I think the question is, what is meant by "homeworld?" For example, if you asked my for my hometown, I could list where my parents were living when I was born, where I grew up and went to high school, or where I bought a home and live now.

IMHO, listing Garth's homeworld as "Trom" does not negate his having been born on Winath. It also does not necessarily negate the "most told origin story in all of comics."

In fact, given the threeboot raison d'etre for the Legion, it's possible that Garth is the runaway and Mekt is still happily tilling the soil back on the farm. Perhaps the family disowned him and he now claims Trom as his homeworld?

Read it just now, gonna comment and then go back and read this already-HUGE thread!

re: Garth-- Homeworld-- TROM? What's that all about? Why is it necessary?

Wolfkins is back. And he wears a trenchcoat. Not sure how practical that is for a battling acrobat, but it sure LOOKS kewl! Projectra must think so too.

Nice to see Garth & Imra hold their own against the villains.

Not sure I'm liking an Imra that communicates telepathy-only, it's creepy. But I *loved* her bad attitude! She's as wonderfully likeably unlikeable as ever!

So, Jo's burning Tasmia's bed? Yep, those two are pretty HOT...

Okay, so Brin was a nice step in the right direction, but... WHY oh WHY not use OTHER characters from the lore? XS was a well-liked character for years, is it necessary to intro some other unnamed spreedstress? No, not when seeing Jenni Ognats amongst those terrified teens would have thrilled so many.

With a Legion concept that allows for literally unlimited "membership", the only excuse I can think of for not using EVERYONE from the lore at one point or another-- especially when it would be so OBVIOUS and EASY to do so-- is... well, pure meanness or spite.

That gripe aside, the new characters will at least offer tons of fodder for us to play with here on Legion World!.... Like Eyeful Edwin on page one... and Acid Lad, Fast Lass, Kid Heavy-Grav and Degree Damsel amongst the Rimworld Legionnaires!

The villains were kinda generic, but have potential. Again, it would have been nice to see at least ONE familiar villainous face, even (ESPECIALLY, actully) an obscure one. I strongly disliked that one of them had Nightwind's powers.

Despite my gripes, I continue to enjoy the heck out of the new LSH! WaK rule!

Yes, yes, I understand that present-day police must not bow to political pressure in the day-to-day pursuit of justice, but they would never dare to dismiss the opinions of powerful politicians so blatently, especially to their faces.
Yeah the SP seems like a shady group. In issue 3, Micro Lad accuses the SP of having covered up past terriost attacks. Which made me wonder, how many other 'disturbing' things have the SP hidden. And in issue 1, Star Boy mentions that the SP must have covered up their attack on Legion HQ, because Invisible Lad wasn't aware of it.

So that is at least twice that the SP has been mentioned in covering up things. Seems like this land of Utopia is really one of controlled information, and repression. And what’s the deal with kids wired into the public service. I find it very chilling.

Lastly (sorry I tend to babble on) in the first issue, did anyone else notice that just when the opening shot says the fighting ended, there appeared to be a fleet of black helicopters over the city? I found that to be a rather chilling site.

Lash I agree with you 100% BUT Jenni may be one of the complicated ones. I love her personally but her connections may complicate things.

But as I read this issue I wonder if Waid decided to use the early members and then all new ones after that? Barry had to lobby for Brin. And Wildfire may be bigger part of the Legion than Brin or any of the early members ever were. I am hoping for Blok personally, Jacques Foccart, Dawnstar, Wildfire, Quislet and hopefully a few of the post boot. Which ones? Kid Quantum, Gates,? wink XS I love but her relatives may complicate things a tad.

More thoughts.

Saw Barry's answer that starting with #7 the covers will be more related to what's inside. Good!

SP's don't answer to the UP? General Toling4rd does state the UP is a young organization. The SPs may answer to EarthGov and it's allies.

White Witch? Didn't catch that. Yes! She looks like the cool version not like the boring version! Hope we see her and hope she isn't DG's sister.

That may very well be Cham's dad.

Trom sure is becoming interesting isn't it?

I like Saturn Girl uses JUST telepathy personally. I think in Jim Lee's sketches of the Legion that may have been hinted at. Personally I liked the more alien priestess look versus varsity cheerleader. I like how Waid/Kitson are trying to change some minor things in powers, etc. Imra using telepathy only is welcomed!

Love the lightning and "special effects" on the costumes like LL.

New problem? Aye. While I don't like Jo having problems with his powers it's a new hang up/problem. Can't knock it.

Bizarro Legion stuff scares me cause of it's silliness...but it looked and sounded kinda cool. Bizarro Sun Boy? Cool.

I liked Thibert's inks over Barry...LOTS! Barry has been very detailed...which is hard with such a large workload. Thibert has always been a detailed inker. NICE results.

Brin appears pretty fast. Low level of super strengths, agility and speed? Nice.

At the very least, the speedster could've been established as Mara Williams. That would have avoided the XS problems and re-used a character from Legion lore.

Agreed, Eryk-- that would have been very nice. She kind of looked like MAra, didn't she? "Rush" was her codename, wasn't it?

Jorg, I too liked how the "bizarro" Legionnaires looked-- that actually interested me and looked kewl, especially bizarro Shadow Lass!

If anything, I'd think her relatives would force her inclusion. You can scrap Gates or Monstress without much affecting the rest of the DCU; but if XS drops out of existence it alters a number of Flash and Impulse arcs.

Come to think of it, though, they may want that. Geoff Johns has basically soft-rebooted both Flash and Impulse/Kid Flash at this point, making them both more "gritty" and street-level...possibly close relatives in the far future don't fit his vision anymore.

If you can't get into the new LSH by this issue, you need to go see a professional about your clinical depression or something.

This issue kicked ass, plain and simple. Each installment is making me excited to read the next. Wacker and co. better be flaming the marketing department to get off their butts and promote this thing some more. LSH is hot, hot, hot!

I support Mark and Barry's decision not to use XS.

During the reboot, the writers slotted lots of pre-existing characters into minor roles just because they fit and it resulted in lots of legionnaires being watered down sloppy characters rather than the definitive, well thought out characters that many of WaK's legionnaires have so far been.

Examples include: Dreamer, Chemical King etc. Basically many of the characters that sucked during the reboot were originally used in small cameo type roles.

So, if they feel like using XS, they should introduce her in an issue showcasing her character and creating reader interest for her much like they did for Brin in LSH #5.

I have no idea who Mara Williams is.

Another thing XS brought besides popularity and a famous family? Color. Something else else the Legion needs very badly.

The speedster in this issue was not out of the 1950's America b/c she had pointy ears. A Star Trek alien. wink

And again speaking of future members I wonder if the next inductee will be a former character or a new one?

(Re: Flash stuff. I love Geoff Johns but question when he reverts things. I haven't picked up his Flash cause I'm not a fan of Kolins or Porter. But I hate the mind wiping the world so the hero can have a secret identity again. And Impulse's use of the name Kid Flash? Love his new costume but Impulse was a cooler name.)

From Chaim's Legion Help File:

Quote
Rush

Mara Williams is a friend of Celeste Rockfish who was kidnaped by the Dominators and experimented on. The Dominators spliced her DNA with that of Dawn and Don Allen, known as the Tornado Twins, accelerating her metabolism so that she could not interact with ordinary-speed people without great effort. She was brought to Quarantine, where Doctor Grafe created a vibration stabilizer which, attached to the back of her neck, would give her greater control over her metabolism. During a fight against Grimbor the Chainsman, the stabilizer was shattered by an energy-net and the stabilization effects were transferred to her own body, allowing her self-control (Legion of Super-Heroes (3rd series) # 51). Upon the Legion's recommendation, she was accepted for training at the United Planets Militia Academy (Legion of Super-Heroes (3rd series) # 52, 57).

Her first appearance was in Legion of Super-Heroes Vol. 4 #51. She later appeared as an Academy Student.

This new Speedster could still be Mara. Maybe Waid will name her that if she ever appears again.

Adn speaking of a generational gap within the Legion itself, am I the first one to comment that the actions of Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl on Rimworld 19, in trying to keep the truth from the kids so they don't panic, is the exact same thing that the elder Naltorians did which other Legion members found so abhorrent?

Wonder if that disparity is something that was intentional on Waid's part?

Thanks LL! I like her already! Mara Williams is obscure enough not to confuse anybody! wink The few people who know her are veterans know it all of Legion fandom. I'm for it.

Portfolio Boy very good example!!! I knock Waid on his silver age fan boy stuff but the guy is an awesome writer...in other words it wouldn't suprise me at all if it was intentional. If you look at the conversation Brin and Imra had following the Bizarro folk tale...we may assume it was intentional.

Well don't be surprised if the blonde speedster turns out to be Jenni Ognats! Remind you of what Waid and Kitson did to Star Boy ! Who knows that Jenni may have undergo some changes?

well the Staturn Girl's actions seemed different in two respects. (1) the remaining Rimworld folks knew that there a dangerous force on the planet. (2) Saturn Girl used her powers to prevent panic to a known situation. she didn't hid the truth of the enemy from them.

however, I agree with you that it is somewhat troubling that instead of a rousing speech she influenced their minds directly.
