for starting the demise of the Legion. With his insistence that Superman being the only Kryptonian and then the whole pocket Universe mess to "fix" it, the seeds of LSH's demise were sown. I do agree that it would be highly implausible for all those Superboy sightings in Smallville being unconnected with Clark Kent, but the stories harken back to a simpler, somewhat more innocent time. <Spoiler Space> S P O I L E R S P A C E Now with the return of Supergirl (Kara Zor-L) in the Superman/Batman series, it seems the whole John Byrne idea of the sole survivor of Krypton is now dead.

SPOILER \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ Haven't gotten my copy yet of the latest issue of S&B. Do they establish that she is Kryptonian? I hope so, but it sure throws a wrench in the "new' continuity, doesn't it?

Then again, no one ever said there wasn't a post-crisis Kara after the universe reboot. *snicker*

I actually kind of preferred the Pocket Universe Superboy to the "Superman when he was a boy" version of things. If the Legion's Kal-El had been an alternate Kal-El all along, it would have added a lot more tension to events, since we wouldn't know what his fate was going to be when he grew up. I don't see why they couldn't have kept the whole distinctive Superboy mythos in place in the Pocket Universe (Lana Lang as Insect Queen, etc.) as well.

Supergirl is Kryptonian and is Kal-el's cousin. Although I had to read someone's translation of Krytonian on the DC message board and I prefer to think of it as a old "wench" in the continuity.

Although I'm pretty much ambivilant to Supergirls return I do echo the sentiment the John Byrne should be to blame.... for anything - Cub, Tinyas third self, DnA's unfulfilled potential, Validus's booties... you name it, JB's to blame!

So if they're bringing back the old Supergirl, what are they going to do with the new Supergirl? Or the old new Supergirl. Didn't they already bring back the old Supergirl in the new Supergirl's book? What happened to her? Is she the same old Supergirl or is she a new old Supergirl? Or an old old Supergirl?
I'm confused.

Hold the fort here... You're telling me that Thunder (from the Legion) was supposed to be an alternate/rebooted version of the original Supergirl? I'd concede that Andromeda (SW6, Reboot, and the Nun) came about to take Kara's place... if that makes her an alternate version of the original, then so be it... but Thunder?

Okay, Thunder might be a stretch, but she's a blond female powerhouse in the Legion which makes her pretty reminiscent of the Girl of Steel in my book.

i have to disagree to iron stomach kid... i'm not sure, but i remember byrne saying that every problem with the lack of a superboy in the post-crisis continuity was created by paul levitz, who didn't like byrne's idea of just replace the old superboy with a young man-of-steel-like version of superman. i think it could have been a good solution, doesn't it? anyway, some of my favourite legion stories were written to solve that continuity problem (i loved, for example, LoSH v4 #5!)
