Who do YOU want to see do the LSH? Think about it. We've read rumors of several possible Legion projects in the near future. Names like George Perez, Jim Shooter and I've even heard Jim Lee express an interest in the doing the Legion. We've seen eye-candy like Alan Davis on covers and in a few issues, Jim Starlin, James Sherman, the DnA era, Keith Giffen practically redesigned the future, Dave Cockrum wowed us, Kurt Swan drew a clean lined 60's vision of the future...and...wow, the list is huge. SO, who would you choose? Not just a one-shot special (as cool as those can be ) but a creative team that can get it together month after month like some of our heroes of the past incarnations of the LSH.

Darwyn Cooke and Eric Wight would be about as cool as you could get, as far as I'm concerned.

For some reason I'm pondering the notion of Roy Thomas and Bill Sienkiewicz.

No "superstars" please. I'd like this book continue to come out on a monthly schedule please.

My 1st choice: Dave Gibbons & Steve Epting (is Epting Marvel-exclusive? Then again, there's so much switching between the big two already...)
My 2nd choice: Tony Bedard (already co-wrote a WaK issue or two) & Paul Pelletier

I dunno...superstars sure bring a lot of attention to a title when they take one over. I know I'd sure like to see a Jim Lee story arc.
Still though, the Legion though is a title where a young artist can really make a name for himself. We've seen that happen repeatedly throughout history.

I feel like Keith Champagne could do something really unique and interesting with the Legion. He just pulls out these stories and I think he's really growing into a superstar writer. Even though I'm sure he's under contract with Marvel, I'm a big Salvador Larocca fan. He does really interesting visuals and the evolution of his style really has me fangirling. EDIT: And!! At NYCC today Champagne named the Legion as his number one "character" that he hasn't gotten to work with yet!! Clearly, I am a mind-reader. *crosses fingers*

Clearly, I am a mind-reader. *crosses fingers*I read that too and found it really odd since he did write an issue of Legion just before the Three-boot. Was that a hint? Or does he consider this version of the Legion to be entirely different characters? Or does he have amnesia?

My bet would be on Champagne to actually get the gig.
I can't think of too many writers who would actually do the Legion justice. Maybe Cooke, maybe Johns, maybe Gibbons, maybe Busiek, just because they demonstrate an affinity for big, complex groups and treat the past as a source of stories.
More I think about it, the more I think Busiek would be interesting. Does he have any interest in the Legion?
I think artists are even tougher. You need someone who thrives on complexity, rather than burns out from it. I'll probably get trounced, but the Legion just seems a natural for someone with a Timm/Cooke/Sale art style, so someone from the kiddie books (I can never remember their names)?
...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

We've seen that happen repeatedly throughout history. maybe, but it seems to me people only like superstars when they are writing an already popular book. if Jim Lee, or Morrison or any other big name took over it would boost numbers a month or two and then fall. it seems to me the Legion will probably get benefit from being placed more into the DCU. which is why I think Brainy will develop time travel within six months. as for who I would like to see on the book how about Perez and Champagne.

With the rate Jim Lee is producing pages these days we'd be lucky to get four issues a year. Throw in Frank Miller and that might be the worst creatve matchup for LSH ever. Champagne is a good if unspectacular choice. Bedard would be a good choice too. But It hit me this morning, I want Sean McKeever (Spider-Man loes Mary Jane) to be the writer. Talk about out of left field.

With the number of Hollywood and Novel writers getting into the comics writing game, it might be interesting to see some Sci-Fi writer get the job.

I wouldn't want this guy to get the gig, given his track record with getting issues out on time, but Allan Heinberg is a LSH fan.
Folks like Phil Jimenez and Kurt Busiek have said they'd like to work on the Legion, but only the 'original' version.
On art, I'd like to see a 'big' name-- as long as they can get the book out in a timely manner. Early in the DNA/Coipel series, there was supposed to be a regular 'substitute' artist to give Olivier a break (Mike McKone, was it?). That didn't really pan out, I don't think. But it's a good idea. That's where I'd like to see the 'untried' talent introduced and nurtured. The reverse is possible, with the 'name' doing fewer issues than the 'untried'.
Remember, 2008 will be the team's anniversary year-- I'm betting we'll get to see a variety of artists, at least, work on some form of the Legion or other.
Though I'd sort of dread what might happen to some of the characters, I would like to see what Grant Morrison's take on the concept would be like.
But as a regular writer? I think someone should be hired with a longterm 'mission' in mind. Someone that can weave subplots in and out, and not focus so heavily on two or three characters. They should be able to convincingly write sci-fi *and* fantasy concepts, sometimes together. I think we can all agree on that.
I don't know who fills that bill.
Whoever it is, they'll have a tough assignment, with a somewhat fractured fandom to woo.
Maybe a writing team? Wouldn't 2008 be a great year for LSH Weekly done in the manner of 52? Maybe across two or more 'realities'?

There's a lot of great talent out there, and I'd love for someone with no prior Legion experience with an honest love for its history to come in.
I'd kill, of course, for a Jim Lee or George Perez Legion, but I won't take a creative team that is continually late. As far as I'm concerned that's absolute crap.
So my choices? Hm...I'd say probably Darwyn Cooke could be the greatest thing ever, but if that isn't possible, I'd like Grant Morrison and Phil Jimenez. And George could do a fill-in two or three times a year.
People I'd hate on the Legion: Warren Ellis, Kevin Smith. However, I actually think Mark Millar doing the Legion could be nothing short of spectacular.

Busiek, wow. Can you imagine Kurt doind a multi-generational tale like he's doing with Astro City?
And I only mentioned Kevin Smith in the wake of the 'Hollywood writers jumping on the bandwagon' comment. I got a momentary chuckle imagining KS dialogue on the old Timberwolf/Karate Kid dynamic.

There's a guy on the Comic Book Resources forums who seems to think it's going to be Jim Shooter. I have no idea where he gets this, and in fact he doesn't say that he's sure anyway. So we need more than just the one grain of salt here.

There's a lot of Shooter rumors going around.
I would've thought they would've announced it by now if this were the case, however.

I would really like to see some quite young sci-fi writer on the book - no name in particular - because I don't really think the past can be recreated (what some people seem to hope for with the Shooter rumour) and would be interested to read what someone outside of the superhero comic tradition would do with the team. That would probably alienate even more readers, however.

I think it would be interesting to see what someone in the postcyberpunk genre (which kind of seems vaguaely in touch with Waid's approach to the series) would do with it. Not that I really know anything about the postcyberpunk genre...
