... nobody has mentioned the timeliness of Abnett & Lanning's script. Am I the only one who thinks that it is interesting that the UP is being asked by the people of Talok 6 to pull their forces out. I'm not sure that many legitimate parallels can be drawn, but the story certainly seems to be a natural child of this era.

Conscious social commentary by Dan and Andy, or an ironic parallel? Cool observation, Steve. I completely missed it, to be honest... I never saw the UP as "forceful benefactors" in the caase of Umbra's homeworld.

I didn't see that, I must say. I did see the story as an allusion to the closing and darkening of the Western world in the fears of terrorism, a prevalent bunker mentality and the general dumbing down of the population.

While I don't tend to think about the adventures of the Legion in any real world context, they are escapist fantasy after all, now that you mention it...

Maybe that was their intent, but obviously it didn't come off very well as no one seemed to notice. Honestly, don't think that was the intent (though you should know, hmmmmmm).
We've had discussions about how the Legion seems to force it's will on others more so than the UP. This could be a new story line?
Parallels? No I don't see them as very strong no matter what side of the current situation one would take.
UP made no claim to go in and route out a problematic government, nor was Talok shown to have any resources of particular need to the UP.
Writing a story that examines the issues is so tough without being called as taking a side. I wouldn't mind DnA tackling such a thing, and I think this is the sort of intrigue they could pull off. Would DC allow it?

I have to say I didn't see any parallels between Talok and curren events. (Captain Marvel last month on the other hand was a direct analogy, and cleverly done)
Talok asking the UP troops to move out seemed to be me just part of the overall story about isolationism (and of course the UP guys actually left when requested).

And they were happy to leave! Scared and powerless to keep the shadow out of their headquarters.
Of course, now Talok appears to be chum chums with the U.P. again, so the S.P.s should return - but will they encounter some residual bad feelings? Are there factions of Talokian society who never wanted part of the U.P.? Stay tuned for further developments?

The situation certainly has the potential of continued developement. Of course, I'm not sure that a book with as many characters as The Legion has room for such an extensive view of one character's planet. I just hope that the relationship between Talok 6 and Earthgov continues to be unique and interesting.

Keeping track of Taloks is near as impossible as keeping track of Brainiacs.
One solution to dedicating stories to one planet is MINI-SERIES!
I REALLY would have liked to see them continue the Legion Worlds series, even if not on a regular time schedule. One here, one there.
I'd like to know if Tyr's world is still around. Now THERE is potential for topical material.
Like Talok, somewhere out there on the edges of what is considered "the norm" is a planet who's problems are overlooked.
Somewhere out there, there is a planet inhabited by snakes and rac..(OUCH!) WHO threw that!

You are, of course, right. It is Talok VIII.
So, what's the deal with Talok VI, anyway? Is it really the most happening Talok, or is Talok III the place to be?

Steve L. Considering Talok III was colonised by VIII, and they're all dead (I'm pretty sure Mikaal won't last till the 30th Century), *I* wouldn't want to be there . Anything been said, ever, pre OR post-boot, about the other 6 (+?) Talokian planets?

Perhaps that's the reason it never even dawned on me that DnA were doing it with this issue. In JLA it's (obnoxiously) in your face. I swear...if the JLA starts talking about a war with Kuraq again....

I think a supernova destroyed Talok VI and moved Talok VIII into its orbit .... oh, wait - that's Ceti Alpha VI. My bad...

Oh, speaking of war parallels though, was the TMK Khund War around "Desert Storm"? There was the whole thing about bilogical warfare that kinda paralleled but I don't recall the timing of the story to the war.

I thought the same thing. Almost mailed a copy to the White House, but didn't want the FBI or DHS knocking at my door.
