I dunno. I like the reckless Ultra Boy. The conversation about flight rings was priceless.
"Who was first to test that theory?" "Guess"
I actually laughed out loud.
Is that the poster for Barry's band in the background of the first panel again?
And, can anybody make out the text on the bottom of the screen in the bottom panel of the first page? I thought the image on the screen looked amazingly like the original Invisible Kid at first glance.

i liked this issue, not the bullying of the criminal and the antagonizing of civilians and the police. i want the legion to be better than that. they could be villified to easy as super thugs. gang warfare ensues...not a good thing.

Hi Guys Thanks for the kind words about the artwork - It's nice to be back! I actually agree with you about the bad behaviour of some of the Legionnaires - but they have to grow - and if they were all perfect there wouldn't be much room for development. Part of the story is to see how they each develop ... some into better people...some maybe less so. Either way we hope to keep you entertained as you see what happens.

This series my not be an organic extention of the Pre-Boot/Crisis Legion (yet!), but it is not only one of the best interpretations since, it is in it's own way far more respectful to what has gone before than the Post-Boot Legion.
I loved this issue and can't wait to see where it takes us next. [/b]Amen on all of the above, except that in my case, I've only been reading since the early '80s. Still, I think 23+ years of buying Legion off the stands qualifies me as at least a somewhat longtime reader, and I really enjoy this series... Even the kids vs. adults angle. I loved the opening scene of this issue. On a completely unrelated note, today was doubly-happy for me: My local comic shop had a copy (in great condition) of the Superboy and the LSH Treasury Edition... the one with the Shooter/Swan/Abel Mordru story. This thing has narrowly escaped my grasp about 10 times through the years -- but it's finally mine!

I'm not sure Mark Waid's very excited about the idea of the fans voting like we did in the old days but when did disapproval ever stop us before? Vote here! If we ARE going to be allowed to though, we might as well get the ball rolling. -he he- I'm sure Mark's just goingh to LOVE this

I've been reading Legion a long time as well and I have to say that I really like this Legion. Are they wankers? Sure at times, but they ARE teenagers in an overly oppressive society. If they didn't lash out against the adults, I feel it wouldn't ring true.
However, I also think that this is a set up. They are going to have to do some growing up and realize that there are consequences to their actions. How long before we that, I wonder?

And I have to agree with you about needing to see these kids grow up. They are kids and they are caught up in the issues of their time. That's why I may not be as annoyed as some about the "Eat it Grandpa!" remarks. These kids need to find their place in the universe.

Very enjoyable issue...but I agree with everyone who didn't enjoy the behaviour of the less mature legionnaires in the first 5 pages...lets hope they grow up soon. Although...I have to admit Mark's dialogue is always entertaining...even in these sequences. However, I was hoping after the 1st year's storyline was resolved the whole adult vs youth movement would simmer down some. I think the SciPol vs. Legion antagonism is a much more interesting source of drama...and doesn't have to trade on "Eat it Grandpa" silliness. Cosmic Boy needs to step down...at least until his hair returns to its natural colour (black!)

one of the things I continue to enjoy about the book are the little touches. for instance on that first page: the news screen the lady is looking at not only mentions the fast moving object, but it also mentions that the Coulan race is still in the dark ages. so I guess the poor folks haven't recovered from Lemnos' attack. nice subtle way to give an update on that. perhaps I am just paranoid from reading so many spy novels, but does anyone else feel that just maybe the SP knew about that alien running around in an SP uniform? maybe it's some sort of renegade SP plot to overthrow earthgov. lastly who or what are dominators? they have been mentioned serveral times in the book and always with a negative light. I guess at some point they will be the new/old bad guys.

The Dominators are an a particularly nasty alien race that have been shown as antagonists of the Legion and the United Planets in previous incarnations, most notably during the Five-Years-Later era, in which they'd secretly taken over the Earth by establishing a puppet Earthgov.
In at least some versions of continuity, a significant part of the Legion homeworlds were actually colonized by meta-gene positive humans who had been kidnapped by Dominators in the 20th century and then freed, thus resulting in a slew of planets inhabited by super-powered humans. The Legionnaire Mon-El/Valor/Lar Gand was responsible for freeing the Dominion prisoners and "seeding" the worlds before he ended up in the 30th century.

Well...here in the first few hours of voting Lightning Lad's kicking some major butt!
Shadow Lass is showing pretty darned well too. That's amazing. I never before gave a thought to Shady as LSH leader but it's a super-cool idea!
The poll is set up to be open for a month so the final results won't be in until after the next issue.

Overall I liked this issue. I wasn't even sure if I was going to pick it up or not, but I happened to be close by the shop so I decided to swing in. I'm glad I did. The pages we saw in the preview are still kind of irritating but I loved seeing the Legion on a mission that for once didn't involve repelling an invading armada. It was refreshing. I hope to see more of it, I've always liked the odd moments when the team uses their abilities for rescue missions, charity circuses and the like. Barry's art was lovely as ever. It's the first Supergirl I've seen since her most recent reintroduction that didn't make me outright cringe. So, it looks like I'll be back again next month.

ITS OUTRAGEOUS! A dream? It was lame when it was done on Dallas 20 yrs ago! I am done! Goodbye LSH!
But hang on a second.....When Cobalt Kid posted this...
Jo: "...huh. *That* was weird" Cos: "tell me about it. So I guess this Magic Wars thing is over with and we can proceed. How's Dreamy?" Jo: "Weirded out. When the Arch-Mage went kablooie she had all these visions of alternate realities and reboots and five years later and all other kinds of stuff. She's resting now." Cos: "Well, the rest is over. The Legion is back!"
I thought it was the greatest thing ever. A super idea! So why dont I like the idea of the current legion being a dream?
I'm not really really gonna drop the book but I sure do wish Cobalt Kid was dreaming this instead of Mark.

I'm pretty excited about the Dominators being back. They've always been my favorite villain race.

I too am sick of the Eat it Grandpa attitude. I thought the issue was a quick read and am very disturbed by the "It's all a dream" cliffhanger. Also, I want DREAM GIRL back, dammit. How can 2 weeks have passed with Brainy and DG missing and no one's even looking for them?
Here's my theory on Dream Boy. Brainy has cloned a male body and transferred Nura's brain into it, hence Dream Boy will be gay!

It's back. THIS is the LSH as it should be. I have to agree and disagree with you. The pages of the Legionnaires trying to stop the missle is exactly how I remember my Legion. Great action and teamwork. I do not like the attitudes towards the grown ups. The Legion is much better than that. They were a symbol that adults and children could look up to and admire. This bunch is rudeand disrespectful and painful to read. I hope that the maturing of these brats comes along very quickly as it is hard to respect these kids even with their saving of the galaxy. I hope we have seen the last of this deplorable behavior.
I am smelling like a rose that somebody gave me on my birthday deathbed.

In the world we're presented with in this series, what more rational response could there be than mindless teenaged rebellion? Am I the only one here who remembers what it was like to be young, angry at the inequity and general injustice of the world around me, yet without any workable, constructive solutions of my own? Yeah, I've heard some people say that the dialogue sometimes sounds more like an adult's cloudy remembering of teenage emotion, than teenage emotion itself. That's a somewhat legit complaint, I guess. But I just stick all that through the filter of "this comic takes place 1000 years from now; people are going to be different"...same as I have done with every Legion story all the way back to the stilted stuff of the Adventure era (which I do love).

Amen to the above. This may be the first time when the Legionnaries who are supposed to be teens, act like teens.

I agree as well. The society portrayed here is largely deplorable and not worthy of respect. Bad manners is a valid revolutionary tactic against a culture that uses artificially good manners to reinforce its lies.
