Is it true that it is only the first year of the "Tales of the Legion of Super Heroes" that does not reprint stories from vol. 3(Baxter comics)?

Yes, issues 313 to 325 of "Tales" have wholly original stories. Those ran, in their storytelling order, to alternate with issues 1 to 12 of "LSH" volume 3.

After this, "Tales" were reprints of volume 3 issues from a year earlier, except for one "Crisis"-related story, where the reprint was of another earlier issue instead with a Wildfire spotlight. The reprints ran to number 354 ("LSH" volume 3 issue 29).

These "Tales" reprints did, however, all have newly created cover art (most of them by Steve Lightle) and, in their first few issues, newly assembled letter columns. So not quite every aspect is a reprint, and in some ways they're still worth collecting.

That's about as perfect an answer you'll get (nice Grey!).

Let me add that those 12 issues of original Tales story are really great reads too--with great early Dan Jurgens artwork in some of them!

Thanks to both of you. I have just ordered the first 12 of vol 3. and the first 12. of tales.

"These "Tales" reprints did, however, all have newly created cover art"

This is the reason i asked, the different covers confused me.

Terry Shoemaker (with Karl Kesel) had some great stuff in there too - I'm sorry he didn't have a longer run.

Me too. I was really impressed by his interview and art in the Companion. I'd like to see what he could do with the WaK Legion.
