Hey, this isn't the one word thread redux!

You want to kill this thread, you'll have to work for it.

No, you don't want to work for it? No, you don't want to kill the thread? No, you won't have to work to kill the thread?

This is just an example of how far this board has fallen in terms of thread-killing.

I'd post one of those 4,000,000,000 word Tolstoy novellas, but then again LMB is such a high-class joint. I'm sure that you've all read them several times anyway.

I took two Russian lit classes in college. It was a wonderful experience. The second one was just about Dostoevsky. We read two books in the whole course, Crime and Punishment and The Brothers Karmazov. I don't think I could read such a huge work now, but it was fun 'way back when.

Both my brother and sister can speak Russian.

The closest I get is a fondness for borscht and Chekhov's short stories.

The books in that class were read in translation, alas. My Russian is pretty much just "hello/good-bye/yes/no/please/thank you" stuff.

Back when I was a kid, a friend had this joke.

"I can speak all languages except for Greek. Ask me to speak any language."

So you would say "Say something in Japanese."

And he would respond. "That's Greek to me."
