Nothing to do with Robin, but yes it did have to do with toys.

Did some kids destroy some of his beloved toy creations? Not what happened. Did it have to do with real toys? Not exactly real toys, but the type of toy is quite familiar to comic fans. In fact I would not be at all surprised if some Legion board members own some of this type.

Did it have to do with action figures? It did have to do with action figures! For a while in Post-Crisis, Toyman was similar to previous versions in appearance and his ability to create robotic toys yet with an iron-clad ethic of protecting children, but later he became a distinctly unhinged murderer with a shaved head and a penchant for torturing children. Trying to come to terms with her grief over the death of her son whom he had killed, Cat Grant with Superman visited Toyman in prison and asked him why he changed. What was the fandom related event that altered his perspective and behaviour?

Did it have something to do with ToyBiz acquiring Marvel? Nothing to do with that. The real world fan aspect was simply that it revolved around action figures. oh getting closer! ok action figures, um...
was it... did someone create an action figure of Toyman, and he was insulted by the depiction? Getting closer. SOMEONE did create an action figure of Toyman, but HE wasn't insulted by the depiction.

It involves an action figure made of himself. Two things are important - who designed it and the public's response.

Was it designed by Lexcorp? No Did the toy have poor sales? Yes! I think BKL is close enough to award it to him. Toyman was approached (while he was in prison) by a toy manufacturing company for the rights to produce a Toyman action figure and asked for his help in designing it. Toyman was elated and considered it his ultimate toy, being of himself. For months he heard nothing back from the company. Then he was on a work-release program, cleaning in a department store when he spotted the action figures section. He searched for his own figure only to eventually find loads of them in the big discount bin. He was heartbroken and livid that his ultimate toy had failed. He killed his guard and tracked down the toy company rep and angrily demanded an explanation. Terrified the rep explained that the figure just hadn't sold and that kids these days wanted something edgier and darker. Toyman killed the rep, taking the proposed drawing that marketing had created, and decided if that was what the kids wanted then that was what he would become. He went right over the edge, having ongoing conversations with his deceased mother in his mind, shaved his head and adopted a much more sinister appearance. This ended up with him kidnaping kids and when Cat's son helped the other kids escape Toyman killed him. Cat hoped to find some closure from understanding but just found Toyman a pitiful figure. Shortly after Toyman received a present in prison. He excitedly opened the box only to find to his anguish that was full of his unsold rejected figures. Your turn BKL.

whew. what a story that was. Toyman really went off the deep end...
I googled, and I saw it was retconned - that that Toyman was actually a robot double or something, with the "real" Toyman affirming he would never hurt kids

Pre-Crisis Ragman gained his powers from the death of others. Who were they?

When I looked it up myself I see the writer was Geoff Johns. With his tendency to retcon characters back to their bronze age versions, why am I not surprised?

I guess it wouldn’t hurt to be more specific. Pre-Crisis Ragman gained his powers when 4 people died. I really don't know but let's guess - his parents? One was a parent. I’ll let you guess which one. No, but general wording of your answer is on the right track. The 3 others are nameless and only each given a descriptor/occupation.
