With deepest apologies to Lightning Lad (sorry bud it's out . Thanks to kenaustin for the heads up!), here's the cover and solicitation to SUPERGIRL & THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #25! Needless to say...SPOILERS! SUPERGIRL AND THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #25Written by Mark Waid, art by Barry Kitson and Mick Gray, cover by Kitson. A longtime fan-favorite hero has escaped his centuries-long exile from the Phantom Zone and owes a tremendous debt to those who set him free. Too bad it's not the Legion! 32 pages, $2.99, in stores on Dec. 27. I'm sure Scott can locate us a better version of the cover though.

Nice twist to the Mon-el story, another group setting him free. I wonder if it's Tarik's gang or if there are other surprises.
And yeah, Supergirl sure is in Punisher mode.

I don't know. It all just comes off to me as a big "what-if" story. Fun for the fan boards but otherwise.... I expect more from the professionals. Creativity requires working with-in bounds. "Thinking outside the box" is not changing the bounds as the lazy would wish.
Interesting to me would be retelling the established story from a different or additional perspective and being successful, evoking new emotions from the readers.
My hope is that this is just another one of those misleading solicits meant to create talk.

They did that kind of thing in the last reboot. This time they seem to be trying for more originality, and more power to them for it. I have no problem with Mon-El and Supergirl fighting as long as both characters are recognizably themselves, it's sensibly established, and it makes a good story. There's a long history of superheroes fighting each other due to misunderstandings and so on.

Kara: After 1001 years you're the only boy in the DCU i havent gone out with.
Lar: Sorry girl, you're just not my akkkkkkkkk.
Seriously I think he's pissed at her because she's the one that put him in the zone 1000 years ago.

Wow! Fantastic cover Barry!
Additionally to the return of Mon-el, i really like how he and Supergirl look on this cover.
You can really feel their emotions on their face, i think they are done incredibly well. I can really sense the contraction in the muscles from Kara's arms and hands, and the tension in the hands of Mon-el resulting from his pain.
That cover is astonishing Barry, i can feel the tension that comes from it, it's as if it was happening in front of me!
I think this cover will be good on the shelves of the comics-shop, people will notice it.

Seriously I think he's pissed at her because she's the one that put him in the zone 1000 years ago. Well, the cover looks more like she's pissed at him instead of vice versa... One Thousand Years Ago...Superbrittney: You look sorta like my cousin. Let's go [redacted] Lar/Mon/Valor/Power Boy/Jonjacobjingleheimerschmidt: Never in a thousand years. Superbrittney: You dare to turn me down!!! Take a taste of my cousin's Phantom Zone projector!!!

Yay! Mon's back!!!! And I have to say, Barry draws about as great a Mon as I've seen in ages! He looks exactly as he should. Wonderful! I still suspect that he's the Power Boy who will be appearing in various DC titles (Supergirl, Teen Titans, 52, etc) Check out the newest Supergirl solicit & cover. That really looks like Lar in a L.E.G.I.O.N.esq outfit to me.

Neither of which is the case. I just meant that when I saw it, I said to myself, man, that cover looks Silver Age*. *except for, you know, the strangulation.

Hmmm... maybe there will be an even BIGGER twist to this story. Maybe Lar and Lyle will be a new "Brains & Brawn" couple...

Last reboot wasn't done to retell the original stories from a new perspective. It was done to try and fix a mess created elsewhere. They really had no choice but to start somewhere from scratch, be it the beginning or the middle. Why exactly did they start again? After all this time, it still hasn't come across that this is Legion and that there was a reason they needed to be rebooted. If this new boot were really "original" or they were using "more originality" they would be able to use the established story in an original way without changing it's premise. The solicit indicates they are not able. Most junior high students I've had can "change the rules" to make a story but that doesn't take originality. In fact, it's the easiest thing for them to do. Putting it on 30 pages? Well that I grant takes skill, good story or not. Giving new cloths and new voices to company names and pretending something clever has been done? I've no hate for "what ifs" if they're framed in that context. I simply do not see support for the pretense that this is Legion in any sense? If they hated the established characters so much, pick a boot, why didn't they just take the risk of creating an entirely new book with new characters, new setting (or even the same setting as Legion) instead of trying to hook an established fan base into believing this was Legion? In short, can anyone explain to me what they are trying to accomplish here that has anything to do with Legion of Super Heroes? Is there any connection at all other than reused names or is it just another teambook in which the writers were too lazy to create new copyrights?

Why exactly did they start again? After all this time, it still hasn't come across that this is Legion and that there was a reason they needed to be rebooted. They made a change because sales were low on The Legion. As for why they made this specific change, I suspect it was a combination of a) Mark Waid had some ideas he wanted to use, and b) it fit in nicely with other changes DC was planning. I agree that there was nothing about the DnA Legion that demanded rebooting. If this new boot were really "original" or they were using "more originality" they would be able to use the established story in an original way without changing it's premise. I don't intend to be rude but I have no idea what you're talking about. If they were original they'd use the established story and the established premise? That's insane troll logic . If they hated the established characters so much, pick a boot, why didn't they just take the risk of creating an entirely new book with new characters, new setting (or even the same setting as Legion) instead of trying to hook an established fan base into believing this was Legion? Nobody hated the established characters. This is a take on the Legion that makes a great deal of sense in context. It's a version of the Legion that has the courage to take the characters seriously and examine the implications of their existence and roles. If you're too attached to the Legion portrayals of yesterday to accept this, then I feel bad for you, because they're not publishing your comic anymore. They're publishing this one, which may not be for everyone, but there's a lot of good Legion stuff in it.

It's a great cover, Barry. Never thought I'd see the day when Supergirl would be strangling Mon-El.
To my recollection, this is the first time Mon-El's met a Kryptonian other than Superman or Superboy in any continuity.

Because Mon and Kara were members of the LSH together for many many years (in it's original version, during it's run through Adventure, Action and Superboy comics.) The two of them were also together on the team that fought the Anti-Monitor in space during Crisis on Infinite Earths (the battle in which Kara lost her life protecting Superman.) Mon has also met Dev-Em various times (who was originally a Kryptonian, not a Daxamite in the original continuity)

Love it, Barry, and I love the fact you refer to him as MON-EL. Those looking for a justification for the reboot should pause right there. A Silver-Age inspired Mon-El (with hopefully a close connection to the El family) has 10 times the iconic power of the retcon called Valor.
Question: how on Earth would his rescuers get their hands on a PZ projector in the 31st century? One of the objects stolen by Tarik's giant kids, perhaps?

Mon-El also met the Phantom Zone villains while he was in the Phantom Zone. Not to mention Jor-El before Krypton exploded. And I agree completely that more "Silver Age" Mon-El is, the better. Of course, I'd say that about the entire Legion...

Glad you liked the cover! I'm thrilled to hear that this was a consensus decision. Hopefully it means Mon will play a stabilizing/calming influence on these youngsters as soon as he takes his rightful place in the Legion. He is joining isn't he? He'd better be! Persoanlly, I think Kara is strangling him because he hasn't called in over 1000 years. You know how girlfriends/boyfriends get when you don't call.
