The only equivalent to radio serials I can think of at the moment are the Doctor Who audio productions from Big Finish.

I am not really enjoying the current Doctor Who. I like him fine, but really dislike the new companion.

I've never watched, read or listened to a single thing involving Dr. Who before. EVER.
I honestly don't know the whole premise.

Believe it or not, I was massively frightened by a Doctor Who episode when I was a wee lad.
Whether that explains why I've never been able to maintain a sustained interest in the show, I'm not sure.

The premise of Doctor Who: Having moved to the city, Doctor Who gets a job as an associate producer of the 6 o'clock news where he fights vampires while raising 6 orphans.

That was a classic. But I remember that very special episode where Little Billy got cancer and even that specialist, Davros, could not cure hi, so he sacrificed himself to stop Boss Hogg's evil scheme.

My favorite was when the Doctor went on a fishing trip for a weekend with Larry Tate, George Jefferson and Howard Cunningham and there was a major blizzard and they were trapped in the cabin together until they were rescued by Rose Nylund and her St. Olaf Snow Plow.

how about that time when he got the locals schools to take a good hard look at their own prejudices and reversed their ban on admitting Cybermen and Dalek students.

He'll especially like the bits at the local pub, The Unit, where the hot waitress Sarah Jane hits on the poor, oblivious Doctor.

I liked the episode where the whole thing was a musical. Especially the big finale where Fred Astaire and a bald, orange-tinted Judy Garland led the entire pub in "It Never Was You."

I recently bought my favorite Astaire-Rogers film, Roberta on DVD. Interestingly, the title refers not to Ginger's character, nor the other female lead (played by Irene Dunne), but to the latter's employer.
