I thought what bound us together were the staples in the middle pages of our Legion issues. No way they are going near a bonfire, virtual or otherwise!

I was rereading the first Legion comic I got the other day. Despite it'sts lighter tone, it's actually a follow up to the fireballing incident that caught Rokk's family.

It would call have led to him forming a team with a mix of heroes from the likes of the Outsiders in the 20th century, as part of the series plans that were replaced by Legends.

Ah so that's why Cos showed up briefly in Legends, with Lydda!

Yeah, there was originally more going to happen with it.

I remember enjoying the Outsiders comics despite my lack of interest in Batman. Though by the time he actually left the team I think I'd given up on superhero comics. D'oh!!

I wasn't keen on Aparo's art at the time, but Alan Davis is always a treat. Geo Force had the personality of a plank. And I thought it odd that Bats and no issues with Katana chopping folk down with her...well Katana. Maybe it's just guns he had issues with.

The Samurai X manga and anime got around that sword problem. The main character doesn’t kill, but he used a “reverse-edged” sword with a blade that allows him to whack people without cutting them open.

Aparo's art was streamlined and loose at a time where everyone cool was rendering their brains out in each and every panel. That's probably why I found it so refreshing.

Yeah, just one of a number of distinct styles it took me longer to appreciate.

Yeah, just one of a number of distinct styles it took me longer to appreciate. I think it's also worth noting that, only a decade earlier, Aparo's art had been a lot more detailed, using a technique similar to stippling. By the early-mid 80s, he had matured artistically to the point where he achieved a remarkable economy and purity of line.
Still "Fickles" to my friends.

I preferred Mignola's early Hellboy art. But he sought more economy with his work. If he could have conveyed the perfect poise and emotion with a stick figure then he'd have done that. It took looking at the art, rather than reading it, for some pennies to drop for me.

There were a few other artists bucking the tide like Aparo did back then. Mark Wheatley in the *Mars* comic, for instance: https://www.markwheatleygallery.com/marsIt was an ambitious book that might well have caught on better with more marketing and a more traditional sci-fi look. I don't think I read it to the end, but I can recall its look to this day. Not much stuff from 40 years ago that I can say that about.

Maybe you were conceived 7856 years ago, and then time travel happened so you were born last century...

Conceived? Oh, you mean when my master began to sketch out the plans for the cloning vats.

And then there's always the retcon option.

I don't know what to retcon first: my terrible eyesight or my terrible flat feet.
