Charles II of England spent part of his time in exile during the period of the Commonwealth of England in the Netherlands and became keen on sailing. He returned to England in 1660 aboard a Dutch yacht. During his reign Charles commissioned 24 Royal Yachts on top of the two presented to him by Dutch states on his restoration.

The square of the length of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the length of the other two sides.

Contrary to legend and popular belief, Dom Perignon did not invent sparkling wine. The oldest recorded sparkling wine is Blanquette de Limoux, which was apparently invented by Benedictine Monks in the Abbey of Saint Hilaire near Carcassonne in 1531.

Mice are a staple in the diet of many small carnivores. Humans have eaten mice since prehistoric times and still eat them as a delicacy throughout eastern Zambia and northern Malawi, where they are a seasonal source of protein.

Spacecraft must be engineered to withstand transit through the Earth's atmosphere and the space environment. They must operate in a vacuum with temperatures potentially ranging across hundreds of degrees Celsius as well as (if subject to reentry) in the presence of plasmas.

The most widely distributed single issue of a magazine is illegal to own in most places. The magazine in question is a 1984 issue of Penthouse magazine that was wildly popular because it contained a scandalous, yet beautiful, photo spread of then Miss America, Vanessa Williams. The issue also contained nude photos of porn actress Traci Lords. It was later revealed that Lords was not yet eighteen while performing some of her early porn work (including the Penthouse photos). Most buyers did not intend to purchase child pornography, but are guilty of possession, none the less, if they still own the issue
Beauty's where you find it. Not just where you bump and grind it.

The first permanent structure designed for screening of movies in the state of California was Tally's Electric Theater, completed in 1902 in Los Angeles. Tally's theater was a storefront within a larger building, but apparently purpose-built as a movie theater.

A fully-grown Smilodon (sabre-toothed cat) weighed approximately 55 to 470 kg (120 to 1,000 lb), depending on species. It had a short tail, powerful legs, muscular neck and long canines. Smilodon was more robustly built than any modern cat, comparable to a bear.

So I finally got around to downloading some pictures from my camera to my computer. Among them were ones I took at the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear from 2010. Among the signs there was this one Yup that it the Sinestro Fear Lantern symbol.
Big Dog! Big Dog! Bow Wow Wow!

This has been the most stressful week I can recall having in quite some time. Also, it's finally gotten Summer-level hot here in the past three weeks. I could seriously have done without that. Small wonder I'm not in bed asleep even though I should be.

The Ostrich is farmed around the world, particularly for its feathers, which are decorative and are also used as feather dusters. Its skin is used for leather products and its meat marketed commercially.

In many traditional accounts, ghosts were often thought to be deceased people looking for vengeance, or imprisoned on earth for bad things they did during life.
