Cos's interest in history goes back to the Adventure era, and was particularly emphasized during Levitz's run on the book. The stargates are not operational. The Sci Cops are in the midst of dismantling the gate in question here. Unless I'm mistaken, M'Onel tackled some Warp Phantoms in the earlier issues of the series, so this is an ongoing theme.

More: - "Fire Legion": cute - Is it normal for transuits not to show any evidence (like the white armband) any more or was this a glitch in TnT's section? I forget. - Does the last panel of the first page of TnT pt 2 look like Brainy's neck's been snapped without him noticing? You do NOT get heads to that angle naturally - I see Tinya's going in for the same appearing/disappearing waist logo as Triad [the logos on the "The sci-cops found him when they opened the gate" look especially out of place - Tinya's belt should be at a similar angle to her touchstone, Cos' should be centred, and they all (flight ring inc.) look stuck in at the last moment - which may explain why KQ2 & B5 have blank ovals where the logos should be a page earlier, and KQ2 ). C'mon guys - careless @ best [In fact, except on B5's yellow belt, none of the L* logos on the belts & flight ring really look right throughout this whole sequence(s), as if they were a last-minute addition. And the flight ring is singular becuase, apart from the panel with KQ2 talking into hers, you forgot them on every. single. panel.] - All that said, and despite my loathing of that "costume", the money shot with Kon revealed was absolutely perfect. Then again, there were no L* logos to mess up or forget that time - Eric W's art was basic. I guess it was meant to be, but at a quick count, 11/20 of his panels have no background at all - Did Imra know that was Garth on the third-from-last page before he said it d'ya think, or was she just shocked at seeing Jan again with the "Oh my grife"? Yet more to follow...

Still, it only says "ongoing" - no indication here of when it started

I don't like the Garth in Jan's body gig. Reminds me too much of the Reflecto debacle with Superboy stuck in Ultra Boy's body. Or was it the other way around?
I sort of wish Garth wasn't back already. I'd like to see Mekt replace him for a while, though since we already have Spark I guess we don't really need him.
Hated a lot of the artwork. Sorry, Dave but this is nowhere near as good as your old Legion stuff. I'll blame it on the inker though, since you're a GOD in the art dept. imo.
Loved Battista's work though.
Interesting that we're getting both Superboys after all the speculation on which one it would be...
I too am getting sick of looking at Kid Q, Brainy, Saturn Girl, Cos, Shikari, and Apparition in every issue. Let's see more of the rest of the team already!

Remarkable the difference an inker can make.
I remember LOVING Cockrum's first run on X-Men, then being so excited to have him back - until I saw the actual books. I never cared for his 2nd run, and can only conclude it was the inker that made the difference.

I have to agree that the Cockrum/Milgrom pages were probably my least favorite in the book, art AND storywise. Just wasn't as compelling as most of the other things going on.
White. A blank page or canvas. His favorite. So... many... possibilities.

Well, it was so popular when they gave it to Wildfire, I'm surprised all the Legionnaires aren't using it!

A robot with a personality -- one who names himself after a human inventor and retorts in Spock-like almost-too-logical fashion -- or maybe I'm wanting to like Babbage too much.

Re: Cockrum/Milgrom.
I didn't even recognize Dave's art until I checked the credits after I read the issue. I agree that Milgrom isn't the best inker Dave could have.
What bothered me more, though was an apparent continuity glitch. The Spark panels on Page 17 make it seem as if she's showing him around Legion World, while the dialogue on pages 13 and 19 makes it clear they haven't gone anywhere.
And I, too, think it's just Mekt's faulty recollection of the Korbal incident that causes him to take credit for the idea of gathering the lightning beasts.

It would be in keeping with tradtion if Retro falls into the same category.

I loved this issue, and I'm really glad I've been trying to avoid spoilers. The plot has so many great twists and turns so far, I actually didn't notice until I was finished that Lyle, Gates, and Tasmia weren't in it. I most certainly noticed that Vi only got one little panel and Brin didn't even get that much, though. The Garth/Jan thing doesn't bother me yet, but I'm not as big a fan as some others around here. This could lead to some great character development for Garth, and at least they've done a lot to restore Jan's heroic repitation. I am so glad we only have to wait two weeks for the next part.

Me neither -- I didn't recognize the art until someone asked me about Cockrum's art in the issue, and I was like, "Where?" But I might have just been a bit out of it, what with all the changes in artwork throughout the issue. I liked all of the art well enough, but I found the number of different styles to be a bit of a distraction.

Those scenes are just part of the flashbacks that Mekt is having. The panels correspond to his thoughts about having been allowed to visit Legion World, just as all the other panels correspond to his stream of thoughts.

[/b]I suppose you're right -- though it seems odd that he would flash back to a few minutes or hours ago in the midst of a reverie about his life.

It WAS clunky there. I too was wondering why they were showing panels of Makt and Spark hand in hand hopping around Legion World during the midst of the flashback. That it corresponds to Mekt's stream-of-consciousness at the time makes sense, but it was still clunky.

That's an interesting take -- one I hadn't considered but it's hard to tell with a robot that has no facial expressions. From the rest of the dialogue I don't think that that's how DnA meant it, but I like your idea that he's not willing to just put up with prejudice or to change people's minds through earnestness and good will -- why can't a robot be an "angry minority"?

If all of the DnA issues had this much going on, I'd have never complained.
THIS is the Legion, baby! Foreshadowing! Action! Multiple plots! Romance! Good to great art! And more coming in two weeks!
Seriously, I think this is my favorite issue in a long time. I'm really interested in the Superboy angle set up by the framing sequences (which really reminded me of Smallville, the TV series) and have high hopes. Is that Clark the Clark that grows up into Superman? Pocket Universe Clark? Hypertime Clark? Frankly, I don't give a damn if it means Superboy in the Legion. Cloneboy in the 31st? All right, I'm at least interested. Garth in Jan's body? Better wrap it up quick, boys, because we've been there, done that, didn't like it much the first twelve times. I will wait to see what's going to happen. Jazmine and Rokk? I like it. Rokk needs an assertive woman. It may not last, but it has possibilities. Darkseid? Again, I'll wait, but again, we've been there, done that. If it's original, I don't mind reusing a major league villain--but I hope it's original. Mekt? Looks like he's being set up to provide a host body for Garth, but we've been hoodwinked before.
The only consistent feature of all of your dissatisfying relationships is you.
Don't judge me!

Information overload! However, I am very happy with the storyline overall. Thanks for remembering Jan as the hero he was.
The Jan/Garth merging will be interesting. I know it's a good plot twist, but I still have issues on the resurrection idea. I know both characters are popular so I hope the end result justify their returns.
Artwork comments? Loved it all, no major criticism, waiting with baited breath for the next issue.
