I'd never heard of this before! Rolling just seemed to fit. Amazing fun tradition.
Reminds me a little of something our local scouts group does every Summer, ice-blocking. The scouts make their own big ice blocks (lunch box size or bigger), then sit on them (on a towel) and slide down a steep grassy hill. No race but a lot of fun.
