Welcome to......

Kill This Thread XXXVIII

The following rules were established by Kent Shakespeare at the start of the first 24-hour version, adapted from the original rules by EDE:

The rules:

1. The Basic Idea: Post to this thread, if no one posts after you for 24 hours, you win!

2. Posts that are not direct responses to one of the five preceding posts are ineligible to win. The topic can drift, but no complete non-sequitors. Posts that are responses to non-sequitors are also ineligible to win. Posts that are responses to responses to non-sequitors, and response nses to those posts, etc., become eligible, however.

3. In the event that this thread is locked, there shall be no winner unless a new thread is started for the contest. Furthermore, any post that results in the banning of the poster shall also be ineligible to win.

4. So, more precisely, one wins if one makes a post, and then no one makes another post that's eligible to win for 24 hours.

I polished off the last of the black cherries at the same time.

To get through a 10+ hour workday you have to have those good-quality snacks. And plenty of water. I didn't even sit down to dinner last night until 10 PM.

The office is super-lacking in support staff right now. So I got roped into staying late two days of each of the last two weeks to work on spreadsheets and such. They were nice about it, but it really takes a lot out of you.

I can relate, Cleome. At my job, we've spent the last several weeks being "between managers" and our hours have been insanely long. Thankfully, our new manager will finally be a full-timer in a week and a half from now, and I'll have fewer hours but greater sanity.

Thanks, Cleome.

I'm optimistic. The new manager and I have definitely gotten off to a good start. He's actually the one I mentioned recently in one of my Transformers threads, the one I made a best-episodes list for. OptimusPrime

OMG yes - we have consistently been having headcount issues where I work, and its only lately getting resolved. The problem is that I feel like I have to train all these people (which isn't my job) so I also feel like I'm doing other peoples' work most of the time. I've been able to unplug this week, which has been nice, but I'm dreading going back in on Monday.

Me too, but since we have, theoretically, the right roles filled now, I've told my boss directly that I won't be doing other folks' jobs.

Of course that puts it on me to make sure I enable them to do so! laugh

I keep thinking about looking for a different job, but it's all so complicated. The upkeep... sigh I haven't even tried to get a haircut since January of 2020. By now it's probably 75% split ends!

Split Enz was a band from New Zealand led by brothers Tim and Neil Finn. They're best remembered for I Got You. Later, Neil led Crowded House, who are best remembered for Don't Dream It's Over. Neil currently sings the male vocals in Fleetwood Mac. Nice work if you can get it.

I had a flatmate who was very keen on Split Enz. They were weren't my thing at first but he won me over. Some of their lyrics were extremely deep and clever, even haunting. "I Got You" was good but also "Six Months in a Leaky Boat", "Shark Attack", "That was my Mistake", and the mournful I Hope I Never". I remember when we were driving somewhere and first heard a song that reminded us of Split Enz and that was how we discovered Crowded House which made some good songs and was much more popular but less experimental. I hadn't known the bit about Neil and Fleetwood Mac.

Shark Attack is a very fun song. I agree with you, Stile, about how Crowded House were much more pop than Split Enz, but Don't Dream It's Over transcends categories IMO. I have relatives who saw Neil with The Mac and said they were very good. BTW, the current lead guitarist is Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers.

Fanfie... you have to Google it at your own risk tongue It's a Korean song from what I understand. I only know it because I saw a couple of memes about it...

It's in the same category as that awful "What Does the Fox Say" song
