DC's solicits for April are out, and there's no listing for Justice League v. Legion of Super-Heroes #4.

Of course DC is killing off the Justice League in April so I guess there's no one for the Legion to "v." against.

Disappointing. I was finally looking forward to comics again.

THIS is the thread I should have posted in! LOL

Anyway, in the latest Legion of Substitute Podcasters episode, they actually sit down and talk with Bendis for well over an hour and this is brought up.

Basically, he didn't want to bring in a fill-in artist so the extra month was to keep Scott for the entire run.

There are other items in the discussion as well, but folks should listen for themselves.

And after all this time, DC probably never wonders why the momentum (such as it is) from books dwindles away.

Instead, they do sequels to ten-year-old event storylines that no one liked in the first place.

You'd think with a miniseries they could give the artist enough lead time to avoid delays.

Another thing that he did say as part of the discussion was that when reading the Legion back in the day, he didn't enjoy fill-in artists, as it didn't feel as contiguous a story to him, so he pushed for this aspect of the book. I don't know if that is what he meant many moons ago when he said that he was going to do the Legion "right."

I'd encourage folks to listen to the episode as there are some interesting elements to it (although it goes too long IMO).

I can appreciate the priority on having a consistent artist through a series, especially when the series will later be marketed as a single work. That's the long view. In the short view, I get impatient waiting that much longer for an installment.

if a series (ongoing or mini) is delayed too long, it kills the anticipation and enjoyment. look at Afterlife with Archie...

I mean, I think for an announced limited series, it makes sense to have the continuity of one artist for the entirety.

For an ongoing, though, I'm ok with the occasional sub artist, as you would have to do that to keep the monthly cadence going.

If it's illness or something unforseen, there's a decision to be made whether to continue, or wait.
If not, just give the atist enough of a lead time to get it done.
If the lead time required is ridiculously long, then maybe it's time to have another artist for the project.
There was nothing in the first issue, where I stopped in awe at either the plot or the art.
Maybe not having to have the entire Legion follow each other around every panel, would help save some time.
That might be tough on Bendis though, who would be forced to have a single character have a whole sentence to themselves.

But then they might be forced to develop a personality!

If Nighty allowed me a dozen Alt+IDs, I could have them recreate a Bendis sentence. smile

It would be like the kill this thread thread, and would only end if someone completes a full sentence.
