All of the quotes are from Mel Brooks' remake of To Be Or Not To Be; most are Mel as Frederick Bronski, actor-manager of the Bronski Theater in Warsaw (IMO Mel's best performance in a film; he can act when he lets someone else direct).
Sondheim was the stage manager of the Bronski Theater; the clowns were being sent in to fill in for the cancelled "Naughty Nazis" sketch.
