By "different" I mean "good".
Preboot: Gim's primary purpose was to stand around looking dynamic during group shots. Most of the time, his Mother (and sometimes his Daddy) was more important to the storylines. Then he falls for and marries the first Durlan hussy that impersonates the chick he always had a crush on but was too wussified to go after.
Postboot: The "good soldier" persona had potential, but Gim was killed off in a lame fashion before he could really be developed.
So please, Mark & Barry-- do right by Gim this time.
Now that Sun Boy's back, perhaps the tight bond/friendship Mark Farmer hinted at in SUPERBOY'S LEGION between the 2 could be fun to play with.
Or... maybe this time, Gim could have... a sense of humour! Talk about your radical reimaginings! Maybe Gim thinks the name "Micro Lad" is hilarious.
I guess anything is better than the personalityless cardboard cutout of the preboot and the corpse of the postboot.

I never really got to grips with Gim's personality (the temptation to write an innuendo is staggering but I'll resist it. And the innuendo ) either pre or post boot. I'd really like him to have a personality that reads somewhere above the totally flat this time.

Or maybe they can just leave him dead and introduce a good character?

As a sucker for unrequited crushes, I always wished something better had been done with the Gim-Vi non-relationship than what in fact happened. The best Gim storyline of the preboot was probably the LSV Academy story. Why didn't that have more ramifications? I mean... he effectively betrayed the Legion, even if he did for understandable reasons? Where's the "we've got to stick by our code no matter what" attitude that should have led to them expelling him after that? I always did think that he should have developed a closer connection to the Legion Academy as a result of that story, as well.
He also had the misfortune of the fact that by the time Levitz really got around to trying to do something substantial with him as a character (beyond the peripheral role in the Vi arc which led to his gaining a Durlan wife), Levitz's writing was getting rather uninspired, so what we got was the Starfinger II story.
I'm surprised something more wasn't done with his Jewishness, though.
The postboot Gim was a really interesting character, and I really looked forward to his redeeming himself by eventually proving himself a competent and successful leader, rather than the silly secret death wish that the postboot writers apparently decided was the character's natural outcome.
Agreed about the Sun Boy/Colossal Boy friendship from Superboy's Legion being something fun, though remember he was primarily cannon fodder in that story as well.
Hopefully the new background that WaK are providing will prove interesting, and he'll be the breakout star of the new series.

Personally, I'm hoping for a Gim that stomps around making "attack of the 50-foot penis" jokes!

Maybe he if comes from a race of giants, they would view themselves as godlike compared to the little people? Kind of in the way that Coluans view themselves as superior, but a different kind of superiority?
He's got to have the dutiful soldier aspect to him, though, or he'll be a completely different character.

Maybe as a former puppeteer on the Puppet Planetoid, he could be a big ol' drama king.

Gim as the wannabe holo-star. Might work, especially if he was "Mr. Special and Popular" on his homeworld due to his unique power to shrink down to 6-feet.
Or I guess they could have all hated him and called him "Micro Lad" to make fun of him. I hope not!

I wonder how he gained his special power? I assume the blah falling meteorite origin is out?

I hope they reveal that he's really Shvaughn Erin. Give it a few issues till he runs out of Pro-Men (or whatever) and grows her boobs back - then think of the "shock" that will ensue!

Well, I suppose his entire race could be hermaphrodites. That would be different, certainly.

No, it has to be Shvaugh Erin - not a generic (wo)man-thing.

The only time I liked Gim is when he actually found the kahones to make a move on Vi... right on through the Yera revelation - and acceptance. He got boring thereafter, and never recovered, although Capt Allon of the SPs had potential.
Hopefully, he'll be the 1st legionnaire on the new incarnation of Shanghalla.
The childhood friend Exnihil never had.

My Prediction:
Gim will be to the re-imagining what Lyle was to the reboot.

Well, I meant he'd be the formerly dead character turned incredibly popular star, but if that entails being gay...

How about WAK make all the legionnaires bi-sexual thus satisfying all legion fans both Gay and straight?
That way Gim have a relationship with Vi but also see Karate Kid on the side.
A win-win situation!

A Gim/Gigi relationship would be cool as well. I saw preboot Gim as a former sci-cop down to earth kinda guy.
Sure he looked dramatic in shots mostly but I enjoyed his ANGER in #305 (my first issue). His size/muscle came in handy fer sure. The work on his character (as well as Cham's) may have been the only positives from the Starfinger thing.
