1) What color is Shadow Lass' skin? a nice pale shade of Blue. 2) What color is Phantom Girl's skin? Caucasian 3) What color is Polar Boy's skin? Caucasian 4) What planet does Lightning Lad (comic character, not would-be editor) come from? Winath/Amarta, he gained his powers on the lightning planetoid of Korbal.

Read the latest. Better than the last dozen or so story wise and character wise, but the art was rough on the eyes.
With a more diverse cast, odd combinations and the reappearance of Tenz, it was more enjoyable, but like the past couple of issues, its a struggle to get enthusiastic about this Legion.
Again, I can't 100% say that this isn't partially because of my own boot-related biases rather than a strait-up unbiased critique.

S/LSH # 31 was the first Legion comic I've bought in three years; it's my first real exposure to the threeboot.
So, what did I find? A fraction of a story about a group of squabbling characters with familiar names but who are otherwise unrecognizable. (I did like some of the new costumes, though.)
Some may say that this wasn't a good issue to "jump in," but it made me long for the days when comics publishers knew that every issue was somebody's first. Worse, it made me long for the days when you could pick up a comic book for one third of the cost and get more story than just a "prologue." It also made me long for the days when Legionnaires were actually likeable and liked each other, even though they may have argued from time to time.
Reflecting back on the things the Legion used to be is not the experience I wanted. I truly wanted to find something -- anything -- in this comic to like. It's been a long time since I've followed the Legion and I miss my old friends.
Sadly, they weren't to be found here.

However, our "old friends" can be currently found in the pages of the Justice League...strange isn't it?!?

But, unfortunately, as often happens when you meet "old friends", they don't really seem to be the same people I once knew at all.

I can deal with "old friends" changing over the years, it comes with the natural progression of character development. look how Ayla Ranzz changed over the years from her initial introduction for example. What I can't deal with is new characters masquerading as old friends, as if the originals never existed.

Yeah, but a number of the changes in Lightning Saga seem less of the "natural progression" variety and more of the "Everything you believed about me was wrong" variety.
I'm fine with "I've bought a house and have two kids now!"
I'm not so cool with, "By the way, I was cheating with your girlfriend the whole time we knew each other."

That's kind of how I felt after seeing Karate Kid and Sensor Girl together. I must say, though, that I've enjoyed the pages that have been posted here. (I loved the monitor screen shot of Adventure # 312, complete with Superboy's (?) arm raising a lightning rod.) But it's hard to get a sense of what's happening, except that the Legionnaires themselves don't know what's happened to them. Still, maybe there's hope.

To Nightcrawler and Lightning Lad:
You guys did great on the editorial quiz! Of course, you DID abide by the Legion World Honor System and not copy off of each other's posts, didn't you?
As far as I am concerned, you both exceedingly qualify for the Legion editor job, and the sooner you're on it, the better.

You have a point Eryk...I don't mind change, but don't pull a DALLAS "shower scene" on me and tell me everything I thought was true was actually a dream! There is/was too much history with the LSH to pull that kind of crap...hence all of the stupid reboots!!!

Some things Mr. Bedard posted at his CBR forum that don't seem to be anywhere else (beware mild spoilers): A thousand years from now, people do everything 110% -- even voting!
in the current day, I apparently do my math at about a 10% level.
That mistake is purely mine. Don't know why I didn't check it, but maybe this is why I write for a living, instead of doing rocket science!
On the other hand, my son is on his math bowl team, so maybe that stuff skips a generation. invisible Kid is in my stories, but not a feature player, alas.
Brainac 5 is central to my 6 issues. We also get a spotlight on Star Boy, Sun Boy and Mekt Ranzz, then on Timber Wolf, Atom Girl and Shadow Lass, and finally on Supergirl, Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl.
I'm being true to the current version of the Legion, but there are lots of tips of the hat to previous ones. Some folks feel that the various incarnations of the Legion are incompatible. I don't. I love them all in their own way.
Hopefully, this will yield something you like.

I finally read this the other night...
Yeah, the switching of dialogue stuff is annoying, but I thought the art was fine enough. Not everyone can have the pop of Allred or Cooke or the snap of Coipel or the clean lines of Swan or Kitson. I'm looking forward to Dennis' run for sure, though.
Supergirl as leader? yawn Shoulda been Theena.
re: Tenzil's intro... balkers, I say thee NAY! It was fab. AND he wasn't purple or polka-dotted. HOORAY!!

So my 5 cents about #31:
I was shocked about the artwork, it was absolutely terrible. Typical guest artist stuff - I thought this kind of insult was over with the 90s...
Supergirl as leader, well... after how she was portrayed for most of her stay with the Legion, this is a very unlogical choice. She did not even know who she was and if she was dreaming. Now she shall lead a giant size team? Come on!
The whole story seemd rather lame, I hope this book can be saved but this issue does not fill me with big optimism...

Hi all, I haven't had a chance to read everyone elses posts yet (one of the joys of posting in 15 minutes slots at local library)but here are my thoughts - hopefully I don't just repeat others views.
Though I'm looking forward to this next stage in this legions story I have a few concerns-
What the Foxtrot is the editor doing? (Come to think of it, how many have we had now in the last few years?) Isn't the chap beside Mekt when Kara calls the meeting one of the original (therefore DEAD) Wanderers? Is he Immorto (however its spelled)then? Also, is that Brin next to Garth - who later is shown getting out of his sickbed? Am confused!
The art was okay but the inking was scrappy, which is a pity.
Superduper Girl as leader is simply daft IMO, get Shady or Brainy in that post soon as please!
Nice to see a mystery or two brewing - who is causing the mischief on Lallor? Who is the big heaed dude in the Gobi rain forest? What's going on on Winath the Tenzil has to be there? BTW I liked Tenzils introduction - very Silver Age I thought.
Hopefully we'll see lots of soap opera moments with the three teams off adventuring and the groups left behind - how will Terror Firma react with sun boy being away? How will the wanderers behave without Mekt there to lord it up over them? The possibilities are great, lets hope they aren't squandered! Ummmm, thats about it, I'll wait a couple of months before I pass judgement on the writing but hope that this will be a good (new) start to the team.
Legion Worlds NINE - wait, there's even more ongoing amazing adventures? Yup, and you'll only find them in the Bits o' Legionnaire Business Forum.

Well, at least you came up with new examples of bad editing to complain about...

Kinda puts a different light on what it's like to be a fill-in, I thought: Hey Rob,
Nice to meet ya,
First off thanks for being interested in my issue and being kind enough to check it out.
In response about some of the negative criticisms you've encountered, I really don't let stuff like that get to me. On issue 29 of Legion I was thrust into the middle of a story with a HUGE amount of characters that I never followed, nor did I have any reference for. ( plus 3 local comic stores were sold out of the issue I need for said reference) To clarify, I followed the Legion in the late 80's when Steve Lightle was doing the pencils and really dug that stuff. I also have some issues that Chris Sprouse did as well but I had no real exposure to Barry's run ( I can't afford to buy every comic on the stands I guess) But when I came on Mike Marts hired me for the fill ins and they, I believe, ( I could be wrong ) were trying to get everything together and were under the gun scheduling wise and to compound the problem. they were a bit slow getting reference to me (that's not any type of slag to them, Mike and Jeanine are great folks... it just was just a confluence of lots of things going on, I think!) so I had to work around:
a) not having proper reference for Some new legion members designs (like the new Sun Boy) the TERRA FIRMAS, The WANDERERS etc...(whew that's a lot of characters)
B) drawing my pages around what I had reference for.
C) wait for Barry to draw/ turn in pages in #30 so I new what I could and couldn't draw since I was drawing the issue before his last.
So I wasn't happy with everything I did, But I did my best with the opportunity on #29 that I had. But at the end of the day, the fact is, the Fans only get to see what's on the page...not the other business type difficulties behind the scenes.
I have great respect for the Legion and their history. I really dig the Cartoon and when I got the Ok from Mike to do the Fill-in for #31,
I was looking to redeem myself on that issue and do a good job.
So I started # 30 and was really hyped that I would be drawing Timberwolf, so everything was looking up. Well, midway through the issue while visiting friends from my days living in Blacksburg, VA., the unthinkable happened, An idiot walked into Va Tech and murdered 32 people at Va Tech while I was in the area. (I used to, for 10 years actually, live in Blacksburg. and knew alumni.)
Now I didn't know anybody there recently, I did know professors there and I actually was a guest speaker there a few times as well. So the timing was bizarre and I sorta for a few days went in to a bit of a depression----but I had a book to do, Thankfully, and that helped me get through.
But working on Legion and with Mike was a blast. I am thankful for every opportunity I got to draw it.
Were there things I wished I could have done better or differently......Oh yeah! ( one example being that I'm a fan of the classic Cockrum Timberwolf costume and was not a fan of Barry's design----that's just my personal taste) and I still wish I would've drawn them a bit younger looking (Stephen Wacker was the First to nail me on that LOL)
I do know there's a group of folks that didn't like my legion issues.....that's Ok ,it happens. I'm no Rob Liefeld fan either and I'm sure he's not losing sleep about it. But I do try to listen, and learn and go from there.
Kev I asked Kevin to come to Legion World and post, maybe he'll do it. I hope he's greeted with the courtesy that any creator who comes to this board deserves.
