1468 - The Emerald Buddha is finally moved to Chiang Mai.
The Buddha was first discovered in 1434 when lightning struck a pagoda in a temple in Chiang Rai, revealing a hidden statue. The king wanted it moved to his capital in Chiang Mai, but thrice the elephant carrying it insisted on going to Lampang. This was taken as a sign, and the Buddha was kept there until 1468.
