wow a lot of milestones in 1885 - Washington Monument was dedicated. The first automobile (Benz Patent Motorwagon).The first skyscraper (the Home Insurance Building) is built in Chicago, Illinois, USA (10 floors). Bicycle Playing Cards are first produced. Sure love that year!! Makes me want to go timetravel to that year and celebrate them all.

1877 - Rutherford B. Hayes is sworn in as 19th U.S. president. Called "Rutherfraud" by opponents who charge that he stole the election, Hayes won the electoral but not the popular vote (a phenomenon that will be repeated in 2001).
