I wonder if Outdoor Miner figured out a way to work the next few posts into this storyline?

He can always blame it on the ghost of Bela Legosi.

I could, but those posts are now so far back that my post wouldn't count towards killing this thread per the rules.

It's your loss. My storyline was killer.

band

WELL WE KNOW WHERE WE'RE GOIN'
BUT WE DON'T KNOW WHERE WE'VE BEEN
AND WE KNOW WHAT WE'RE KNOWIN'
BUT WE CAN'T SAY WHAT WE'VE SEEN
AND WE'RE NOT LITTLE CHILDREN
AND WE KNOW WHAT WE WANT
AND THE FUTURE IS CERTAIN
GIVE US TIME TO WORK IT OUT

We're on a road to nowhere
Come on inside
Takin' that ride to nowhere
We'll take that ride

Feelin' okay this mornin'
And you know,
We're on the road to paradise
Here we go, here we go

We're on a ride to nowhere
Come on inside
Takin' that ride to nowhere
We'll take that ride

Maybe you wonder where you are
I don't care
Here is where time is on our side
Take you there...take you there

We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere

There's a city in my mind
Come along and take that ride
and it's all right, baby, it's all right

And it's very far away
But it's growing day by day
And it's all right, baby, it's all right

Would you like to come along
and you could help me sing this song?
And it's all right, baby, it's all right

They can tell you what to do
But they'll make a fool of you
And it's all right, baby, it's all right
And it's all right, baby, it's all right

I could never decide in the Eighties whether I wanted to be Tina Weymouth or Joan Armatrading. In retrospect, I'd go with Tina. Because I'm shy and would rather stand back from the edge of the stage.

I have a bittersweet feeling about the '80s. I was a teenager then and I didn't much like being a teenager. On the other hand, it was a great time to be a teenager in many respects.

Oh, well.

I have similar sentiments. But 80s music, even the crappier stuff, can evoke nostalgia for the good aspects (however few there seemed at the time)

Hey, we had bad presidents in Ecuador, too, especially from 1984 to 1988, when a right-wing blowhard named Leon Febres Cordero was president, but I still have many fond memories of the 80s. Then again, those were my grade school and junior high years, before the full horror of adulthood reared its ugly head.

if you didn't have a right-wing blowhard president back then, Reagan'd have given you "freedom fighters" and a brutal civil war. you got off lucky.

True. Even at that young an age, I was aware of the terrible things going on in Central America at the time.

But the Febres Cordero era negatively affected day-to-day life for Ecuadorians. My first few years in Ecuador, 1977-1983, were considerably happier than the last few, 1984-1990.

Quito is the capital of Ecuador, but Guayaquil is the largest city in the country.

The Galapagos Islands are the northernmost place to which penguins are indigenous. It figures I'd know that. smile
