I just realized, in the origin story, Cosmic Boy remarks that on Braal a person is considered an adult at 14. This corresponds to the Jewish rite of Bar & Bat Mitzvah. I would say that all of Braal is Jewish.

Hmm... come up with an explanation of why a planet of Jewish people wouldn't be allowed to use their magnetic powers on a certain day of the year, and I'm all for it!

Perhaps it's an adaptation of Yom Kippur, with not using their magnetic powers taking the place of fasting as atonement.

The Orthodox Brallians don't use their magnetic powers on every Sabbath.

BTW, to all the Gentiles on these boards, the word, "Jew" is not a slur. We call ourselves Jews all the time and really don't mind when you guys do it. It's only when it's prefaced with a derogatory adjective (dirty, cheap, etc.) that the phrase becomes a slur.

It was in one of the minis that his heritage was touched on. I believe that it turned out that *Krinn* was originally *Krinnski.* he is of Polish Descent. I always thought his brother's name being *Pol* was a hint.

I also never understood anti-semitism by Christians. After all Jesus was a Jew, Mary his mother was a Jew, and his father, aka God aka Yahweh aka Jehovah, is the god of the Jews. Just goes to show that prejudice is not logical.

I never thought it was. I find it terribly sad that anyone would ever have to explain that. It's just like Liberal is not a swear word and Conservative is not a synonym for redneck.

'Anti-Semitism' isn't even a very useful term, since pretty much the entire population of the Middle East, the vast majority of which are Arabic and / or Moslems, are of Semetic stock. For someone to be an 'anti-Semite,' one would have to be prejudiced against Jews *and* Arabs (and Coptic Christians, and various other dark-skinned middle eastern people, regardless of their beliefs). The Biblical 'Shem' was ancestor to Arabs, Aramaeans, Assyrians, Babylonians, Chaldeans, Sabaeans and, yeah, Hebrews as well, making all of them not just 'technically,' but also Biblically, 'Semites.'

This has been Set, with another pedantic complaint about improper use of language. Yet another thing to hate about bigots, their poor language skills!

But as to the main topic, Cosmic Boy, in my head, is at least part Asian.

I'm not sure I can take the Polish idea seriously, considering that he's gone by the codename Polestar. It just sounds funny, a Polish superhero calling himself 'Polestar.' (Then again, a Native American hero calling himself Apache Chief also comes to mind...)

Statistically speaking, somebody should be. China is the most populous nation on Earth, isn't it ? I've never gotten why we don't see more Asians in various and sundry pop-culture futures. I seem to recall that even Serenity had a genuine backstory where China has either tied or superseded the U.S. as a colonial power, and there still were not lead characters who were even part-Asian. Which confused/irritated me quite a bit.

True. So the Legion has a better batting average than the Firefly-verse, at least. I wonder if either character is going to end up in the next incarnation...
