I recently did a lot of CD shopping for myself, thanks to Tower going out of business.

Well, I just ripped an all-Gwen CD of my favorites from her solo efforts and No Doubt's CDs. FUN!

One of my 2 fave songs from Gwen's second cd... "it's a wonderful wonderful life... why'd you have to say goodbye?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gziiZhkIPMc

My other fave song from her second CD... it is impossible not to love this. It reminds me SO MUCH of melancholy late-80s dance hits like The Smiths "How Soon Is Now" and Talk Talk's "It's My Life"... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20fenZeJHy0

Despite all the other hits from it, THIS was my favorite song from No Doubt's breakthrough CD "Tragic Kingdom". David and I broke up shortly after this CD was released and this song- and it's anger- and its haunting ending- struck a chord with me I still love. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NVJhdcpsbc

As is well-known, No Doubt's cd ROCK STEADY is one of my personal top 10 CDs. One reason is its being an obvious love-letter to the 1980s, such as in this non-release: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6Yi1fKZs4A

Also a fave non-release from ROCK STEADY, No Doubt's ode to mellow herbal refreshment! Back in the diz-ay I was into that stuff, like many young men... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywbLRA3Ht04 "Go on baby get the lighter... we're gonna start the fire!"

And lastly, also from ROCK STEADY... this was SO my paranoid ass at one time... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1x1oaRInwM "now I'm a broken-hearted detective..."

Bah, I lied. One more from ROCK STEADY; this was also a non-release I think, but could have been a MASSIVE dance hit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mmxbo7om_E0 "I anticipate... us making out!" I think I've got Gwen and No Doubt on the brain because No Doubt is soon to release a new CD, as is well-known by people who have "LIKE"d either Gwen or No Doubt on Facebook! I'm totes looking forward to it!

Like just about everyone else in 9th grade at the time, "SpiderWebs" totally blew me away and made me a huge fan (with a huge crush!).

My verdict is: It's even BETTER than Love Angel Music Baby, and I loved Love Angel Music Baby. . . . . Worth the price of admission alone are EARLY WINTER and WONDERFUL LIFE, which brings back "melancholy" Gwen which was absent from the uber-peppy-poppy-happy L.A.M.B. cd. These 2 songs remind me of some of my favorite late-80s/early 90's depressing (but REALLY good!) club tracks.
I now totally disagree with my first statement. Her first solo effort is, overall, more fun. However, my second statement above is still 100% accurate.
