Kill sentients, that is... in that battle scene on Lallor, it looked like some of their opponents were getting seriously, if not fatally, maimed.
I figure "no killing" would be part of their idealism - but maybe they haven't worked that out yet.

Well the Legion seem very high on the whole superhero stuff. If they are using the cornball names my guess is that killing is a big no no. But in the Lallor scene I also wondered how much for they were using. I say no but if they did it would be interesting to see just how warped their vision of the superhero age is Jorge

I'm assuming they weren't killing on Lallor. In fact, this brings up a question about fighting. If it's been over for centuries, wouldn't people be pretty bad at it? Who kept the techniques alive? It would seem like accidental deaths would be more frequent with unskilled soldiers/police.

I'd agree that the "corny" old-fashioned code names probably means a "no-kiling" rule. Though with tousands of members, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few Legionnaires take a more hardline position (even if they aren't the ones on the "core team").

A great question, FC, as always. It's one of those typical comic-book-paradoxes-that-must-be-ignored to imagine that such powerful beings, using their powers agressively, wouldn't accidentally snuff someone now and then.
The Star Boy murder trial story from the Adventure era was great for tackling this and solving the paradox by setting a high standard need for the Legionnaires, requiring them to be very smart and careful in the use of their powers. Too bad Waid doesn't want to repeat stories. This topic would seem very timely, given the Legion's new role as a philosophical movement engaging in political conflict.
Sketch Lad's point is also we taken, arguing for some sort of Legion Academy to train new members. Of course, Invisible Kid's OTJ training in issue #1 suggests Waid may not want to address this implication of his back-story.
...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

Good question. They've always kind of had their cake and eaten it too (huge battle scenes, spaceships blowing up, but we are assured that no one died), so I wouldn't necessarily make the assumption that thousands died. I think that especially in the current geopolitical circumstances, we need heroes who do not kill.

Hmm. Sketch Lad, you have a point, although I'm thinking I've twisted it into something else. We see weapons and evidence that the SP are neccessary, so just how peaceful *is* this new future? My guess would be, not nearly as much so as it might appear at first glance.
Maybe what's been lost is the need to fight *for* something?
And you know, if there is a 'corny' no killing mandate in line with the codenames and costumes... I bet if a situation ever really *does* get bad, certain characters would use lethal force anyway.
"Don't you get it? He would have killed me. It isn't a game anymore?" "When was it ever a game?"

I'd imagine that there is still a U.P. type military, in addition to the S.P.
Keep in mind that we, as a society now, typically do not fight because we are peaceful. We typically do not fight because we fear the repercussions, such as military involvement.

I certainly hope there WON'T be any Legion killers (or killings for that matter).
Super heroes don't kill people. Any jerkwad with a gun can kill somebody. I'd like to see the Legionaires get into impossible dilemmas, then use their abilities (and their brains) to AVOID those situations. If this version becomes some kind of bloodbath, what is the interest in the 31st century? I can pick up the Washington Post for 2 bucks cheaper and be bummed out right here in the 21st century.

It definetly looked to me like some of the Legion members were not to worried about killing people in the lallor fight seen. Sun Boy and Karate Kid really spring to mind. If that is the case then Waid is really going to need to show some fallout for this.

I just re-read the issue today. (4th time, by the way.) I paid very close attention to the fight scenes on Lallor.... It appeared to me that the Legion was using appropriate force in their battle. They did all they could to protect those who were being hurt and attacked. People got injured, people bled, but no one died by their hand. This is not saying some of the Lallorians weren't wishing they were dead when it was all said and done......

Well, when I tried to join, they seemed okay with it.
I said, "shrink, I wanna kill..." Oh wait - that was Arlo Lad joining the Army.
The childhood friend Exnihil never had.
