The name this character uses was also used by another character, but my character was chronologically the original, and the other, though his or her appearances were published first, was revealed (once my character appeared) to have been derived from my character.

Sorry CMK. That era of the JSA is a weak point in my knowledge so I was hoping someone else would come up with something.

I'll throw out one more hint: This character at first appeared to be benevolent and the JSA was split over whether or not to cooperate with him, until it became apparent that his continued presence would ultimately lead to the destruction of Earth.
