Spark was... well, cutesy. But Ayla was so cute it worked. My "hate name" (love that term - have to start using it) was Live Wire. There is no way a real person would call himself that.
I once asked my brother (not a Legion fan) which of the 90s names were the worst. He gave Apparition and Leviathan, with an interesting reason. They were just as generic as the names they replaced. He said, and I quote: "There's a phantom girl!" "There's an apparition!" "There's a colossal boy!" "There's a leviathan!"

I hated Apparition and Leviathan. Too long and tongue twisty. Same with Alchemist. They don't flow off the tongue very quickly or naturally. If someone had to yell, "Apparition, look out!" she'd be dead before they could spit her name out.
Not that Princess Projectra or Matter Eater Lad were any better. Back in Adv. 359, Projectra might have been able to duck that club if it didn't take so long to say, "Princess Projectra, look out!"
I liked Spark. Umbra was okay, but I missed being able to call her Shady. I hated the name Valor. I missed calling him Mon too.

LOL, that's true! Good thing that shortly thereafter the Legionnaires started calling the Princess "Jeckie". It was quicker and avoided subsequent bumps on the noggin (for the most part).

Question: If in the end of episode 36, Sun Boy is with all his Legion's pal. I think he come back to The Legion. Why Shooter forgot all this....and the Wildfire and Tenzil subplots?

I think Shooter just wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to what Bedard was up to.

So, re-reading this and micro-examining the artwork and expressions during the tryouts for the bazillionth time (it never gets old for me!), I'm amused to see that when Sun Boy shows up, Colossal Boy gets up in his enthusiasm and has a hand resting on Brainiac Five's shoulder.
Brainy, characteristically, is looking at the unwelcome hand on his shoulder like it's a dead, smelly rodent...

It was Wilt or Screamin' Jay Hawkins, depending on which Earth you're visiting.

Ooh, well done, how could I forget about the guy it was said to have fathered at least 75 children? Are any of Hawkins' kids in the music biz a'la Bob Marley's numerous offspring? SJH had a really beautiful voice, surely some of his talent had to have been given to some of his kids.
So what.

Y'know, I'm not sure. But I think you've just accidentally created a perfect retcon for Tyroc-- just cross it with the old Doonesbury strip where a whole town/island was settled by Wilt's offspring. Well done. Somebody around here must play golf with Didio. They can put in a good word for you.

All right, I just finished reading issue #47 and 48. I'm going to offer my thoughts on them.
1. Princess Projectra keeps insisting Phantom Girl read the comic, over and over and now she wants her to change the stories ending.
2. The story is about a king who's subjects were all killed and he plans on restoring them.
3. The creatures from the invader world are using data rippers to duplicate beings, buildings, etc.
4. If Brainiac 5 is correct, the invader world delgates are avatars as opposed to living creatures. Avatars which are created by a computer. Everything is coming from a master computer.
5. Brainiac 5 states that time travel is not yet possible in issue #47.
6. They tell us how Brainic 5 selected his name.
7. The invader planet appeared out of nowhere, Brainiac 5 suggests that it doesn't exist in the physical world. I'm thinking it comes from another time, as does the villain.
8. The comic of Phantom Girl shows a particular individual on the cover who was reknown for shrinking cities (similar to the idea of copying images and repopulating subjects).
9. The villain always made extensive uses of robots (in this case computer generated avatars).
10. The villain is Brainiac. Look at the comic Phantom Girls been reading (or Pulsar Stargrave if you wish). His subjects were computers which were defeated by the Coluns, just as in the comic, the king's subjects were killed.
On a side note and just a feeling on these......
11. M'Rissy suggested and set up the tryouts.
12. Gazelle happened to get in.
13. I think the two are working together to undermine the Legion, most likely spies initiated by the villain.
14. And I'm thinking Projectra, isn't the real Princess Projectra at all. The idea that she is so intrested in the comic and wants the ending changed, it too much.

Wow - I really like your reasoning on all this PG. Well done. Nothing would be cooler for me than to have Pulsar Stargrave appear for the final issue!
I don't think either M'Rssy or Gazelle are spies, however. They seem to me to be genuine Shooter additions to this Legion, and now there's too little time left to resolve a traitor/spy subplot.

An interesting theory, but I don't think it will pan out.
First of all, I think we've gone to the well once too often on the "Modern Villain in Legion Times" story, and it's off the table for the foreseeable future for a much needed rest.
Secondly, with Brainiac playing such a huge role in the Superman books right now, I highly doubt the Superman team would allow him to be used elsewhere in the DCU at the same time.

Plus, I think we are running out of time to tie up all of the loose ends that you're suggesting, Phant.
So what.

I most definitely think a Braniac or Pulsar plan is logical, reasonable and most definitely interesting but unfortunately, it will be a reveal followed by a one panel defeat, given the time left for the story.
Count me as another though that thinks M'rissey and Giselle are legit. Giselle may harbor feelings against UP but I think (hope) she's resolved her feelings against legion.

Perhaps, but doesn't anyone else think its odd that when they show Phantom Girl's comic it clearly shows Brainiac on the cover? My previous post isn't to suggest a lot more needs to happen but rather what has happened so far is showing a pattern. Also keep in mind that originally Mr. Shooter had up to issue #52 and it was scaled down by 2 issues (Correct?) Now certainly he'd have to trim the fat off the story to make it comply to the lesser page count but there is only so much than can get changed. I very well may be wrong and if I am, so be it. If I'm right I think you all should pitch in and buy me something really nice.

Braniac on the cover is not a throw away, I'd bet you're right. Shooter doesn't seem to do things by mistake. Most of your scenario makes sense to me, I was only pointing out what you reiterated, that the story will get short shifted but I should have added, no matter who or what the villain. There will be a reveal and a quick resolution. DC didn't leave much time for a tactical battle.
If you're right, we'll all chip in and buy you a gallon of gas.

Response from Francis Manapul would have to be ....buy the book, read the book
Surely?

PG I like your theory too, however I am almost 100% certain Mrissey is not a plant or traitor for one simple reason...
He was created by Shooter as an honor/homage to a Legion fan. A long time Legion fan that passed away. I just don't see Shooter making that kind of character into a Villain.

Hey guys, I just got a response from Francis Manapul:
Hey,
yup the comic apparently does have significance to the current situation Princess Projectra is in. I' haven't read that book personally but thats what Jim tells me... hence the Princess' interest in the book. I think the situation in the comic Phantom girl is reading projectra finds that she relates to it. hope that helps.

Thanks so much Arm Fall off Boy, perhaps we shall have to turn you loose on the villain when the time comes. After all, you have a deadly weapon. Sounds pretty open ended though, other than having significance, so I'd say the jury is still out. Cross fingers because I want to be right.
