The Muppet vampire, Count von Count from Sesame Street, is based on actual vampire myth. One way to supposedly deter a vampire is to throw seeds (usually mustard) outside a door or place fishing net outside a window. In the movie "Scarface" the F-word is said 207 time, which works out to an average of 1.22 per minute.

I saw "Scarface" in a widescreen movie theatre when it got a limited 20th Anniversary re-release. It was 20 million times more awesome than when I'd seen it on a TV screen.

I've always liked Carlito's Way better than Scarface (if we're talking De Palma/Pacino gangster movies). Not that Scarface isn't a great movie, I just like Carlito's Way that much.

Me and my friends used to play the Scarface drinking game....everytime they say the F-word, you do a shot of beer.

"Carlito's Way" featured Jorge Porcel in a rare dramatic role. Growing up in South America, it was impossible to not be aware of Porcel and his comedic partner Alberto Olmedo. They were sort of a Latin American Abbott & Costello updated for the swingers generation.

Their partnership ended in the mid-late 80s when Olmedo fell off a high-rise balcony during a cocaine binge.

Porcel is alive and well and retired from showbiz.

Since I grumble so much here about both not working and working, I report the following out of a sense of civic duty:

Yesterday I was going about my business in the warehouse and one of the supervisors came over to watch me for a couple of minutes. He's not one I see very often, and after a minute or so of circling around he said, "This looks great. Very organized. Oh, and it looks like you're not comfortable crouching down in the corner so I'll get Inventory to send over a table for you to set up the stock on."

I almost fell off the pallet I was stocking. It was truly a magic moment.

Sometimes, there are good bosses.

When I was in grad school, I worked at the campus library. I arrived for work one day to find the door locked; another worker told me the boss was in a meeting with his boss. When I went back half an hour later and signed in, the boss jumped me for being late. I told him that I was on time and the door was locked because he was in a meeting. He apologized immediately; I brushed it off and went back to work. However, he was so mortified that he came over to where I was shelving books and apologized again.

His humility and respect for me as an employee have always stayed with me.
