1489 - The Queen of Cyprus, Catherine Cornaro, sells her kingdom to Venice.

1488 - Rathborne Candles, the oldest candle manufacturer in the world, is established in Dublin.

1487 - The Netherland province of Friesland's largest city, Leeuwarden, bans all foreign beer. One innkeeper, pressured by his patrons, keeps serving Haarlem beer. Officials confiscate said beer and arrest all drinkers, causing their friends to rescue them and start a riot.

1486 - Tízoc, Aztec ruler of Tenochtitlan, dies. Some sources suggest that he was poisoned, others that he was the victim of "sorcery" or illness.
He is succeeded by his brother Auitzotl.

1478 - Soltan Yaghub takes over the Ak Koyunlu tribe. They were an Oghuz Turkic tribal federation, that ruled parts of present-day Eastern Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, northern Iraq, and western Iran from 1378 to 1508. He would, unfortunately, be the last leader - in his first year of rule, he had to put down no less than seven pretenders to the throne. After his death, civil war would case the Ak Koyunlu to destroy themselves from within.
