I'm going to wait until the very last minute, and then cast a dramatic, decisive vote -- cue image of a stone-faced Jeff Proty revealing the final vote at a shocking Tribal Council...

Also, a cruise might be fun. Lots of potables and nowhere to go but into the drink.

Ha ha!

Continuing with the Survivor theme, I'm wondering what happens if there's a tie once all the votes have been tabulated. Do we have a "make fire" type of tie-breaker? I'm sure Jeff Proty has something very clever (read: fiendish) in mind.

You might very well get to find out, Raging Bull, as Day 5 has brought us another vote (27 total) which again has brought us to a first place tie.

Looking over the totals so far, it seems there are three tiers of voting levels:

- Four locations are struggling to gain support with point totals still in the single digit range.

- Four others have crossed the double digit mark but hover within a single point of one another.

- And the top two have established a nice lead, but continue their back and forth tug of war for dominance.

Two more days and all will be revealed. Has your vote been added? The way things are looking it just might be the one that makes all the difference.

Where were you when suggestions were being discussed?

And there have been plenty of San Diego gatherings already, including the mega-2008 gathering.

Day 6 Summary:

A few more votes thrown into the mix, mostly adding a point or two to the middle of the pack locations and now bringing us to 30 total.

With just a day and a half left to chime in, the overall spread stays fairly unchanged since yesterday with:

- 4 locations in in the single digits, 6 in the doubles
- and the 2 leaders still tied for first.

Voting will end tomorrow at 9PM EST, so if you've been waiting for the key moment, there is no time like the present... vote away!

Just curious, but which of those cities would be the easiest/cheapest to reach from the West Coast? Specifically, LA?

Probably Chicago, maybe New York -- those will be the biggest hubs. Chicago would be closer, but that doesn't always mean anything.

Not that it wouldn't be awesome to meet you, but if you want to stick to the West Coast for cost, Legion World gets a table at San Diego Comic Con, and lots of LW'ers meet up there.

All right... with less than 24 hours left until the end of the poll, I figured it would probably be better to put this suggestion out there now, rather than debate it after the fact, that way everyone could make whatever informed decision they like and proceed accordingly.

With the current 31 votes, we actually are still in a tie situation for first place. If the tie remains unbroken at 9PM tomorrow, I figured I would just put up a second "Sudden Death Overtime" poll with just the first place contenders, and let them battle it out for a more limited window... say like 72 hours?

If additional votes come in and change that situation, it becomes a moot point anyway but, this way, we at least have a plan for that contingency.

Sound good?

Ex, I think your suggestion is completely fair and excellent. Go with it, I say!

Thanks Seymour, much appreciated. I have relatives in NYC so that'll be my primary if ever.

So if I understand this correctly...

If choice "Braal" has 4 first place votes and 1 second place vote, then it has 9 total votes. If choice "Titan" has 2 first place votes and 6 second place votes, it has 10 total votes.

Under such circumstances, Titan would win the poll, despite not having the greatest number of first place votes. Is this correct?

That is correct - I figured that methodology would strike the best balance between everyone having an equal vote for their first choice, but still being able to issue a nominal support for a couple other locations that, while not their personal preferences, they wouldn't necessarily mind going to.

IB, I travel a lot, so I can tell you that from LA, you should have no problem getting direct, "cheaper" flights to Chicago, New York, St. Louis, Memphis, Atlanta and Dallas. Those airports (realizing some aren't even on our list) are basically hubs that always connect to everywhere.

I'm too lazy to check what is in the lead, but if its NYC or Chicago, I recommend the Jet Blue flight from LA. If you book it far enough in advance, you'd get a great price. Assuming you'd be coming, you'd go through LA, and one of those cities ends up being the one.

FYI, Jet Blue is the only US airline that isn't total crap IMO.

I selfishly voted for Chicago, because it's only 2 hours away (assuming I can get my Visa renewed and I'm still in Indy next year!)

Some great cities on that list, but unfortunately I don't have time or funds to go too far. But it would be lovely to see some old friends again.

Just 3 hours left to have your vote count!

With 33 votes in, we are no longer in a tie situation. There is a clear frontrunner at this time... but just a one point spread among the top 3.

This could go in any direction, so chime in now, or... come 9PM EST tonight, chime no more.

...or something. smile

I approve of your methodology. I would suggest, though, in the event of a tie, we take a few days to re-evaluate/debate the pros and cons of our finalists before conducting a run-off.

Alternatively, a tie in which one has more first-place votes coul be considered the winner, as well.

Or let each tied choice be represented by its most ardent advocate from among LW's ranks -- the ultimate winner to be determined by a contest in which the participants must make no more and no fewer than one post in every successive five-minute period. If you post more than once in a five-minute period, or fail to post, you're out.

Can you imagine how torturous such a contest could be, especially if it went on for, say, two and a half hours? I shudder at the thought! eek
