yeah, I imagine sales are going to take a hit when Waid/Kitson leave and DC was hoping to get someone on the book with a large name like Shooter.
I'm aftraid with the way the industry is that no matter how good Bedard is the book's sales will seriously suffer because many will leave with Waid and people just aren't trying out new books as much, especially if they can't get on with a #1.
Long Live the Legion!

It's definitely sounding like Waid's leaving early and Shooter's backing out has really thrown DC for a loop.
My wild prediction:
At this time next year we will be discussing a Paul Levitz-written Legion book.

Really aside from old Legion Fans how big a name in comics is Shooter these days? He hasn't really done any comics in over 10 years. Before I started reading old LSH the only thing I know I read of his was Secret Wars and it was far from my favorite thing marvel did in the 80s. Given his reputation, I'd say more than a few people would buy the book looking for a trainwreck more than anything.
A big name artist with a capable (but not a superstar writer) probably the best way to get people to try the book. Bedard or McKeever are perfect. Now go tell Marts to poach er I mean get one of those X-Men artists that he used to grow on trees at Marvel.
Its high time the X-Franchise paid the LSHverse back for borrowing Dave Cockrum as he hit his prime.

Funny, no one thought to tell Tony Bedard anything about Shooter. He responded in his forum: http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?p=4626333#post4626333 "I honestly don't know what that Shooter rumor is about. No one at DC has discussed that with me.
What I hope is that if I do a good enough job with my six issues, they'll want to keep me around. It happens all the time. If there's someone better waiting in the wings, I'll understand. But my focus is squarely on telling a good tale in my 6 issues. And some things of consequence do happen in my stint -- it's no mere fill-in."I'm not saying there's no truth to the rumor -- DC was probably in talks with Shooter at some stage - but I suspect there's less here than Johnston would have us believe.

Actually, to me that quote sounds like a spin towards Tony getting more than just 6 issues.
Which I think is great, but it does sound like something "better" (i.e. Shooter) was planned originally and now it's off the table opening up the door for more than just a fill-in shot at the book.
And now everyone is trying to rewrite history in an attempt to save face and pretend that DC is doing what it planned to do all along.

It seems to me it wouldn't be that unusual for TB not to be told, especially if his "fill-in" was a last minute thing once Waid pulled out early, and if things weren't completely set as far as Shooter goes at that point.
Compare Keith Champagne and Gail Simone's apparent ignorance regarding Waid's reboot during their fill-in arcs at the end of last series. I mean... you'd think someone would've told them that...

You might be right, but I'm not unhappy the way it turned out. Some of the "ringers" DC has brought in from the outside have turned out to be major disappointments and there's something about Shooter that, frankly, scares me.
Perhaps now Levitz will relent and write something special for the anniversary.

I wonder if anything has to do at all with the apparent show of enthusiasm for the Legion connections in JSA, which is one of DC's 'darling' books? I mean, maybe someone took notice and now they're considering scrapping their entire plan for the next two years, to possible do something bolder? Dare I think it...? The *real* Legion?
Just one possibility since we're speculating so wildly.
