Were the 4 people involved in a violent act when they died?

Were the 4 people involved in a violent act when they died? Yes I’ve adjusted the wording of my question to hopefully help. Pre-Crisis Ragman gained his powers from the deaths of 4 people. One was his father. The other 3 are unnamed but each individually given a descriptor/occupation. (A false example would be “one was a criminal”)

Were the 4 trying to rob someone? Perhaps Ragman's predecessor?

Were the 4 trying to rob someone? Perhaps Ragman's predecessor? No, but someone was robbed. I think it might be more helpful to focus on the fact that Ragman gained his powers from this. His powers hold the key to determining the 3 remaining people.

Hmmm.
I recall the 4 refusing to tell a crook about the location of some money. Possibly, the father wanted it as a legacy for ragman. They got electrocuted, and the money was in a mattress.
Ragman absorbed their abilities in addition to his own military background.
He's agile, so I'll say one was an acrobat? He's strong and resilient, so a wrestler? I'll say former athlete/runner for speed?

Ah, I was approaching it from a more modern take of Ragman (the absorbing souls into his rag costume one)! no wonder I was not getting anywhere!

The strength of a boxer? DC liked boxers, from the days of Ted Grant.

The punch of a boxer? The strength of ... um...a weightlifter?

The punch of a boxer? The strength of ... um...a weightlifter? I’ll allow the punch of a boxer. It’s the fighting ability of a heavyweight champion. Not quite on the weightlifter but very close.

Strength of a... circus strongman? Oooh, I was going to put that in after acrobat, thinking there might be a circus background connection. But I changed it. I probably couldn't think of a third. Ragman: with the animal taming ability of a lion tamer!

Strength of a... circus strongman? Ibby’s got it! Pre-Crisis, a group of criminals stashed money from a robbery in an old mattress which was then pawned at Rags ‘n’ Tatters, owned by Rory Regan’s father. One night, Rory’s father and his drinking buddies (world-class acrobat, heavyweight champion boxer, circus strongman) find the cash and hide it for Rory to use. The criminals return looking for the money and shot down power lines to torture the men. Rory arrives and attempts to remove the wires, creating a chain with them as they die and gaining their skills. It’s not until post-Crisis that Ragman gains his power from the Suit of Souls. Also, Rory never knew about the hidden money and it was eventually burned in a fire to warm up a homeless person. Ibby got the last part but Thoth did a lot of heavy lifting. How do you typically decide who gets it?

Ibby gets it. I get to bask in some reflected glory of having helped it along.
Thanks for the Ragman update too. I couldn't recall what happened to the mattress.
