OHMIGAWD!!!! SNL was awesome!! Couldn't believe Gwen did "Hollaback Girl"! Wasn't sure how it would sound live, but it sounded GREAT! She couldn't say "shit" all through it, though!  And I was SO hoping Eve would be there to do "Rich Girl" with her and SHE WAS! And they looked SO FREAKING HOT. They're like the musical version of Snow White and Rose Red, they look like sisters to me. And Ashton in his boy-panties? OHMIGAWD, I thought I was gonna like, have a freakout. If you didn't see it, you totally missed all the hotness!

Wow, just over a year later and Gwen ended up doing very well with her "Love Angel Music Baby" CD! Last I checked, she had passed 6 million in sales for her "L A M B" cd, 5 videos from it hitting VH1 top 20, became the first artist to have one million legal downloads, launched a clothing line, and won the AMA for Pop Female Vocalist! Ummm. Not bad. I think she owes it to "Hollaback Girl", which became the breakout smash on that CD that everyone knew, whether they liked it or hated it. Vu was first here to mention it ("track # 3")!

So, Gwen's secod solo CD is slated for release, like, SOON. This month, I know.
And the first single from it, WIND IT UP, to the best of my knowledge is likely to be the first hit pop song that features yodeling.

Although I *am* a little concerned about her recently admitting that this current CD is less retro and more modern. I mean, her retro-ness is what made her so kewl to begin with (i.e., "It's My Life" cover with No Doubt, 90% "Tragic Kingdom", "Rock Steady" and "Love Angel Music Baby").
On a different note, I submit that I hate the usage of "i.e.". Ugggh.

So I've been listening to Gwen's new CD for almost a week now.
My verdict is: It's even BETTER than Love Angel Music Baby, and I loved Love Angel Music Baby.
Worth the price of admission alone are EARLY WINTER and WONDERFUL LIFE, which brings back "melancholy" Gwen which was absent from the uber-peppy-poppy-happy L.A.M.B. cd. These 2 songs remind me of some of my favorite late-80s/early 90's depressing (but REALLY good!) club tracks.
As for the more mod stuff, I love ORANGE COUNTY GIRL and YUMMY.
Other favorites: DON'T GET IT TWISTED and 4:00 IN THE MORNING.
Surprisingly, I find the leadoff single WIND IT UP to be probably the weakest track on the CD.
This cd is more retro than Gwen originally led me to believe it would be. The second single SWEET ESCAPE reminds me so much of Madonna circa 1987-1989 I almost think it's her every time I hear the song.

"Early Winter" was co-written by the piano player from Keane, if memory serves, so "melancholy" would be no surprise there.

I saw her on SNL performing again, and all the Harajuku girls wore the same blonde wig. It was fun.
I don't expect to get any cd's for Christmas this year, so maybe I'll go buy this one after.
