Aquaman had a pet octopus for a while, didn't he? Is it him (or her)? Would I be cheating if I looked up the name? I'll just give it to you. It's Aquaman's octopus buddy Topo. In more recent versions, he's been portrayed as underwater denizen with a squid-face and apparently most recently as some sort of giant sea monster that Aquaman can call upon in emergencies. I'm not entirely sure if those versions are vertebrates or not.
