OK here are three more. I won't give you a choice of who the characters are, but each is from a different work but are similar archtypes.

1) "Yes, he is rather cocky."

2) "You are very kind, but there must be some mistake. I have not killed anything."

3) "[A]nd what is the use of a book without pictures or conversations."

I am pretty sure 3 is Alice, from "Alice in Wonderland." I have no idea about the others.

After thinking about it, I am wondering if (2) is Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz."

Therefore 1. is Wendy from 'Peter Pan'. See what he's doing there?

You are all correct. Although after posting this I was doing some checking to provide a hint if necessary. I found out that "Peter Pan" was not the first appearance of the title character. I do not know if that is the case for Wendy or not. So she may actually have something different as her first words.

OK, to give 'er a bit of a shove...

First words (sans cover and splash page): "No closer, Legionnaires!"

Second words: "Fools! Did you think hiding in this century would save you?"

Those are Mordru quotes, but not his first. On the same page as "No closer, Legionairres" he has three other word balloons. The first words are, "Free! The sleep-prison is broken! My long unused strength returns!"

A more complete quote:

"What will a man get for killing this Philistine and putting an end to his abuse of Israel? Who is this pagan Philistine anyway, that he is allowed to defy the armies of the living God?"

I'd say King David. Although there is some who would say that he is not a fictional character and thus we will never truly know what his first words truly were. I assume the Aramaic version of "Mama"

Definitely David, as Quislet said.

Saul's first recorded words would have been harder to guess immediately: "Let's go home. By now my fahter will be more worried about us than about the donkeys!"

"Nom, ya ochi!"

Yes, good Quislet, twas David himself. And even fictional charaters have personal histories; thus, even flashbacks would not alter their first words, per se.

The Aramaic for "mama" would be something akin to the Arabic "Oomi".

("Ismi Rumsey, ya ochi. Alhumdulallah!")

OK here is another for KryptonKid.

All are from the same source. Seven different characters. The quotes are in the order in which they appear.

1) "I should have known."

2) "How did you know it was me?"

3) "Nearly"

4) "Mom, geroff!"

5) "Gran, I've lost my toad again."

6) "Has anyone seen a toad? [Character 5]'s lost one."

7) "Ah Yes.[Character 3] our new celebrity"

Sorry, I've been gone for awhile. That pesky Eros finally caught me with his dart. As far as the quotes go, sound's like Carroll ref.
