She is currently on her home planet, tending to affairs of state, where she enjoys the admiration of her entire planet (a planet of cats of course). She shall be returning shortly, I'm sure!

Cobie, what's the difference between regular fanfics and Onevision fanfics?

The reason I ask is because if and when I decide to do spin-offs from Imperial Guard: The Series, I'm not sure whether I should start labeling them all Onevision.

Stealth,

A Onevision generally means a fanfic thread where the readers kindly hold off on all comments until the thread is complete, so there is no back and forth talking that might break up the narrative. A more general fanfiction would have comments from readers throughout (usually).

That being said, this 'rule' is largely ignored if not unknown by most people, to where there really is no difference b/t a Onevision and fanfic thread anymore.

A little history on 'Onevisions':
When the LMB first began in Spring 2000 (with myself, Lash, Spellbinder and some others), we posted as a group on a variety of topics in a variety of ways. Oddly enough, our discussions not only were about the Legion, but about ourselves as sort of psuedo-super heroes that were a bit bumbling, but lovable and heroic. This really exploded in the advent of Tag Team threads, which still goes on to this day in Bits (one poster continues the story from the last posters post, and eventually the thread goes into all kinds of directions). This was an LMB tradition from probably the second week or so. Being Legion fans and continuity nuts, we quickly adapted to the continuity that was created (as silly as it was) and explored some of these ideas more thoroughly

At the same time, others were posting great fanfic on the Legion and other characters. Still in its infancy, the LMB wanted to be more than just a rag-tag group of online posters, so we took a more focused direction on art during the earliest months of the LMB, and it was the first LMB LardLad that created 'Onevisions'.

His idea was that the poster would start a thread, and then post his story, but no one would comment on it until it was done. The guiding hand of one author, also allowed LMB authors to really focus on LMB-related stories and ideas and take it into a specific direciton, rather than the tag team stories, which could easily be pulled in another direction (which was part of the nature of them, despite some authors getting frustrated). Not to say that Onevisions are purely for LMB fanfic, since the earliest ones were all Legion centered (i.e. Chameleon, Garth & Imra, etc.) and later ones took in all different characters (Marvel Universe, etc.)

As the years have gone on, the Onevision moniker has come and gone in regards to the title of threads, often used by the earliest members of the LMB who remember it. Upon the creation of Legion World (Summer 2003), a resurgence of these was seen, by older posters like myself, and newer posters (newer at the time) like Numf-El. However, the rule of waiting until the story is over has really been forgotten.

So, basically, its your call if you want to use it, and I can wholeheartedly tell you go right ahead if you want, or hold off if you're not feeling it! It might make some posters wait until the story is over before they post (or they might just post in the Critics Corner thread) or it might draw in some posters to read your stuff who normally are too flustered by the sheer amount of reading material in this forum and don't know wehre to start.

(After a long post, I realize I've given no clear answer, but I try smile )

Quite the contrary, it's a very clear answer, and the details are a great help. Thanks, Cobie.

Up until now, I had assumed that "Onevision" was a term to indicate that the fanfic took place in the author's own little universe.

People are welcome to post feedback anytime during my fanfics. Including right now, while Imperial Guard: The Series is on hiatus until later this month. The first story arc ended a couple weeks ago, and I still haven't heard opinions on the ending.

I'm thinking that what I might do instead of labeling it Onevision is designate a particular Marvel Earth for it. I'll come up with a number, and then check marvunapp.com later to see if that number has been used yet.

So, Cobester, what's the status of Bevruck Jespers and Antequated Forms of Communication Lass after the Ggrgg/Psyonia War?

I actually have a great idea for a Bevruck Jespers, AFC Lass and Cobalt Kid story involving Ggrrgg that I'm dying to write in a Onevision someday.

Following the defeat of Ggrrgg by Cobalt Kid's triumvirate army and the Jectra Twins, the Ggrrggian warlords resumed their centuries old '3 Way War' with their neighboring planets, Kerissia (home of Princess Tarina) and Thynthia (home of the Mind Flayers). This three way war has been at a stalemate for almost a century, but thousands of lives are lost every year. Oh, and I usually end up changing the names and spellings of the two planets at war with Ggrrgg because I can never remember them.

Like Cobalt Kid, Antequated Forms of Communication Lass does not visit Ggrrgg often, although she is not an enemy of the state like Cobalt is. However, she is very anti-war in a planet that is renowned for its warlike culture. Little known fact: at the tender age of 14, ATF Lass was the girl who took Cobalt's virginity!

Bevruck Jespers, beloved movie star, is on much better terms with Ggrrgg and occassionally visits Weber's World (diplomatic center of the universe now that Earth has ceded from the UP) to promote universal peace. He often will state that he wishes there'd be peace in the region housing Ggrrgg, Kerissia and Thynthia, but he has never once declared that he wishes for anything less than a Ggrrggian victory in the centuries old war. Thus, ever the clever movie star charmer, he maintains both a politically correct stance in the UP at large, but also a symbol of a true Ggrrggian among his native people.

As for Cobalt Kid's stance with Ggrrgg, he remains an enemy of the state to be executed on sight and his father has legally disassociated himself with Cobalt. Cobalt Kid's primus pilus (second in command), Scipio Taltarus has informed Ggrrgg that should they ever enter Psyonia space again, the Triumvirate army of Cobalt Kid will attack them.

Both Spellbinder and Cobalt Kid, on the outs with their home planets (having forsaken their native planets out of loyalty to one another and the LMB) enjoyed a long vacation during the missing year following LMB Infinite Crisis, and the tabloids have been full of rumors that the two are much more serious than ever previously thought.

A great question Sharky, as the Retros have a very interesting history!

The Retros are a team of LMB villains created by Shark Lad in the ‘5 Years Later’ tag team story in the early part of the LMB’s first year (May 2000), which makes them older tan 98% of the rest of Legion World. They consist of: Beatnik Belly Dancer Boy, Hippie Hula Girl, Freaky Flapper Chick, the Mod Man, and Leave it to Beaver Larry.

Their first appearance being in the 5YL continuity thus makes their story slightly confusing and thus more interesting. So, I will give the real history version first:

In May 2000, as I’m sure you’ve all heard me say time and time again, the LMB had what is generally considered one of their best tag team stories, ‘Five Years Later’, which is naturally a take-off on the TMK Legion. In it, we actually have the very first appearance of the Retros—but even more, of Shark Lad also! We learn the Retros are a team of villains that have been enemies of the LMB throughout their history (and are co-villains in the story). Thus, we first see them in the future although we have yet to see them in the regular continuity.

As the LMB moved forward, Shark Lad appeared in continuity, and eventually, the Retros resurfaced in the various tag team threads, being mentioned here and there and showing up for group shots, two-post battles, etc. Their origin story and first appearance were never actually mentioned however (since most posters were often confused by the fact that they first appeared in a future continuity), so when I wrote the LMB timeline, I retroactively established their first two appearances, as seen here and here .

As most LMB concepts and villains went, there was a lull throughout year three tag team wise and year four consisted of mainly new enemies and concepts (b/c of new posters) so they were not seen for some time. It was during Year Five, when older posters such as myself, Shark Lad, Dev-Em and Bevis returned to posting (Bevis didn’t really return, but he had been less active) that the Retros returned in ‘The Return of Dev-Em’ storyline. They continue to show up here and there to this day, and I have scattered appearances of them retroactively throughout the timeline.

Thus, the Retros are Sharky’s creation in the very thread that he introduced himself to the LMB, and have been a mainstay villain ever since!

Roy, could you make it any more complicated?

Fine, I'll give you a brief breakdown, although it will take me a few posts and probably a few days:

‘The many loves, duties and struggles of Cobalt Kid’

Before the LMB
Cobalt Kid, born Desmonius Primus Julianus was born on the planet Ggrrgg, which is renowned in the galaxy as a war-based society that believes it should be actively conquering its neighbors which allows it to seek glory. Ggrrgg was at the time a part of the United Planets but has since had its membership revoked when it would not cease its war with its two neighboring planets Kerissia and Wykrithia (home of the Mind-Flyers), which is known as ‘The Long 3 Way War’, as it has been going on for over a century.

Born into an Equestrian family of long-standing ties to the oligarchic government, Cobalt Kid was trained in the arts of war and prepared for a long life of leading the armies and the Ggrrggian government to continued glory. In his seventh year, his father was named co-counsul for a ten year period. Cobalt Kid enrolled in the elite schools of warfare and prepared for his future life.

At age thirteen, Desmonius lost his virginity with the now famous Antiquated Forms of Communication Lass, a fact that only one other individual (his later friend Eryk Davis Ester) is aware of. This would set him on a path to loving and leaving as many women as he possibly could, which would later cause him to be infamous. The society of Ggrrgg actively encouraged this sort of behavior, especially among the higher classes, so at first this was seen as a good thing. Later, his mother began to worry as Desmonius approached this in a very different manner than usual Ggrrggian sexual debauchery, as he preferred to create and maintain some form of an emotional attachment to his partners. This led to a great deal of heartbreak with the many daughters of Ggrrgg, which led to further problems between Desmonius’ parents and their political allies. This minor notion is believed by a small few to be the reason why his many lovers over the years have looked at him so fondly.

At age sixteen a fourteen, a major change occurred, as Desmonius gained a tutor that was trained in philosophy and science. This was formerly a great man that became a slave to Desmonius’ father, and he began to change the way Desmonius thought about the world. Soon, within a short period of time, Desmonius became more inclined to adhere to such things as philosophy, virtue, science, mathematics and especially history. This is where Desmonius became aware and pleased with the term and element ‘Cobalt’. Even more, he began to see the warlike society of Ggrrgg to be distasteful and a very malicious thing on the universe. Upon speaking of this with his parents, he grew more and more apart from them. Finally, when his father ordered the execution of all the slaves of the city his mentor hailed from, simply as a show of force to quiet a rebellion, Desmonius went into a fury upon learning his mentor was executed. He confronted his father and prepared to kill him, only to be stabbed in the back by his own mother.

Details are skewed and blurry of the next two years of Desmonius’ life, but he eventually ended up at the United Planets Institute of Science and Mathematics, the widely excepted greatest scientific institute in the known universe. His love for science and mathematics allowed him to maintain acceptable grades, but he was never truly enthralled with those ideals as he was with history, philosophy and most importantly, women. Many times he was almost thrown out of the university for ‘subverting the female population’. His roommate and best friend, Todd, was widely excepted to be the greatest scientific mind in the university, and had gained the nickname ‘Tsarin’ because of his Tromium heritage. While Tsarin helped him with his grades, Desmonius helped Tsarin with his love life (which did not include women).

During an experiment with Tsarin, Desmonius accidentally was pulled into an electro-magnetic reactor that caused him to be teleported to a previously undiscovered dimension that poured the energy into him. This energy gave him immense magnetic powers that allowed him to harness the electro-magnetic spectrum in a variety of ways, based solely on his willpower. With Tsarin’s help he began to harness these powers. Though the reason why the experiment went wrong was never discovered, Desmonius later believed it to be the work of a professor at the university, Dr. Albert Hoffman, who had taken an interest in the two students. Dr. Hoffman was widely renowned for his work in the field of hallucinogenics and the creation of a LSD-laced poison for the military, before such things were banned by the Weber’s World Conventions.

It was during this period of time that the LMB formed, very quickly. Within a matter of days, LardLad, Shadowplay in Candlelight Lass and Lash Lad formed the LMB, only to be rounded out by Desmonius and Tsarin when they stopped an assassination attempt on R Engine Joe Brande. Before anyone could figure out what happened, Desmonius and Tsarin helped found the new Legion of Message Board Posters, taking on the names Cobalt Kid and Tsarin Lad respectively.

Year One of the LMB
Cobalt Kid, as a founder of the LMB, quickly became influential on all the various things the LMB went through in the early years of its existence, which do not need to be listed here, as they are readily available elsewhere. At this time, the LMB was stationed on Earth. He was on most missions, involved with most tryouts and became fast friends with most LMBers. He was widely known as one of those LMBers that was friends with most of the rest of the membership, and was widely liked. Many of his early friends remained some of his best: LardLad, Lash Lad, Loser Lad, Crusader, Beagle Boy, Grey Birdboy, Rhino, Looks that Kill Lad, Dev-Em, Sketch Lad, Seahorse and slightly later Lucien Lad, Shark Lad and Faraway Lad. Cobalt was the youngest member of the early LMB by at least a year or so, and was often (and still to this day by some) seen as the collective ‘younger brother of the LMB’. Two of his best friends, LardLad and Lash Lad often encouraged and tutored Cobalt in how to have fun and exhibit wild behavior.

During these early months, his sexual debauchery and drinking and crazy ways helped endear him to the rest of the LMB. This, of course, was the early LMB, known most famously for being extremely debaucherous and out of control, before they matured and somewhat calmed down in later years. Cobalt was at the forefront for such things, and as a heterosexual male in a largely homosexual organization, gained a reputation for being a ladies man. During this time he met his first actual girlfriend, named Debauchery Damsel by the press for her own debaucherous ways. They had an ongoing relationship that did not involve commitment, which Cobalt preferred (she had no powers of course and was not a member of the LMB). One other girlfriend Cobalt had during this period was a Carggite Gymnast introduced to him by his good friend Loser Lad, who dated the girl’s sister. Cobalt and her had an on again off again fling for some time during this period, although it ended when Loser Lad ultimately broke out with a case of Carggite crabs, causing a major scare that led many Carggites to leave Earth for a time.

In addition to those two girlfriends, Cobalt was infamous for having flings with females of questionable character, which often caused them to become enemies and nemesis for the LMB later. Examples of this are Dessert Rose, who blamed one of the LMB for fathering her child (year later to be revealed to be Cobalt), the Amazing Cans, the Female Furies, and a host of others. Finally, Lard Lad publicly lamented “will Cobalt’s drinking and whoring ever NOT come back to bite on us on the ass?”. Unfortunately, it would, and thrice fold, as not soon after Lash Lad introduced him to his third girlfriend of this period, Princess Kristina Aguilera, whose infamous distaste for using birth control gave her the moniker (courtesy of the early notoriously distasteful LMB) ‘Princess No-Protection’. Being immune to all sexually transmitted diseases (as Cobalt, as a Ggrrgian is) and not being able to have children until she reached her 40th year (as all natives of her planet), she had no need for it, and her long-term open relationship with Cobalt encouraged him to feel this way too. From here on in, he would often forget to use protection. Also of note was this was the first princess of member of a royal family that Cobalt would date, but would not be the last. Both Princess No-Protection and Debauchery Damsel would be his ‘side girls’ for the next two years.

During this time in the LMB, a variety of other things happened regarding his duties in the LMB:

- The first leadership elections were held and Cobalt Kid was elected co-deputy leader, along with Shady, to LardLad’s first leader.

- In a mission to find the missing Goon Boy, Lash Lad and Cobalt Kid went on a secret espionage mission that led to him being named by the LMB as ‘Leader of the Espionage Squad for life’, which would later be used to justify his role as Chief of Security on Legion World. Cobalt would refer to this office many times throughout his terms as an LMBer.

- Cobalt Kid was approached by his father to return to Ggrrgg, only to learn that his father was attempting to trick him into coming home and being used as a weapon against Ggrrgg’s enemies in the ‘Long 3 Way War’. Cobalt refused and was promptly named an enemy of Ggrrgg and had his citizenship rejected. He then changed his legal name from Desmonius Primus Julianus to ‘Cobaltus Primus Julianus’ (as the first name among Ggrrgians is the family name). Still, many of his old friends still call him ‘Des’. Mostly, fellow LMBers call him ‘Cobie’, ‘Cobalt’, ‘CK’, or some even have special names for him (I’m looking at you Crujeckie laugh ). Unfortunately for Cobalt, during this renewed war on Ggrrgg, his mother was killed during the battle, and he forever retained that guilt of not being there (coupled with the fact that he never spoke to her again after she stabbed him). Secretly and unknown to any other LMBer, he asked his father if he could return to help, but his father said they did not want him anymore. Cobalt remained a citizen of no location for the rest of his lifetime until the creation of Legion World.

- Cobalt began getting approached by two beings: one a barbarian Cobalt jokingly named “Dark Conan” and the other his former professor, Dr. Albert Hoffman, who Cobalt also jokingly called ‘The Pious One’. Cobalt at first was unsure of their intentions, only that it related to his origin and powers.

Space Tart
During the infamous road trips that Cobalt instigated, the LMB met Fiona Orange, and she was inducted into their membership as Space Tart.

Immediately, Space Tart became the first true love of Cobalt’s life, and he for hers. She was barely 16 at the time, but the two quickly became inseparable—most notably for their intense love-making and even more intense fighting. They were the first real ‘couple’ of the LMB, and neither could not explain why the other was so important to them. The instantly were a ‘boyfriend/girlfriend’ couple, and for the first time in both their lives, treated a relationship as such. Although mainly based on sex and fun, it turned into a true loving and caring relationship.

However, both were young, attractive and full of energy, and neither had real intentions to be monogamous. In fact, Space Tart was very similar to Cobalt Kid, and they both had a variety of flings on the side. Usually, it appeared that neither truly cared, as it was the early ‘binge-drinking, free-loving LMB’. However, upon a closer examination, it was apparent that both did indeed care.

Space Tart’s effect on Cobalt’s life was so complete, that his other two ‘ladies on the side’ Debauchery Damsel and Princess No-Protection, were seen less and less.

End of Year One
Year One of the LMB continued very much according to general history books. Cobalt Kid remained part of the core unit of LMBers, had a famously passionate love affair with Space Tart and continued to build his friendships, as well as the LMB in general. However, at the close of Year One, Dr. Albert Hoffman and Dark Conan made their move. As explained elsewhere, they tricked Cobalt into joining them, to capture him and learn the secrets of his trip to that unexplored dimension. In doing so, they hideously tortured him and mentally broke him down in a way that he never thought possible. For two months this continued, until he finally escaped after a brief battle, and reappeared among the LMB, already in their year two.

Year Two
Cobalt’s return in early year two (during Lash Lad’s term) was met with much joy and happiness among his friends. However a few things occurred while he was away and upon his return:

- Tsarin Lad, his oldest friend, had been killed in battle. Cobalt was devastated and felt guilty about not being there.

- Space Tart was hurt by his disappearance and he refused to talk to her about it, feeling hurt and embarrassed.

- In fact, he refused to talk to anyone, and became different—very distant from the rest of the LMB. Throughout this term and the following (Loser Lad’s), he would begin to miss missions and show up less and less.

- He continued his affairs with Debauchery Damsel and Princess No-Protection, but eventually grew weary of their company and ended the relationships. Both left Earth hurt and heart-broken.

Months go by…

- Occasionally, he would remerge as the old Cobie—the ‘drinking, womanizing stud’, and he had flings with various new members of the LMB: Foxy Roxy, Lexbose, Globe Girl, and various locals living on Earth. This often angered Space Tart.

- It was during this time that a new LMBer joined the fold: the sister of Crusader, Princess Crujectra. Her involvement with the LMB was felt immediately and she became an important part. In regards to Cobalt Kid, however, she and he did not interact much early on, because of his various bouts of depression and missing missions. They had of course heard of each other before, but had never met.

click to enlarge click to enlarge

- Cobalt learns Tsarin Lad survived and lived on the form of Mystery Lad, albeit very differently. Mystery Lad did not rejoin the LMB, although Cobalt felt somewhat relieved.

- Cobalt worsened and worsened and fewer and fewer LMBers ever saw him, other than Space Tart, LardLad and Lash Lad.

- Debauchery Damsel reenters Cobalt Kid’s life and looks to rekindle the old flame. However, she has a dark secret, as Cobalt learns that she has been dealing with the Dominion in the past to make money. Cobalt agrees to help her get away from them, but they capture him. In the end, she sacrifices herself to save him, and her body is left mindless because of it. Cobalt Kid is left reeling and Space Tart is angered by this, leaving Cobalt and Spacey’s relationship further deteriorating.

- In the final weeks of Loser Lad's term, Cobalt Kid disappears entirely with no explanation given at all. Many LMBers are concerned, although many don't find this unusual, given Cobalt's sporadic appearances over the last few months. Space Tart is especially angry and sees this as the culmination of her relationship going sour with Cobalt. What actually happened, unbeknownst to the LMB, was that Cobalt was once again kidnapped by Dark Conan and the Pious One (Dr. Albert Hoffman), and would remain kidnapped for some time under heavy torture once more. This time, Cobalt remains a prisoner for months upon months until he finally breaks free. Having previously destroyed the Pious One’s body in their last battle and making him a sentient only living as a body-less entity in the Hallucinogenic dimension, Cobalt is able to trick him into entering the lifeless body of Debauchery Damsel (Hoffman believed he’d entering Cobalt’s body), and afterwards is able to capture them both. He then hands them off to the authorities, although it took him such a long time to do so that the immense toll it took on him weary.

Year Three
Cobalt reemerges in the LMB’s Year Three to find a greatly changed LMB. It takes some time at first to get adjusted again, but this time he’s much quicker to get back to normal—in fact, he’s much more like his old ‘early days’ self and gets back to his ‘basics’: super-heroing, drinking and womanizing. His return comes right in the middle of a mission involving their enemy Cali Flower, and the LMB are shocked to find Cobalt has solved the case by seducing her in his old style. As the LMB continues to grow, so does Cobalt, and he becomes fast friends with LMBers Dedman, STU, Ultra Matt, Yellow Kid and Poverty Lad.

At first Space Tart refuses to talk to him and generally ignores him. Knowing her very well and how she’ll react, he does the same.

The new LMBer Homecoming Queen becomes a mystery, and Cobalt Kid and his pal Poverty Lad take it upon themselves to solve the mystery of just who she is. Its during this time that a rumored fling b/t Homecoming Queen and Cobalt occurred, but that remains rumor. At this time, the famous ‘cheerleader outfit/sheep incident occurred’.

Princess Crujectra and Cobalt Kid finally get to know each other more, although Crujectra had a then current boyfriend (STU), and had been fore-warned about Cobalt’s infamous behavior. Still, a steady flirtation arises.

During this time Cobalt Kid also meets a young woman who would become one of his best friends and favorite lovers. Jailbait Lass, Lolita to her friends, is part of a race who age only one year for every four years, starting at age sixteen. When she met Cobalt, she was sixteen (he was twenty) and he rescued her from a band of space-pirates trying to capture and enslave her and her companions. They took an immediately liking to each other and had a fling. Unforunately for her, she is not able to work in much of the UP, as she is too young, despite her mind aging faster than her body. Thus, it was Cobalt Kid who was able to find her a job. Much later, she would come to Legion World and join him, and become his personal assistant at the Security Office and all of his various jobs (working directly for him). The two have a bond most do not understand and are good friends and loyal business partners. She is usually very quiet, and does not speak to most of the LMB besides Cobalt.

Space Tart finally relents and starts talking to Cobalt again, only to find he’s really like his old self. The two become friends again and then quickly lovers. Soon, they are back to their old relationship and are a couple, but as in the old days, they are not monogamous.

One other female LMBer became an important part of Cobalt’s life at this time, although he wouldn’t really know the extent of it until much later. Umber had journeyed to Earth-1 and joined the LMB and Cobalt became friends with her. Guided by the lucklords, he never actually slept with her, although he came close to hitting on her a few times. Thankfully he did not, as it was revealed *years later* that she is actually his daughter, sent back in time. The full extent of her origin, parentage and story will be covered elsewhere. But it was at this time that Umber and Cobalt became familiar with each other.

The End of Year Three
It was towards the end of Year Three that things for Cobalt changed dramatically once again. In the mission later called “The Children of the LMB”, we learn that the Time Mouse Trapper has engineered a way to get back the LMB through their children. It is here that its revealed that Cobalt had a child with Debauchery Damsel before her death that became the LMB enemy ‘The Archduke of Time’, who the LMB had fought during Cobalt’s absence. Also, to the absolute horror of Cobalt Kid and Space Tart, Spacey becomes pregnant and carries to term Ulgorth, the Demon, who wreaks hell on the universe until Spacey and Cobalt are forced to destroy him. This was a larger plot by the Time Mouse Trapper, but it is revealed that Cobalt’s arch enemy Dr. Albert Hoffman struck a deal with the Trapper that cursed Cobalt Kid horribly: he would never be able to see his children raised before his own eyes, and if they did, they would become demons, evil robots or future world conquerors. This curse would haunt Cobalt and the LMB for the rest of their existence. It also explains why Cobalt’s baby with Dessert Rose years earlier turned out to be an evil Robot, as the Time Mouse Trapper went back in time to influence it. Many also note that its not only this, but Lash Lad’s introduction to Princess No-Protection years earlier that when combined cause so much grief.

Most importantly this was so devastating to Cobalt and Spacey that they were hurt beyond belief, and truly took refuge in each other’s arms and in each other’s love. For the first time, Cobalt and Spacey put aside all the fun and debauchery and truly committed to each other and started a monogamous relationship based on mutual respect and love.

Year Four
Cobalt, at peace with his horrible ordeals and feeling good about his relationship with Spacey ran for LMB leader for the first time, and to his surprise—he won! So it was at the start of Year Four that Cobalt added ‘LMB Leader’ to his growing resume of offices held by the LMB. His term was generally a successful and peaceful term.

Throughout the early months of Year Four, Cobalt and Spacey continue to enjoy a wonderful relationship. It is during this period that things become so good, that as Cobalt’s term as leader ends, he and Spacey slow down their time with the LMB and to the surprise of everyone, become engaged!

The Wedding of Cobalt Kid and Space Tart - Despite all of the possible trouble, the LMB celebrate one of the most exciting times in its history, as two of their most beloved members finally get married! Longtime LMB sweethearts Cobalt Kid and Space Tart their unity with a marriage, per Space Tart’s home tradition. All the LMBers past and present that could be reached attended the wedding, and for one brief week, all seemed right in the universe for the LMB.

All would seem right only briefly however, as the LMB became embroiled in a series of hard times. Dealt with mostly by the rest of the LMB, Cobalt still went on some missions, often quieter ones such as diplomatic ones. It was during this time that Cobalt Kid for the final time was captured by Dark Conan and Dr. Albert Hoffman, who made it look like a bombing. The LMB believed Cobalt Kid to have been killed and honored him so. Space Tart was devastated. For over a year, Cobalt would remain away. He was tortured worse than ever before, but mentally, he would not break. He waited and waited, and bided his time. Finally, when the time was right, he murdered Dark Conan and Dr. Albert Hoffman, and then completely destroyed the uninhabited hallucinogen dimension. Upon his re-emergence, all of his past caught up to him and he became in an almost insane state of mind, unable to get his bearings, traveling through space for a time. It had been over a year.

During Cobalt’s last absence, the LMB changed more than ever before: Earth split from the UP and the LMB abandoned it, LMB on the Run, LMB Lost, the creation of Legion World, major changes in the LMB roster, and most importantly to Cobalt: Space Tart made the ultimate sacrifice and died defending the LMB. Believing she’d see Cobalt once again, she died peacefully.

Year Five
While the LMB became immersed in life on Legion World, it took Cobalt many months to make it there. This period in his life is best chronicled in ‘The History of the Triumvirate’. In summary: upon re-entering the galaxy, he found the world at war, and Barbarian Invasions throughout the UP. Slightly going through a period of brief insanity following his torture he began defending these invaded planets and using his magnetism to destroy whole armies. Gathering a group of followers out of nomadic warriors escaping the armies of the barbarians that had taken over their planets, he began building an army, with the help of strategic masters and excellent warriors. In his deranged state, Cobalt harkened back to his Ggrrggian heritage and schooling and used the superior Ggrrggian war tactics and strategies to win many victories. His continual victories caused more warriors to seek him out, as his name was still widely recognized (being a famous LMBer). Other armies challenged him for leadership of a loose band of misfit armies, and Cobalt would then challenge their leader and defeat them in hand to hand combat, until he had amassed a major military force. Eventually, it was two military minds, Scipio and Martyrious that helped him begin organizing a real army. The Army of Cobalt Kid became renowned for its discipline, swiftness and classical style, as well as being loyal to no planet or galaxy, only Cobalt Kid himself. Upon meeting Crusader, his old friend and fellow LMBer, Cobalt took some time to get ahold of himself and work out all the stress and guilt he felt over his torture via Crusader’s telepathy. Finally restored to normal, and aware of recent history of the LMB, Cobalt took his loyal army to Legion World. There he joined Eryk Davis Ester’s Legion World Army in a war against the Naturals, where their second in commands were traded—Cobalt Kid received Faraway Lad, and Eryk Davis Ester received Martyrious, who brought with him the fundamental notion that Eryk’s army was loyal to Eryk, not Legion World (which stuck following Marytrious noble suicide in front of the Naturals leadership). At the close of the war, Grey Birdboy brought his own army of Starhavenites and the three armies decimated the Naturals. Following this, the armies hailed there generals and named them the Legion World Triumvirate. The there then used their personal armies to protect Legion World ever since.

Cobalt Kid finally returns to the LMB, and visits Legion World for the first time. He comes home a hero to a shocked LMB who thought him dead, and is honored by the normal non-LMB citizens of Legion World as a Triumvir. Finally finding time to join his friends, he is quietly told by Lash Lad and Poverty Lad that Space Tart died in his absence. He quickly falls into a depression and removes himself from public life.

Two things finally get Cobalt to re-emerge gain:
(1) Then current deputy Leader, Eryk Davis Ester, who was also his fellow Triumvir, visits Cobalt Kid many times to discuss what to do about the Triumvirate and the Barbarian Invasions on the United Planets. These talks ignite a fire in Cobalt again, and they make plans with Greybird to use the Triumvirate to win back the United Planets from the Barbarians (who were no means an allied force). This becomes the main goal of the Triumvirate for the next two years, which they eventually succeed in doing.
(2) The most important however, is that Princess Crujectra, then leader of the LMB and co-founder of Legion World, comes to Cobalt with hopes that he not only will end his depression, but might serve Legion World in a way that few could. At this time in Legion World history there were a variety of malcontents on planet, and it was known as a time of great conspiracies. To help stem this, Crujectra asked Cobalt to resume his role as Espionage Squad Leader, which he still maintained and help out the populace. Knowing full well that Cobalt’s greatest occupation is that of ‘super-hero’, she told him to make it a public thing, to help calm the fears of the people.

It was then that Cobalt Kid created the Office of Security to help stem these fears (see the full history for exactly how many subversive elements there were at this time). Princess Crujectra, LMB Leader, backed him, and Nightcrawler, Legion World Founder, showed a public display of support by donating a building for him. Cobalt used his title of “Espionage Squad leader for life” in the LMB to justify his reformed title of “Chief of Security for life” in the LMB and on Legion World. Immediately, that day, Cobalt Kid and Space Ranger helped quell a rising rebellion by Thora of Taltar (more on her in a minute) and saved Super Lad Kid from an attack by Giant Robotic Lesbian. As Super Lad Kid was a student at Tarik the Mute’s subversive academy, Cobalt made him swear to return to the side of good and help bust the academy up, and Super Lad Kid agreed. The Emerald Empress, looking to prove that she too was on the side of good, joined them, and thus the new Office of Security broke up Tarik the Mute’s academy. Thus, the earliest Security Office was formed: Cobalt Kid (Chief of Security), Space Ranger (Deputy Chief of Security), Emerald Empress and Super Lad Kid.

Over the next three years, various other LMBers would join the Office of Security and become great friends with Cobalt Kid.

Cobalt Kid was immediately back in action and virtually everywhere on Legion World. The next few weeks were hectic as various ordeals occurred and the streets were cleaned up.

In keeping up with tradition, Cobalt began a numerous amount of relationships on Legion World:

The Emerald Empress, although there’s was a mutually fun affair. The Empress’ true paramour would be Space Ranger which would grow over time.

Mantis, who worked as a waitress at SHAKES, and was connected to Danny Blaine/Mattropolis (in that they could not share the same space in one reality as the other). She too had a relationship with Space Ranger.

Kara, the cousin of Icefyre, who became Cobalt Kid’s girlfriend for a period of time during this era. Shown here as a pitcher on Cobalt’s mug at SHAKES for a time.

Further, working as Chief of Security with Princess Crujectra (then current leader), Cobalt and Crujeckie found themselves both working together for the first time when neither had a monogamous relationship. A heavy flirtation resumed and passion often led to one thing. Crujectra had many suitors however (Boy with Ultra Powers and later Loser Lad upon his return) and Cobalt many girlfriends, so nothing truly serious came of it yet.

Also during this time, Jailbait Lass became aware of Cobalt Kid’s apparent return from the dead and finally journeyed to Legion World to join him. It was now that she became his administrative assistant.

One female who was not a girlfriend to Cobalt Kid, but became a good friend of his was Arachne. She eventually joined the Security Office (under STU’s recommendation) and after a long term of great duty to Legion World, Cobalt made her his personal body guard, which she still is to this day.

On the male side of things, Cobalt quickly became great friends with many Legion Worlders, who are too numerous to list. This was a time most noted by late nights at SHAKES as Legion World got to know itself.

Thora
As noted above, Cobalt Kid and Space Ranger helped lead a charge against the invading Taltarans on the first night of the Security Office. It should be noted that the final negociations came down to Thora of Taltar and Cobalt Kid meeting in his office to discuss the terms. Using his charm to pour it on, Cobalt convinced Thora to leave Legion World. Feeling a mutual attraction, and being one to take what she wants, Thora made the terms more than a simple retreat and the two enjoyed a night of wild passion. Thora left soon after.

However, it was later learned that this night in question caused Thora to be pregnant (and is actually the night LMBer Umber was conceived). Thora returned to Legion World pregnant and demanded they hand over Cobalt Kid or they’d invade (and promised to raise their daughter as a man-hating female or a slave male). Once again, Lash Lad publicly lamented about introducing Cobie to Princess No-Protection so long ago. While Legion World rallied to Cobalt’s defense, Space Ranger appeared to be kidnapped, and suddenly, the LMB were on the move!

An invasion of Taltar ensued, although unknown to any participants Phineas B. Fuddle secretly drugged them all, so its hard to distinguish what truly happened. But we know this: Thora gave birth to a young girl named Umber, and Cobalt was released from being forced to live on Taltar. The Triumvirate got involved in minor skirmish and Cobalt’s general Scipio became Scipio Taltarus.

In later years, it would be revealed that Umber was sent back in time in a freak accident to Earth-4, while her counterpart Amber (Homecoming Queen) was sent to Earth-1, thus Homecoming Queen is the daughter of the Earth-4 Thora and Cobalt Kid. Umber has no clue about her parentage, despite Cobalt trying to tell her many times.

Cobalt’s relationship stayed rocky for a long time, until it became obvious that the two actual started to enjoy each other’s company, though they’d never admit it. A few playful nights of passion followed, but nothing ever came of it.

Finally, the last notable mentions during Year Five:
- During the “The Dark Stu Saga”, Cobalt played a major part in defending Legion World, as did the armies of the Triumvirate. The Office of Security was subsequently set-up to depose a leader of the LMB should something similar ever happen again.

- Also during this time, Cobalt Kid made a fateful decision in a mission that may one day have major consequences. He found an opportunity to go through time and rescue Space Tart from death, which he decided to do, playing havoc on the universe. He saved her, but her mind couldn’t handle it, so he had her committed to a nunnery, and would continually check up on her. His sadness eased, but still painful, he knew that Space Tart was alive again. Unfortunately, he may have inadvertently passed on a chance to stop a great future threat to the LMB, Elagabolus.

- Cobalt had a fling with a girl named Anne who worked at Café Cramer. This girl would later have her own tumultuous history, that lead to her becoming Danger Damsel, one of Cobalt’s spies in other sectors of space.

- Following Stu’s term, Cobalt ran for LMB leader once more and actually won, albeit in the famous “Five-Way Tie”. He and the other Leader met and he was one of the three who decided to step down (with Poverty Lad and Icefyre), so Quislet and Varalent would be sole leaders (with Stoopid Cat as the deputy). Thus, however briefly, Cobalt Kid was leader of the LMB for a second time.

Year Six - Now

Year Six
Year six, in regards to Cobalt’s relationships with various offices of the LMB, started out badly, as he was constantly at odds with Reboot over his role as Chief of Security and Triumvirate, and how he could not lose those positions.

Cobalt Kid also founded the Legion World Bank with Princess Crujectra.

The Triumvirate during this period and the previous year became famous for building statues and created various monuments and parks.

Cobalt was part of the founding the ‘Real Estate Offices of Legion World’, which bought up the majority of available land. This office is known as “The Real Estate Offices of Greybird, Ester, Spiffany, Cobaltus and Jectra”.

It was during this time that Cobalt Kid became friends with, and then later partners as she joined the Security Office, the High Priestess Viviane. The two became especially close and flirtatious, and even may have hooked up on occasion, but that has never been confirmed (although many believe so, as much later, they married).

High Priestess Viviane

Cobalt Kid also was revealed to have had an affair with a woman named Golden Girl, who became embittered and an enemy of the LMB. It was then revealed that she became pregnant with Cobalt’s child (his fifth), and that child ended up being none other than fellow LMBer, Numf-El, sent back in time (and thus not turning evil). It was further revealed that Numf’s origin was much more complicated, and he was the child of many of the greatest warriors in the universe, but one just happened to be Cobalt Kid.

During Early Year Six, Cobalt Kid had a brief relationship with Miss Terious. Following this, his demon spawn combined with her own mystical origins led to her becoming pregnant: and then giving birth to ten children! Dubbed “Miss T’s Legion of Alt IDs”, they all acted on their own and were Cobalt’s children. Later, it would become even more confusing, as they all remerged into one body with Miss T herself to become Myriad—which basically meant they did not exist any longer. Hence, Cobalt often says he has had 6-15 children, as he is not sure if the ten actually counted.

Miss Terious (pre-Myriad)

During this point in time, Space Tart also finally re-emerged, back to her normal self. Cobalt overjoyed and the two quickly resumed their relationship, being still in love. At first, it was passionate and loving. But Cobalt had become too immersed with being Chief of Security, and that had become his life to Space Tart’s chagrin. Also, he had so many lovers and girlfriends on the side that Space Tart couldn’t help but get angry—and often, they were contacts for the Office of Security so he saw it as part of the job! Sparks began to fly and Space Tart herself went back out on the market. However, the two stayed married for quite some time (over another year). Sometimes they’d be loving and monogamous, and sometimes they would have multiple partners. Never again would they recapture what they had right before their apparent ‘deaths’.

It was during this time that Cobalt had a fling with Thora.

Another woman Cobalt dated for a brief period of time was Tiffany Spiffany, the young heiress to the Spiffany Empire. Although only really dating a few times and nothing serious, the two remained friends, separated by her going to Mayavale University far away and he being busy as Chief of Security (especially after an affair with Thora interrupted their date). But there are no ill feelings as they are both business partners at the Real Estate Offices.

Pagan Lass, the wife of Abin Quank was by no means one of Cobalt’s lovers, as the last thing Cobalt wanted was to arouse the fury of the entire House of Quank. However, upon learning of Abin’s terrible behavior with the High Priestess Viviane, she publicly invited Cobalt Kid to Thora’s Sadie Hawkin’s Dance the two were very scandalous that night. She also erected a second statue of Cobalt Kid to inspire Abin’s ire. Interesting enough, Space Tart went with Faraway Lad that night, causing more trouble in people’s marriages (causing a public lament that ‘Cobalt and Space Tart will ruin all of our relationships before the night is out’).

Pagan Lass

It was finally at the end of that summer that things slowed down and the various affairs that Cobalt was maintaining came to a halt. This was also a time of immense LMB activity and missions and they too slowed too. By the end of the summer, most of the relationships Cobalt had were ending, although he still maintained his loving relationship with his wife Space Tart, and flirtatious relationships with Princess Crujectra and High Priestess Viviane, which would continue throughout Year Six.

During this slower period among the LMB, Cobalt Kid helped create the first Supergirl Robot, who quickly fell in love with him. They had a brief human/robot affair, but she eventually became very religious and could no longer date the debaucherous Cobalt.

An annoyed Cobalt Kid went back to the drawing board with Mearl Dox, Master of the Universe, to create a second Supergirl Robot. This one they put in added features: father issues, overly emotionally, unable to communicate rationally in mornings, and horrible in balancing money. This Supergirl Robot turned out to be a huge success and quickly moved in with Cobalt and Spacey, who by this time all lived in Stu’s Mansion.

Don't know whether you're through with Cobalt's romantic history yet <yawn> wink , but I was wondering if you could tell us all about Captain Lightbulb and the Light Brigade (history, powers, etc.). I also am specifically interested in their post-Hot Summer Nights Trilogy activities that I may've missed out on during my long absence.

Thanks in advance!

Its the weekend, so I'm posting in between pre-gaming and bar-hopping, so I must be brief!

But, in short:

Since those big threads since then, Captain Lightbulb and the Light Brigade have appeared a handful of times. Most notablly are two that I can think of:

1) In the Ongoing tag thread in the portion 'The Great Cogaaad Saga', the Light Brigade and Kid Prime go on a suicide mission to destroy the Consortium of Giant Ants (or something) and it is subsequently known in history as "The Charge of the Light Brigade". They also witnessed Ant-Man (a giant ant that could shrink to the size of a man) die.

2) In Infinite Crisis, we learn (or re-learn) that the once Hypertime Bar is now the circuitry in Captain Lightbulb's speedo, so is forever immune to any retcons whatsoever with the speedo on. It also is the ultimate weapon against crisis/entropy/reality altering attacks (which, yawn, I hope we're done with for the rest of the decade in real life time smile ).

The Light Brigade hasn't had too many changes since their earliest appearances, and despite the one traitor then, the line-up remained the same (although Eryk has now hinted that its different).

Captain Lightbulb's origin is slightly in question, but can easily be explained. Eryk, of course, could handle this best.

Oh, on the Hypertime Bar thing: I think we've established now that it can never again become the Hypertime Bar, which is good, because if someone is killed there, they die forever. No retcons or author can change it.

It's been a while since we've given Cobie a challenge, so here goes:

Not counting some of the more promiscuous characters' "hookups", how many in-continuity LMB romances do we know of (including an LMBer and a non-LMBer/Alt/GenChar)?

The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."

When was Shadowplay in Candlelight Lass last heard from? Has there been an explanation for her absence?

Actually Sharky, Shady was recently a major player in our tag team Omnia mutantur nos et mutamur in illis (majority of her parts were written by LardLad). Shady actually still lives on Earth (where the LMB are considered enemies of the state), using her powers to help boost the morale of the conquered people there. She has recently been joined by Hummer Lass, who went through some very difficult times in the above mentioned link. She is currently an in-active LMBer.

In real life, she can occasionally be seen posting on the Legionnaires section of Legion World!

Now you’re asking a lot laugh Hook-ups, romances and flirtations have long been a tradition among the LMB from about the very first page of the very first thread, most likely between Lardy & Shady, or Lash & just about everyone else!

But if we can limit the definition, to romances, perhaps more to ‘Romantic Relationships’, where the people actually can call the other person ‘boyfriend’ or ‘girlfriend’ or something similar, we can probably get a fairly good list together. You’ll have to note then that some LMBers, such as Hrun the Barbarian, will have no entry since they’ve never been in a real ‘romantic relationship’. I’m not really sure if Lucien Lad, Kid Prime, Beagle Boy, etc.

Note – These will be excruciatingly abbreviated to readers, so feel free to add more if you like…
Note two – I’ll never get all of them, so don’t blame me laugh

Lardy
Lardy first began his career dating Leelee, LMB academy student Dazzle Lass, who ultimately met her end in battle. Lardy has also had a long time fling with Hummer Lass, though the nature of their relationship, while appearing to be little more than a mutually sexual one to the rest of us, is actually much deeper. Lardy was married briefly to Helen (Girl Girl), though that marriage was annulled. Most recently, Lardy has married Dru the Sorceress, longtime LMB enemy who had turned to the side of good.

Lash
Lash has had a long number of flirtations and affairs throughout his days as an LMBer. Just about half the team has indulged this. But actual romantic boyfriends may be limited to (1) Large Handsome, who became Middlefinger II, (2) Matt Damon, who Android Lash ultimately tried to destroy. And (3) Raging Bull, for a time.

Cobalt Kid
In brief, Cobalt has had these girlfriends (not flings): Antiquated Forms of Communication Lass, Carrggite Gymnist (unnamed), Sure Lee (Dean Lee’s cousin), Debauchery Damsel, Princess No-Protection, Jailbait Lass, Foxy Roxy, Kara (LW poster), Mantis, Thora (kind of), Danger Damsel, Frio and probably some more.
Cobalt has had children with: Debauchery Damsel, Space Tart, Dessert Rose (LMB villain), Golden Girl (LMB villain), Thora and Miss Terious/Myriad
Cobalt dated and was married to Space Tart for many years.
Cobalt was briefly married to the High Priestess Viviane
Cobalt has dated Spellbinder for many years now and the two are soul-linked, which ultimately is the same as marriage.

Spellbinder
Spellbinder has had serious relationships with Loser Lad, Ultra Matt and STU, and is now dating and soul-bound to Cobalt Kid.

Crusader
Crusader is married to LMB-Reservist Maxx

Loser Lad
Carggitte Gymnist’s sister, Spellbinder, the High Priestess Viviane, the Sorceress Morgause

Shark Lad
Has had various flings, most specifically Icefyre.

Faraway Lad and Gigglebot Girl
Longtime LMBer Faraway Lad married Gigglebot Girl, who also joined the LMB

STU (aka Iron Rat)
STU has had many girlfriends over the years as well, including Spellbinder for a time.

Lost in Lust Lad
Had a love affair (I believe) with G. Stallion, the Super-Hologram of Raging Bull.

Varalent and Semi-Transparent Fellow
Longtime love affair between these two LMBers

Eryk Davis Ester
Has often been linked to Kid Gender Stereotype Reversal II, Antiquated Forms of Communication Lass, and some others. Longtime rumors persist about a love between Eryk and Leap Year Lass, but to give those rumors any credence makes this poster risk his shins.

Leap Year Lass
Lester Spiffany. ‘Nuff said.

Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl
Longtime LMB married couple

Icefyre
Shark Lad, Italian Boy, many other flings

Danny Blaine/Mattropolis
Raging Bull specifically

Matlock
Longtime hero is married with nine children. He also traveled back in time on one mission and fathered Hrun with Hrun’s mother.

Abin Quank and Pagan Lass
Married couple, grandparents to Everyday Girl (whose actual parents have not been named). Abin strangely was the father of High Priestess Viviane’s daughter Divine Opal Janell, but that story is a bit long and confusing.

Space Ranger
Had flings with many, such as Mantis, but the real love of his life was the Emerald Empress. He had a brief relationship with Triplicate Girl, who was an alt ID body of Myriad (very confusing, also Cobalt Kid’s somehow daughter). Space Ranger was also referenced to have had Carggitte wives on his home planet, and may have been a bigamist.

Actor Lad
Engaged to Caliente

LMB Spectre
Though never seen, its often referenced that the LMB Spectre has a girlfriend.

High Priestess Viviane
It should at least be noted that although she never had a real relationship, she did have romances with Cobalt Kid, Loser Lad, Invisible Brainiac and Future.

Disaster Boy
Has DB ever really had a romance in LMB lore? I can’t recall now…

Rockhopper Lad
The love of Rocky’s life was Blaine Fey, from Earth-4, formerly Closeted Lad who became Opengly Gay Boy. Blaine was sadly killed during the Invasion.

Caliente
She is engaged to Actor Lad, but also has been rumored to have been with Tamper Lad. Currently, there are rumors about Lonestar Ranger attempting to force her to marry him that somehow relate to Frio.

Tamper Lad
Rumor abound about a possible love affair with Caliente during her initial days on Legion World. He is also oddly linked to Thora.

Frio
Briefly dated Cobalt Kid, though that may not be how she sees it.

Kid Marvel
Kid Marvel’s current boyfriend has popped up on occasion in LMB stories.

Hm…I’m a little disappointed in my list. I feel like I’ve left many out, but for the life of me can’t remember which. I’m sure someone will let me know laugh

Hey Cobie,

How many LMBers have met in real life? Who are they and how did it come about?

Lardy has also had a long time fling with Hummer Lass, though the nature of their relationship, while appearing to be little more than a mutually sexual one to the rest of us, is actually much deeper. Lardy was married briefly to Helen (Girl Girl), though that marriage was annulled. Most recently, Lardy has married Dru the Sorceress, longtime LMB enemy who had turned to the side of good.
Cobalt's summary is pretty decent, but Leelee was actually secretly murdered, and later replaced by, a villainess named Mordra, who is actually Dru's sister. Impersonating Leelee, Mordra carried on with Lardy as her while also bedding half the male LMBers. Years later, Mordra returned and bedded Lardy disguised as Hummer Lass, and conceived a child with him. See "Turning Point" Parts One and Two for all the gory details.

Trust me, Lardy's romantic tapestry has not fully played out just because he's married! My upcoming story "Smoke and Mirrors" will certainly add some wrinkles to it...

Still "Lardy" to my friends!

Cobie, how many LMBers--and I mean the characters, not the person behind them--have "real" names and how often do they differ from that of their creator? Of course my name is John and Rocky's is Eudyptes, but I'm guessing we're more the exception than the rule.

Also, if an LMBer has the same name as an actual comics character, is that character considered the same person in both continuities? For example, is the LMBer Lightning Lad named Garth or Scott in continuity?

The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."
