Before you get too skeptical, this is not an ad. I'm really hoping some of you will read this with an open mind...

The other day I came up with a wonderful idea. Seeing that the sales ranks for the Legion comics of the Post-Reboot variety were in 90's and 100's (Meaning, #1 would be the most sold comic of the month... Legion obviously was not), AND we love the Legion alot, AND everything we've seen from the Waid/Kitson camp so far has been damn good, AND we love the Legion ALOT, I'm starting a street team to basically get people to buy the comics.

Essentially, my ideal vision is making a kick-nass website full of Legion news and dazzle, where folks not knowledgeable about Legion
stuff (or former Legion fans disenfranchised by the Post-Reboot series) can come and fall in love with the new series. So, I need people to help me achieve this goal. Plus, these recruits would be
responsible for telling anyone and everyone (well, comic fans, that is) about the new series and that they WANT TO, nay!, NEED TO BUY
EVERY ISSUE!

Needless to say, this will be non-profit work, but in the long-run, helping this series become successful will only benefit us fans... DC will more likely market a product if the sales are great, so we could be seeing Legion movies, cartoons, memorabilia/collectables, etc, etc.

"Why give up your time to do this, Jason? And why should we help?" Because we love this comic. I know that Legion is important in my life (trust me, I do have a life, but this comic provides me much joy) and I'm pretty sure there's at least a few of you in here that agree. Alot of us were skeptical about the new series when we first
heard about it, but even with just the 7 page preview and teaser art jumping up around us, it's becoming apparent that Mark and Barry are going to deliver the goods (it shows in the descriptions that have been stated so far that they have put alot of love and research into
this), so we should damn well support them.

Thanks a bunch, guys, I love you all.

PS... Although not necessary, it would make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside if one of the big wigs here took this project under their wing (which basically means just giving it a stamp of approval and saying, "Yeah, y'all, join the cause!"

Well, though I know it isn't true, I like to think you won't find a bigger fan of the LEGION concept than me-- Win Mortimer? Love him. Tom & Mary Bierbaum? Love them. Eryk Davis Ester? He's alright. wink

I like the idea of this street team. I'm *SO* hyped on the upcoming Legion, especially after hearing the current creative team at the Legion Panel in Texas.

But seriously, what impact can I make on picking up the new book? I'm pretty much preaching to the choir here on this website... I've given a WaK LSH poster from the Con to my local comic shop...

I'm not sure what else I can do, except for getting extra copies of # 1 for the waiting room at work. (note: the issue of TEEN TITANS GO! # 1 I put out in the waiting room was stolen before the first full day it was placed out... a good sign, I thought).

And those of us "disenfranchised" by this?

I wish your publicity efforts well, as grassroots efforts will certainly help with increasing word-of-mouth response. This may not appear to be my own favorite Legion, but I'd rather it succeed in the marketplace.

I can't take part myself, though, in a Yahoo! Group that does pre-approval of my posts. That was part of my joining your earlier Legion Group (when you removed this policy) and my leaving it shortly afterwards (when you reinstated it). I simply don't see it as being appropriate for vigorous discussion.

I would think that pre-approval of posts has more to do with spam than anything else. Anytime Jason thought a discussion got too far out of hand he simply stated that he thought people were getting off-topic.

It does have more to do -- from what Jason has said -- with preventing spam, although I contend it's not really the appropriate tool.

It's far more effective to use the setting to simply moderate the first post made by a Group member, to ensure that it's not from a spam-bot. After that, genuine human members are left free to post without pre-approval.

To have all messages pre-approved slows down or halts spontaneity in discussions. Messages have to wait to appear until the owner or a moderator happens to check the approval queue. Until such a person logs in at the Groups site, or answers each e-mail about approving a message, discussion stops.

(Some Groups also use pre-approval to "encourage" a particular viewpoint about the subject or to "prevent bashing," but I've seen no sign that Jason wants to do this.)
