On the mountainside above Fort William, Scotland, are several huge pipes that protrude out from the mountain and lead into town; these are aqueducts that conduct water from reservoirs further up in the mountains.

The owner of the youth hostel I stayed at years ago (in a village not far away, and still within sight of the mountain and pipes) told me how he had told some Australian girls that the pipes actually contain hot porridge that directly connected to taps in each house; all residents could have hot porridge at any time with the turn of the tap.

The poor girls apparently made complete fools of themselves in town the next day asking about the porridge.

Not a pudding story, but as close as I could manage on short notice.

Tonight's fixation on pudding could not have happened without the surreally dysfunctional relationship between British pop star Lily Allen and her mother, film producer Alison Owen, who got into an argument in which Alison insisted on making pudding, her unflappable stubborness nearly driving Lily to tears.

Today is trash day. We are cheapskates that only pay to have the trash removed once a month. In a family of only two humans + a compost bin + recycle-mania, this works better than you might imagine...
