Just finished colouring this for fun and realised I didn't have anywhere to post it here smile [I'll repost other stuff I've done that I'm vaguely happy with later]

Honest feedback welcomed, but please, be gentle smile

Beautiful Wanda pic! The colors look spot on and I like the shine that's etched into her cape and costume. Gives the outfit a bit more depth instead of clothes painted on.

Looks great SoM. Love Wanda's hair. If I had to pick a nit it would be her face. The coloring there looks a bit heavy as if, where it a photo, she is wearing too much makeup. It washes out her features a bit.

Cool -- the last two are nice and moody. I'm glad you decided to start your own thread!

I like the moody ones best too, ESPECIALLY the Tasmia-on-black-background, very luminous, and very red-hair Zoe with the Eye...

But the Triad sketch is lovely, the colours go perfectly with the style and the white-purple-orange roses are superb.

The anti-moody: A shadowless (near enough) Mary Marvel pic smile [Few little bits that are "off", with line edges & the bottom left, but it's near enough to post]

I like it! I think non-moody is definitely more in-character for Mary Marvel.

In the interests of Thread Conservation, reviving this old thread to post an attempt at INKING I made on a Jeff Moy Kinetix image (it isn't 100% finished, but it's been lying for over a week with no progress, so I might as well post.)

Feedback is, as ever, appreciated - short of "tHAT SuCKZ" smile , of course]

Side-by-side with the original pencil scan I used:

Very nice and true to the pendils.. The only thing I could say needs a little work would be the hair flowing behind her, but that may be due to the fact that there is no coloring effects in it.. But believe me...tons better than I could do.

I'm so glad to see some of your work and not just blank spots!
I just knew they'd be fun!

I love your inking of Zoe, perfect, I think.
The Umbra's are all lovely and Wanda is fantastic!

Thank-you!

Tried inking another Moy, a She-Ra this time. I took on board what you said about the hair, Dev, so I tried something different there this time. I wasn't quite as faithful to the original pencils though smile

I would be happy to give an in-depth critique if you'd like, Reboot.

Overall, I say it's nice but needs some fine tuning. PLEASE keep it up!

Please do! Like I said, any critique other than a flat "It sUcKz" can only help. smile

The hair on She Ra looks better with the 'texture" you gave it.

Another one, Apparition this time (looking at it again, there are a few bits I'd tweak, but it's just about okay to post. And, no, I didn't downscale the original - that's the scan I worked from, in the size I found it):

'Boot, I think these all look great! The Tinya one is my favorite.

Do you have a specific computer program you use to ink?

With the Moy pics, I would think the natural inclination is a 'less is more' approach simply because his art always looks upbeat and bright. Is there a temptation to darken things up a bit?

Just The Gimp + a cheap graphics tablet.

I'm a tad confused on whether you mean (A) "Are you tempted to try non-Moy pics, by less upbeat artists?" or (B) "Are you tempted to make the Moy pics darker?"

For (A), the answer's "Sure, but I'm still learning/practicing (I've only taken four pics to relative completion, the first of which went badly enough that it's deleted forever smile ) & clean art like Moy's seems a bit easier to start with" and "I've got a lot more Moy pics handy than pictures by other artists".

For (B), not that much in the ones I've done - there's more hatching in the Apparition than the Kinetix, because it seemed to lend itself better, but there doesn't seem like much point in playing "against" the basic image. Maybe if I found a Moy picture that seemed to lend itself more to going darker, I would, but I can't see myself scratching up or otherwise heavily shadowing a picture like that Zoƫ soon.
