I met a man named Earl Lloyd this week. I had no idea who he was, except a very tall, African American gentleman about 80 years old. He had on a "CIAA" basketball conference cap. I asked if he had coached there and he said that he and his wife went to the CIAA tournament every year, since that was the conference he went to school in. We had a nice conversation. He suggested I Google him. As soon as I got a chance, I did.
Wow.
He was the first black player to suit up in the NBA, the first full time black head coach, played 9 years in the NBA, and was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003. I shook his hand and got an autograph. Very cool, and such a nice man.
