Hey KP, just stopping by to play with your toys! I know this guy is a bit later, but what was the name of the really big scorpion transformer that came out? Do you remember who I'm talking about? It was really cool, that much I remember...

I begged my parents to buy me the Unicron figure, but they declined.

Apparently the $500,000 price tag was too steep -- not to mention the fact that the figure (which was on the same scale as the other Transformers) was roughly the size of a city block.

Nope. It's a giant, everything-eating, malevolent transforming planet.

Hey KP, I found some of your transformers scattered around at SHAKES. Brought them back for you. Looks like they made it through the party with no damage.

29. Grimlock

[Linked Image]

Function: Dinobot commander

The discovery of the fossilized remains of dinosaurs in the volcanic mountain where the Autobots's ship crashed got Wheeljack, the Autobots' resident inventor, to think about the possibility of adapting the power of the Earth's prehistoric giant lizards to use as added warriors for the Autobot cause. Though disastrous at first, eventually, the Dinobots emerged as a wrecking crew/strike force for the Autobots, and while seemingly always on the verge of uncontrollableness, they are a huge asset to the Autobots' activities on Earth, and possibly Wheeljack's greatest accomplishment.

The most important thing on Grimlock's mind at all times is that HE is Dinobot leader, NOT Optimus Prime. The dinobots do what HE says, when he says it. Because Grimlock is stubborn, recalcitrant, tyrannical, willful, and more than a little bit proud, this can cause difficulties among the Autobots ranks. Frankly, Grimlock would make a superb Decepticon, if for one small problem. The Dinobot leader is good. Though all his personality issues can make him nearly impossible to deal with, deep down, his heart is golden. It is this goodness that Optimus Prime trusts in, as it is hard to think of any other particular reason to trust Grimlock. And of course, there's the issue of Grimlock's intelligence, which is frankly in the lower percentile of the Autobot ranks. Though Grimlock is fierce and fearsome, terrifying in battle, there is a softer side to the Dinobot leader, which comes out in his friendship with the human child Daniel Witwicky and the grizzled old Autobot warrior Kup. Of course, Grimlock never tires of testing the limits of Prime's patience, but his addition of sheer power to the Autobot ranks cannot be disputed.

Grimlock spends most of his combat time in his T-Rex mode, where he is practically invulnerable. For long-range attacks, he uses a flamethrower which simulates fiery breath. And for close-in hand-to-hand combat... well, it's better just to stay out of his way. His jaws can snap the wings off of Decepticon jets. His fighting prowess is superior, though his approach is basically to stomp enemies into the ground. His combination of strength, firepower, endurance, and viciousness makes him a terrifying force. The best idea with Grimlock is to stand back and give him and the rest of the Dinobots room to work. The amount of collatreal damage Grimlock and his team can cause is incredibly high, and oftentime in the heat of battle will spread to the Autobot ranks as well as the Decepticon forces. The trick with Grimlock and the Dinobots is finding places for them to work where the damage they cause in their wake does not negate their usefulness.

You know, I never realized this before, but now that I think about it -- Grimlock is one of the few Transformers whose transformed mode comes to mind first when I think about him. (Bumblebee is another.) I'm sure that the fact he was in dinosaur form much of the time has a lot to do with it...

OptimusPrime
Maybe a Ken Transformer would be more appropriate. And for the younger set, a Hello Kitty Transformer.

Let's make Ken anatomically correct first, then we'll talk about his transforming power.

Well, there was Circuit Breaker, a human woman who was sort of "Borgified," and who vowed to take revenge on all Transformers.

If there's a Harley Davidson Barbie, why not a Circuit Breaker Barbie?
