Before I wrap up the newsletter I just wanted to celebrate Scott Godlewski. We just put the first issue of JUSTICE LEAGUE VERSUS LEGION OF SUPERHEROES to bed and he made his best comic so far. It's beautifully designed and the character acting is exceptional.

Legion is a very hard illustration assignment and adding Justice League to it does NOT make it easier. I know Legion fans have been waiting very patiently and I'm happy to report that the book is gorgeous and worth your preorder: THE GOLD LANTERN SAGA!

You're about to experience a very rare thing in my newsletter, some actual news.

Here we go...

First of all, as some of you saw the DC solicitations for March are out and JUSTICE LEAGUE 74 will be my last issue on the main series.

But, we're going to wrap up our run in high style.

First off, we have the JUSTICE LEAGUE ANNUAL fully illustrated by Eisner award-winning Bitter Root co-creator Sanford Greene. This gorgeous annual brings Wonder Woman back to the Justice League and starts a cosmic disturbance that will send the DC universe in chaos and bring us some OMAC!

There are lots of surprises in this double size spectacular. All of this ties very significantly into the JUSTICE LEAGUE/LEGION OF SUPERHEROES CROSSOVER: THE GOLD LANTERN SAGA that I've been talking about for the last few months.

The annual bumped a few weeks in the schedule which officially changes its name from JUSTICE LEAGUE ANNUAL 2021 to, hold on to something, JUSTICE LEAGUE ANNUAL 2022.

For those keeping score, this is not an issue with the creatives or pandemic. There have been some DC editorial shifts. We are good to go.

After that, for our wrap up, from Justice league 72 to 74 you?re getting a different kind of Justice League book. For the last couple of years there's been a main Justice League story with a Justice League Dark back up by another team. Instead, in 72 to 74, you're getting THREE DOUBLE SIZED ISSUES IN A ROW that compile a giant JUSTICE LEAGUE/JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK CROSSOVER EVENT illustrated by the really talented Emanuela Lupacchino and Szymon Kudranski.

All authored by myself as my last statement on the book. Buuuuut not my last statement with Justice League as I will continue to be working on JUSTICE LEAGUE/ LEGION OF SUPERHEROES and NAOMI.

(Just like when I left Superman well over a year ago yet I'm still, as of yesterday, writing Superman, I?m leaving Justice league but I'm still writing Justice league so...)

Thank you all for supporting the book. I got to make some comics with some really cool people. I get to say I wrote Avengers and Justice League (and Legion and X-men) and that's pretty cool.

So, miracle of miracles, HBO then asked what else I would want to do and if there's any DC properties I thought would make an interesting show.

I may have yelled the word LEGION louder than you want to in a normal adult person business meeting.

So yeah, the headline today is...

HBO Max has put me to work on a LEGION OF SUPERHEROES TV SHOW.

At the moment it is being developed as an adult animated show. Can you tell I am jumping up and down about this? I've been working on it for a while and last week I was sent to the next phase.

"Hey, bald dude! Didn't you just last newsletter tell us that you were anti-bragging? That you had somehow matured out of bragging? How is this not bragging?"

That's an excellent question, voice in my head. but I'm a die hard Legion fan[u/]! I know Legion news can be... infrequent. So many diehard Legion fans follow me so I asked special permission to update all of you on this project in development.

Facts: its very early goings but I can tell you This will be an adaptation of the [u]Legion of superheroes that Ryan Sook and I have been working on the last few years.

And just like that series, on sale now, it will harken back to so many classics while at the same time doing what Legion does: pushing all the ideas of superheroes forward in every direction.

I think Legion of superheroes is among the greatest franchises in the history of comics and I?m as honored to be curating them as I was Spider-man.

So yes, Naomi, the show I helped create, is being made my others and I'M making Legion of Superhero show. Hollywood!

So for those who don't know, animation takes a loooong time so you may not hear anything about this for a while as I'm just getting to work on it over the break.

But, in the meantime, you can read the comic book version of these amazing characters both in our most recent series and in some of the greatest comics ever made.

Then feel free to preorder Justice league/Legion of superheroes. I'm obviously hoping that this news inspires some of you to try this beautiful Scott Godlewski book out.

This is yet another move I'm making that's different from the way I've done things in the past. I'll be getting into those next 'moves' over the next few newsletters. For those who have asked, it does include some significant content in this very space. So make sure you tell anyone you know who's into our stuff to subscribe.

Justice League Annual!

EXCLUSIVE! A few days ago I announced the Legion of superheroes animated show and I wanted to say thank you to everyone who spread the word and signed up. We have had a huuuuge amount of sign-ups this week.

Because of that, and 'tis the season, I'm going to do a surprise sneak preview world exclusive art drop of the other thing I talked about a couple of days ago: THE JUSTICE LEAGUE ANNUAL that I've been working on all year with Eisner award-winning Bitter Root removed co-creator Sanford Greene.

The annual got pushed to February making it officially next year's annual. Sanford's work means a lot to me so having this be one of my last issues of Justice league is really special. There's a lot here that I'm not going to explain with spoilers but, MAN! these pages...

LEGION TV Q and A

As I said last newsletter this is very early goings for the LEGION OF SUPERHERO TV show so there's really not much more I can confidently say but after the announcement some of you asked some good questions and asked for some clarification...

WHAT IS ADULT ANIMATION?

I used the phrase 'adult animation' to describe this show. Some of you definitely have different interpretations of what adult animation means . Some incorrectly labeled this as potential hard-core pornography. NO. This is a Warner Bros. animation production. Adult means adult THEMES. Obviously, there are hundreds of examples of mature themed animated projects from all over the world.

In the superhero spaces, there are different levels of sophistication meant for different audiences. There are even previous animated Legion shows that skewed young and some people hearing this announcement immediately referenced that. I was just letting you know that this is potentially something else.

I also know that development is a really interesting organic process and having been developing Legion ideas myself for the last four years I know that ANYTHING could happen. It's part of my job to stay open-minded to any possibility for a great Legion of Superheroes experience for everyone who wants one.

WHAT STYLE OF ANIMATION?

Great question. I have no great answer. yet. I can tell you, the pandemic has allowed a lot of people in the animation spaces all over the world, both independent and multimedia corporate, to explore.

You've already seen some of this pop up in all kinds of special projects.

I think we're about to see a golden age of animation something akin to the birth of Pixar.

Or not :-)

But Legion's core concepts are so well suited to take full advantage of all these new techniques and technologies that have been developing last couple of years.
