Newsarama: Gail\'s interview

She just said a few things that one may take as clues that she may be doing the Legion. It certainly makes you say, hmmm?

But the truth of this matter is, I was simply offered a project I couldn't turn down. A dream book with a dream art team, and a real chance to reshape comics’ history. DC's always been great to me, but this is just...insane. It's unbelievably exciting.

GS: It was short notice, but completely an honor and a delight. It wasn't something pushed at me. On my recent visit to New York, Dan [Didio] asked me into his office and made the proposal, and my eyes just bugged out of my skull. I couldn't turn it down. It's something that almost feels like destiny, as goofy as that sounds, like something I've been working towards my entire career as a writer.
Reshape comic history? Levitz Legion returns? Her Legion arc did remind me of the Levitz Legion but that was Jurgens' deciption of the characters. Still makes you wonder doesn't it? smile

She also said this new book is going to take lots of her time and focus so she had to drop BOP.

Legion is a book that would do that as well.

I wouldn't mind seeing Simone on the Legion but I don't think her previous stint was perceived as that much of a success. And since she did have a previous stint, I can't see how everyone would get so excited about another one. So my guesses are:

-Wonder Woman
-Supergirl
-Justice League

She's said that she'll be taking over a prominent female character's book. It's really looking like Wonder Woman.

I agree with EDE, Gail is going to Wonder Women.

I don't know who should take over or if they will reboot the Legion again with up is going on on in the JSA/JLA crossover.

How about Busiek taking over?

I wouldn't mind Simone on LSH at all. She brought back both Infectious Lass and Nightwind in her short previous arc.

Also, her BoP has been lots of fun and the current WELCOME TO TRANQUILITY has, in a scant 5 issues, entered my personal top 5 monthlies.

Hmmm... maybe Gail's on the Infectious Lass monthly spinning out of TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED? laugh

Whew! I thought her Legion arc was AWFUL. What a relief that this rumor is not true.

Gail DID do something fairly rare in Legion writers though. She created a new group of Legion villians. I wouldn't mind seeing someone else's take on them sometime.

I touched on Simone's arc in one of my 'The Legionnaires:' articles here , for those of you who haven't seen it.

I think Gail wrote a great arc -- it would have gone perfectly in the Levitz run, pre-Baxter. I really enjoyed it, especially because there was a Legion and an Earth left when it was over -- except that the book was cancelled. I liked it a lot better than much of DnA's run.

I thought Gail's arc was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise disappointing series. It was far from the greatest Legion story ever, but it was a good if rather pointless fill-in. And I actually did like the villains quite a bit.

Those villains used 20th century code names before these 3boot kids got the idea! I'd like to see them again. And why haven't we had some 31st century bad kids take villain code names and campy costumes like The Penguin or The Joker wore?

I liked Gail's arc. I didn't read the Legion before this (except that time they crossed over with Superboy *Kon-el*) but I liked Gail and had enjoyed the Legion in that appearance so picked it up and really loved it. I liked the way they rose to the occasion and inspired people, I also loved Karate Kid! he was so cool against those prisoners.

However, I do think it was an awful way to end the series, it was a fill-in arc (a good one IMO but still) and it didn't tie up any lose ends. In fact, after her arc I probably would have continued to pick up Legion, but there was no more until the 3boot and that arc just kinda sits in my long boxes collecting dust.

I really liked the "feel" of Gail's arc, even if I didn't much care for the actual plot. (if that makes any sense...)

Given the clues we have so far, it looks like her new book will be either Wonder Woman or Supergirl.

I'm hoping for WW.
