I dig it. Its retro without being outdated. I also like the subtle differences of the "s" on either side of Super-Heroes. Too many times the letters aren't customied to be just right.

Yeah, it is pretty cool. I agree with Elvis Lad that it's retro Adventure-style.

I like it! Retro is in according to my book. I like the concept of rotating Legionnaires on either side.
It'll be interesting to see if the Legionnaires featured match who stars in the stories for once, though.

It's attractive, and the blocky strokes will make it stand out among the store-rack clutter, which is what they should be aiming to achieve. The variations on the "S" are elegant as well.
Yet I wonder if it isn't a bit too retro, as this almost evokes the 1930s. The cursive "of" doesn't really fit, either, as the contrast is too strong with the other words' strokes. The v2-to-Tales logo varied size with its "of", rather than style.
As for trademarks, LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES® is registered -- the words, used in running text. This particular logo wouldn't be registered yet. The ® here may be premature on their part.

ick. Don't care for it. A bit too romantic for me. Are we gonna have someone crying with a word balloon on the cover every issue??? But thanks for posting now I can use it at my micro site! Jorge

Well, speaking as a graphic designer I think it works. I think that sort of retro look runs the fine line of being a little bit cute or twee but I think that that logo has really pulled it off.
Who's the person in the circle on the far right?

My guess is that it's Chameleon or Star Boy. Hard to tell because it looks like the Thing.

I think Grey got it when he said it was 1920s-style.
I'd say I didn't care for it, but everyone would think I was just saying that for the sake of it at this point.

I understand the 1920s comment...but it's no Metropolis or Sky Captain World of Tommorrow

From a design standpoint, I think it's very attractive, but honestly I'm not sure it fits or would work to help sell the book. Waid keeps saying he wants new audiences (hence ditching past continuity), but the retro title only serves to remind people how old this proprty really is. While retro may be cool, the title itself isn't retro. Kitson's art isn't, nor are the stories that are going to be told (from what Waid has said). It strikes me as anachronistic considering the other design elements of the book (that we've seen).

ehh. i have to agree it looks waaay too pulp for new readers. i love the adventure era but is this the best way to go if they want to look forward instead of backward?

I agree with Drake3000 about attracting new readers. Teenagers today aren't like they were 30 years ago. The old school members only with the logo...eh. But as Drake said Waid/Kitson both promise to blow our socks off. If minor elements seem a bit retro but the main thrust is new and wow...i don't care at all. Ofcourse I also want the FUTURE not a future based on what they think the past was...my present. does that make since? Jorge

I think it looks really classic, evocative perhaps of bygone age but not one in particular. The logo I find it most similar to is the Fantastic Four, which also has a timeless, pulpy quality about it. I'm all for the character "medallions." Along with the expository banter, letters/text pages, roll calls, character profiles, all serve to introduce the Legionnaires to new readers. One of the things I LOVED about the Legion as a kid was that they were always running profiles of the characters -- in the regular comic, the giant-sized tabloids, on Slurpy Cups. How ELSE can you get readers involved a book with a large cast?

I have no comment on why your ethnicity would affect your aesthetic sensibilties...
I stand by my assertion that they are similar in style, if not in the precise font.

We just like to tease MacReboot about being Scottish, since he likes to remind us he's not English!! I like the logo well enough, but I'd have to see it on the rack mixed in with other titles to judge how well it stands out. Is it important that the logo be the same from month to month - is it a big recognition factor to have the exact same look?

Not necessarily. JSA just changed its logo but I had no problem finding it.

I think the new logo is pretty damn cool looking. All the news I've heard from the guys at the con has only made me more enthusiastic. Making the cover stand out is definatley a plus IMO.
