It was casual week at work last week so I didn't shave for a couple days... was lazy on the weekend... and by the time yesterday rolled around I realized I had inadvertently grown a beard. I think I'll keep it for a while.

I think you can pull off the beard. Just don't go with the Unabomber style.

I couldn't inadvertently grow a full beard in 6 months time. The goatee was hard enough.

I prefer Church Latin pronunciation (VEH-nee VEE-dee VEE-chee) to Classical Latin (WEH-nee WEE-dee WEE-kee).

Today in 1521 – Pope Leo X issued the papal bull Decet Romanum Pontificem, excommunicating Martin Luther from the Roman Catholic Church after Luther refused to retract 41 of his 95 theses.

My appendix almost ruptured. When they removed it, it was 8.5 inches long. They are only supposed to be about 2.5 inches long. I had been having trouble with it for almost 15 years and didn't know that it was the problem. The doctor told me that it was less than 20 minutes from rupturing and that as large as it was, i would have been dead within 15 minutes.

My Justice League PJ pants my kids got me for Christmas features numerous individual comic-like panels of Superman, Batman, Aquaman, Green Lantern (Hal) and the Flash (probably Barry) in action poses interspersed with panels featuring their respective symbols. The Batman figure and symbol feature the classic yellow circle around the bat. There is no panel for an Aquaman symbol.

Twelfth Night or Epiphany Eve is a festival in some branches of Christianity marking the coming of the Epiphany, concluding the Twelve Days of Christmas, and is defined by the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary as "the evening of the fifth of January, preceding Twelfth Day, the eve of the Epiphany, formerly the last day of the Christmas festivities and observed as a time of merrymaking".

The celebration of Epiphany, the adoration of the Magi, is marked in some cultures by the exchange of gifts, and Twelfth Night, as the eve or vigil of Epiphany, takes on a similar significance to Christmas Eve.

A more recent tradition in some English-speaking countries holds that it is unlucky to leave Christmas decorations hanging after Twelfth Night, a belief originally attached to the festival of Candlemas (2 February).

There's a little bendy snowman that one of my employees put on one of the computers on the reference desk at Christmastime. It has a green hat, green gloves and green boots. It looks more than a little like the Spectre!

I am inordinately amused every time I play Hayseed Dixie's renditions of AC/DC songs. I can't help it. I just am.

I only just now realized there is no "cent" symbol on my keyboard. Has that always been the case? I could have sworn there was one.
