Hi Scott. Hope I don't come of as a dope but, coming from a family of diabetics, I can relate. If at all possible just drop the soft drinks all together (High fructose corn syrup SUCKS). Also cutting fast (meaning fried) food out of you're diet (assuming you even eat it) will cause a lot of the weight to just melt off. And exercise may sound like a drag. But once you find the sport or workout routine that fits you, it becomes a blast.

Stay positive and I hope your next birthday is a lot less doctory.

That's pretty much in the "not-good" category.

Sounds at least as if you are FEELing well?

Challenge it like you do your work and this site, you'll beat it back better than anyone, I've no doubt. All my best.

Maybe I'll buy me some walking shoes too.

I want to be wating at the top of those convention stairs next year and seeing you running up them wink

Scott-

I'm sorry to hear about this, but at least it has been detected at a stage where you can do something about it - AND you have the will to do so. Good for you! We're behind you 1,000 percent.

Plus, no excuses for missing SD '08! wink

Man, I've been struggling to find the right words, but I feel like a shmuck for not posting already. You're one of my favorite people I haven't had the good fortune to meet face-to-face yet. You're so generous... both with your time and abilities here, and in the RW. (Daughtry still rawks! wink ) I want you around for a long time, bud. Take care of yourself, and tell work to cut you a break-- doctor's orders! wink hug

I'm sorry to hear the news, Scott.

But I'm glad to hear that it was caught early, and I have no doubt you'll get it under control.

Every birthday over 40 is a "best." I hope we're all here posting well into our 80's.

Diet and exercise changes are pretty demanding, but it sounds like you've got good motivation. And I know you have lots of support.

Since Easter I've given up about 1000 calories a day -- mostly in the form of high fructose corn syrup sweetened drinks. I could lick the paint off a coke machine right now, but I'm 15 pounds lighter and my diastolic pressure is back in the 60's.

So...umm...Happy Birthday, Scott! < raises a glass of V-8 in a celebratory toast > Umm-mmmm these celery sticks are delicious.

Well that's not so nice to hear about your health Scott. I am happy to hear that you're ready to get on top of it. It's not too late to get back to where you can have so many more great years in the second half of your life.

Scott,

All the best, man. You have a lot of people here who care about you and support you. Some of us are going through the same thing.

I have an aunt who went undiagnosed for too long for diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. I can't even begin to describe what has happened to her. You are fortunate to learn this stuff now. It may not feel like it now, but it is an incredible blessing and gift to have the chance to change this before it's too late.

The good news is, Diet Dr. Pepper is THE best diet soda out there! I know. I don't let myself drink the real thing anymore, either. I hope you find that as you adjust your diet, become a little more active, etc., your blood pressure starts to moderate too. It's been a viscious cycle up to now (one I know too well), but you can make it a virtuous cycle going forward.

Take good care.

Scott! Sorry to hear your birthday was not as awesome as it shoulda been, but when someone's as awesome as you, something less than awesome is bound to pop up here and there. Look for something belated traveling to Utah from California.

Kev, anything from you is bound to perk me up. Thanks!

And thanks to everyone else, again, for all your support. I'm actually getting along okay right now. Stopped the diabetes meds because of an interaction (plus the fact they got some bad press recently) and I'm actually losing weight for the first time in a long time.

Glad to hear about the weight loss Scooter!

To keep you cheered up, I can officially inform you that I've read the first Walking Dead trade and liked it so much that I'll be buying the second one shortly! Thanks for sending it over! Mission acccomplished methinks, as I may just be a fan for life now laugh

And losing weight will always get a little bit easier as you go, despite any setbacks--best of luck!

Incentive for weight loss No. 26: I spent the weekend walking around in a wet suit at the beach with my neighbors. They all thought I was turning blue because of the cold water, but really it was because I wasn't inhaling.
