Thanks Ram, Cramer and Kent. I really do think I am ready for this. I've never doubted by ability to handle it emotionally. Abuse and neglect are what they are, are fairly easy to identify, and somebody needs to step in. My hesitation has always been a frustration with the remedies (or lack thereof) and a lack of confidence in the foster care system. I think I finally have enough experience with the courts, diversion programs, inmate re-entry, substance abuse, etc. that I can do a good job of navigating the system. I used to think that persistance was the key and spent a lot of time banging my head against brick walls. I've finally figured out it works better to back up, and find away around the wall!

I'm back in UK for 3 weeks - spent a week in London catching up with the old crowd - very drunken, missed several exibitions I was dying to see and generally got rained on a lot, now back in Aberdeen for two weeks, am away tomorrow until Friday hillwalking with a couple of friends - it's a passion of mine to get out of towns and cities and see the land and countryside, take my sketchbook and relax! Then I've got one of my oldest friends weddings on saturday and I still haven't bought him a present not usually being one for leaving things til the last moment it's starting to panic me, I took a wander into town today and couldn't find him anything he wanted on his wedding list that was under 100 quid! Hey he's an old chum and all that but 100 quid is a lot of cash for me right now. Oh well, am sure that something will pop up. Maybe I'll just frame up a few of the photos I have from when we were kids and give him them. The week after Pete's wedding I have loads of family to visit throughout the country so won't be spending two nights in the same bed (just like my good old days then ).

Blinkin' heck, after perhaps the most boring six months of my life I'm suddenly really busy!

A singer/one-man-band/roadie, with amps, mike, speaker set, guitar and banjo and photos of the kids, gave three backpackers a hitch from Ullapool to Inverness (and me to Loch Ness) on his way to Edinburgh in a tiny Datson, riding barely above the tires.

Helluva guy and an entertaining singer.

Works the circuit mostly around Edinburgh but I believe gets up to Aberdeen on occasion.

Hope he's doing well.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the good wishes while I was gone.

RL, unfortunately I never got to the library.

I went way off my diet and exercise regimen during those two weeks. I guess that sort of thing usually happens on vacations, but now I have to be extra strict about it, especially since I have a doctor's appointment next week.

The big thing in my life right now is pie. I'm eating it and enjoying it. It makes it easier to face the day. It also makes me tingly inside.

And what type of pie are you eating? Home-made or store bought?

Store bought.

I really can not cook- there's some ugly stories out there.

I guess I am spoiled by the pies my mother used to make and my father still makes. He even has his own apple tree.

Still what type of pie was it? Apple, blueberry, squash?

Count me in as a lover of pie and enemy of cake. When I was in Key West three months ago, I had key lime pie literally every day. Like Ceej, though, I'm unable to create edible food and therefore must purchase pre-made kinds.

Cake and pie are not enemies. Both provide tasty sweetness.

Any enemy of cake is an enemy of mine.

Sounds like the title of a Bits story "The Lad Boy/Cobalt Kid Cake War!" I am picturing the Earth-Kyrpton War that divided the Legion that one time.

Leaving for Seattle tomorrow and Alaska on Sunday! It's so nice to have a vacation before I'm back for more summer school...

back in Plattsburgh to work till Thursday. Then home for a week. Then off to Newfoundland! Should have my laptop back in working order by early Sept.

Hopefully Kent is up and running too! I'm interested in the much-awaited Kent/Dedman team-up too.

PS - I'm pretty sure Kent has a cool Abin/Cobie Office of Security Pic on his laptop also (if he has the same laptop )

Just got done with finals! Now to go on a posting spree.

But so tired... I'll just close my eyes a bit...
