Neither Cap or the Thing
Note:This isn't the WCA, but a third group Viz is trying to set up.

This doesn't ring a bell with me at all. And here I thought I knew all things Avengers! Good question, Thoth.
Did Vision try to recruit mutants?
Polaris and Havok?

Photon? New Orleans isn’t exactly “Mid-West” but at least it’s in the Central Time Zone.

Not Cap, Thing, Wanda, Polaris, Havok or Photon.
It is a single character. I think it's one Fickles is fond of.

One that I'm fond of?
Grasping for straws here: Rita, the second Yellowjacket? But she never seemed to me like a Midwesterner.

Not Yellow jacket. I've no idea if this character has Mid-West connections. The character is from a book, Fickles has enjoyed at least some of in the past.

Not the Wasp or Firebird.
This character, to my knowledge, didn't become an Avenger. The character has appeared in the adventures of another Avenger.

Not Rick Jones. Jones has a strong link to the main character our answer is also linked to (narrowing it down to a hundred heroes, Jones has been the side kick of)

Q: Who did the Vision originally try and persuade to form a Mid-West Avengers team?
Hints:- This is not the setting up of the WCA, but a third group. It's a single character. The character may or may not really have ties to the mid west. The character is from a book, Fickles has enjoyed at least some of in the past. A BOOK THAT HAS BEEN IN THE REREADS. This character, to my knowledge, didn't become an Avenger. The character has appeared in the adventures of another Avenger. THE AVENGER IN QUESTION WASN'T ONE FOR LONG. Rick Jones has a connection to the Avenger, whose book the answer most commonly appears in.
Not Cap, Thing, Wanda, Polaris, Havok, Photon, ROM, Human Torch, Bucky, Rick Jones, Wasp, Yellowjacket,

Not Genis-Vell. The answer happened in the 1980s.

Not Thunderbolt Ross. The character is super powered, and this was well before Ross getting powers. This is the closest yet, along with Rick Jones.

Not Bruce Banner. Bruce was the Avenger in question though.
Making the answer one of his supporting cast.
Which stile has got right with Doc Samson!
A conflicted Vision was wrestling over whether to enact his plan to take over the world's computers. Samson was offered the role of heading up a third team of Avengers. As Samson was getting a tour round Avengers mansion, Starfox asked them about anti-mutant hysteria.
Samson turned the offer down, having just taken up a university post.
Following that, the Vision and Wanda's house was burned down. That made up his mind. He diverted the teams and began his plan.
A strong Avengers arc, which has Vision question and doubt his motivations and plans throughout, making each step stronger as a result. Fickles' fave Dane Whitman chooses an unfortunate time to arrive, and is trapped by the Vision in the mansion.
That third team never appeared, after the end of Vision's plans. It wouldn't come back into play until John Byrne introduced The Great Lakes Avengers, just after his follow up to the Vision's takeover story.
Over to you Stile!

I remember the Vision's attempt to solve the world's problems by taking over all the computer systems, but I didn't remember the Mid-West team possibility at all. Your previous answers centred on a Hulk character so I thought Doc Samson was the most likely. Now I want to go back and reread those issues. Great question.
Captain America maintains his stoic attitude throughout the attack on the Avengers and the takeover of the mansion by the Masters of Evil, but in the aftermath what makes him break down in tears?
