If Gim Allon can take Lalo Muldroon's codename in the reboot, why not reimagine Karate Kid as Mano?

They'll all be changing their name to Cancelled Kid by issue 24 anyway...

they all have to have 'boy/girl/lass/lad' code names apparently (the logic is, i'd hazard, that they'll be able to tell the villains by their lack of said code-names -- "oh, Persuader, eh? obviously a villain", etc.)
Karate Kid therefore probably remains Karate Kid (as "Fist Lad" was too close to "Fister Lad", a character I created when I... Um, forget it, I just have the name, ok? And Tyr makes a much better Fister Lad any day of the future!)
but does this rule qualify... Kid Quantum for Reboot Boy/Rebooted Girl? Chemical King as Stoned Boy (not to be confused, of course, with Stone Boy)? Tyroc as Black Canary - oops! - I mean, Choir Boy? Ron-Karr as Spy Boy? (Paper-Cut Lad didn't focus group well) Mentalla as ESPer Lass? Porcupine Pete as Nemesis Kid (indicating his unlucky love life)? Lamprey as Aqua Girl? Dawnstar as Hawk Girl?

In the "Your dream Legion team" thread, I imagined Val Armorr being Hispanic in heritage and, from his having mastered all kinds of hands-on combat, taking "Mano" as a codename.
I also had some other borrowings from other (comics-company) universes, such as Brek being what worked better all along, "Iceman." If DC and Marvel ended up with a Capt. Marvel each, why couldn't that have been worked out? We can dream, anyway.
If it's a reboot, now is the time to shuffle the name deck a bit. Why waste the opportunity?
I still don't buy Waid's rationale for "Kid," "Boy," etc., though, not after a couple more weeks of mulling it over. It strikes me as too much of a creator rationalizing what he liked in his youth. Which isn't disastrous, but can easily be overdone -- see Tom and Mary "none but the Adventure characters will stick around" Bierbaum.
