With all the wits around here, it ought to be possible to get a *PLOP!* -style Legion parody out there before the real one appears. I know we don't have the ultimate artist (MLLASH) around anymore. But there must be someone else who can do some knockout visuals for such a worthy project.

The Gold Lantern-Fembrain team-up would show those pros a thing or two about how to create real legends on paper!

I'm already more hyped for this parody which will probably never exist than I am for this Gold Lantern Saga that may or may not ever exist!

We also follow Legion Fanboy, who goes on a quest for immortality to ensure he's still alive when the finale of the Gold Lantern Saga is finally revealed!
Wait until you see what he does next - it's incredible!

Lester Spiffany appears to jack up cover prices and cut page numbers again. But thankfully he's run out of the DC-Warner boardroom by a mob of irritated stockholders. (And he has his hefty severance package revoked, too.)

That Legion story would be a) uncannily true to life and b) more interesting than the Bendis Legion

And Lester gets brought to court by space-lawyer... um darn who is a lawyer in the Legion. Maybe Tenzil drags him to court.

I could probably persuade mr_cleome to create an LW account in return for a generous retainer. "Retainer" in this scenario of course means, "Beer." #BuyGoldLanternBeer

Did we ever find out what 'Gold' Lantern's 'thing' was? Green - willpower, Red - rage, Yellow - fear, Gold - ???
Of course he'll be outshone by the Rainbow Lantern, powered by the power of fabulosity, but who wouldn't be?

Apparently Gold Lantern's thing was "anything required by the plot". He could teleport, he could transmute...
Maybe modify to "anything required by the plot, and spectacular enough to overshadow Legionnaires whom Bendis does not particularly care for". Why would we need Element Lad, if Gold Lantern can transmute and more? Why would we ever consider bringing Gates or Veilmist in...

Deus Ex Machina Lad. Or wait, that might be Dr. Fate Lad. Or Lass. Oh I give up... A group shot of the guys, with their prototype flying suit, before they started to miniaturise it into a ring...

Why would we ever consider bringing Gates or Veilmist in... You know I've been thinking about this subject; more broadly, the question of why don't we see versions of other characters from the reboot or other eras in the retro or Bendis versions. I know that DC has a policy of creators getting a cut if an original character gets popular. I wonder if the reason that we don't see and XS, Kinetix or Gates because Bendis would rather foist X-Ray Girl on us versus using a Mark Waid/Tom Peyer creation. Hell, even Levitz ignored most of these characters during his retro verse. XS and Gates came along for the ride due to Lo3W, but XS was sidelined, and Gates got shuffled back to the 20th at the first opportunity. Kinetix and XS were popular characters. The could have had a Kinetix in the Academy, but we were given Dragonwing.

Whatever the cut in question would be, I have the nagging suspicion that the company would still be left with plenty of money.

There seems to be this idea that the *essential* Legionnaires are basically the Adventure Era team, plus maybe Wildfire. So anyone created after that tends to be ignored in subsequent incarnations. So instead each new team creates there own batch of new Legionnaires, which then disappears in the next iteration.
Bendis at least deserves props for incorporating Computo in his otherwise entirely pre-Baxter (plus his new characters) lineup.

It seems typically short-sighted for them to think only about how much they'd have to pay out for including more than one era of characters. As opposed to considering that they might bring in more readers and sell more books by doing that.
By the way, do you mean Danielle as Computo? I wonder if she'd be considered a completely new character from a legal standpoint since she was given the name of a previously existing character.

As a Reboot fan, I do tend to think of the Reboot lineup as essential - so in my fic for example, I kept them and added new ones. So I get why fans and creators would tend to think that... if they were continuing from a certain point. but with reboots, well, everything goes out the window. the camaraderie and history between the characters starts anew, because the team is different... I suppose some additional props are in order, because eventually Invisible Kid turned out to be Jacques, not Lyle.

I totally understand that creators have their favorites and want to have "impact" on the book (whatever the hell that means), but they are caretakers of a property and IMO need to be cognizant of that, at least for continuity and readership's sake. Even the "soft" reboots have this problem (I'd categorize DnA and McAvennie as a soft reboot of the reboot given the significant tone change).

Yeah... though I also think when reboots come into play, the continuity is reset so some things can be changed. Like having a different starting lineup for example.

The could have had a Kinetix in the Academy, but we were given Dragonwing. My feeling was that Bendis launched with the "essential Legionnaires" as to do otherwise would be draw fan lightning like having a tin foil hat party on Korbal. But the Less Great than the Great Darkness Saga was on the way, and it was hinted there would be casualties. That might open up the team to ne members from later incarnations of the team. Eventually all the boots would be represented.
I recall Helena Wayne getting killed in Crisis so that Levitz and Staton could bring in a less Batman Family centred Helena Bertinelli as a new character, for royalty purposes.
